Does everyone realize that his current deal runs out in 2019? If we don't give him an extension we might as well stop recruiting. Coaches always need at least 4 years on their contract to sell to recruits that they will be their coach for the next 4 years.

@gossie21 is right about recruiting. Other programs use it against you if you don't have 4 yrs left on your contract.

I don't have a problem with a 1 yr extension. But, I do have a problem with a large buyout. TV contracts have created a bucket load of $ for schools and agents know this.

Stoops knows the importance for recruiting of having that extra yr on his contract. Hope he agrees to a 1 yr extension without demanding the same buyout as last contract. Two bowls in a roll and he deserves a larger buyout. The more lucrative the bowl, the more lucrative the contract.

Two more years extended now. If you don't think there will be offers this year, you don't know football.

Any big time school that offers CMS today, whose only win against a team with a winning record was 6-5 EKU, has an AD that doesn't know football.

If he wins 3 of the last 4 and we go to a nice bowl the discussion has more merit.

But today? Some of you guys are off your rocker.

Think about this:

Dan Mullen took Mississippi State to #1 and they extended his contract last year to 2018...

The Vandy and USC wins are starting to look better.

I am not overly concerned about Stoops being hired away. One, for the reason you stated. He's not going to make a lateral move and the bigger programs can get someone with stronger credentials. Most importantly though, nothing in the current contract protects us from him leaving. He has no buyout on his end. He can leave whenever he wants to.

I've seen very good arguments made for both sides in this thread. I said no earlier, but I would have to say that adding a year to the existing contract makes the most sense to me. If we win 6-7 games per year counting this year and the next couple then add a year. If he reaches 8-9 then add 2. 10 plus wins should be a 4 year deal.

Only at UK is there talk of a contract extension with the team sitting on just 5 wins. Haven't we been here before?!

Is Leon the Camel a secret UKAD account getting the feelers out for how well another insane extension and buyout would sit with the fan base?

Hey now. Do not blow my cover. We are in talks of a 29 year extension, with a 1 million dollar buyout per year remaining.

Just gauging fans perception. Gotta go, Eli just called.

Those that think Stoops should get another extension now will be the same ones calling for his head if we get blown out by UL and UT.

Please, no.. His current contract runs through June of 2020 and he's the 26th highest paid coach. Even if this team won out (including a bowl), that's just one successful year out of four. Nobody is going to come looking until he has more than one successful year. Remember, he's only had one win against an FBS opponent that ended up with a winning record.
One successful year? We where 45 points worse than the 2nd worse team in conference when he took over and he had us atleast winning 5 games his 2nd and 3rd year. I really wish our fanbase was more knowledgable when it comes to how bad off this team was when Stoops took over. Its a miracle what hes done in recruiting. Look at ga they have top ten classes and there striggling to gain footing.

I wish some in our fan base would understand that a losing record is just that - a LOSING record. I didn't say he hasn't improved the team. Any idiot can see that we're better off now than we were with Joker. What I said is that he has not been successful; that is, he has not produced a winning record. Until then, no school in their right mind is going to come around and try to lure MS away.
