Courtney Love is one of the worst UK MLBs I've ever seen at UK

He can't shed a block to save his life. He far too often shows horrible technique, and looks lost and confused out there. Why not play Kash? Could he be any worse? After 3 games Love looks horrific. So much for all the hype he got this offseason, appears none of it about him was true.

And/or Firios. Why not Lester? Remember him? He's the guy the staff said last year was "unblockable." I guess opponents figured out how to block him in the off-season.

And just to think that our defensive guru of a head coach praised him almost non-stop during the offseason, even going as far as sending him to represent our team at media days. That alone should give us a pretty good idea of how good he is at evaluating his players

I'm sure I'm in the minority but here's what I see with CL: good athletic ability; when he's at the right spot, a pretty sure tackler. The biggest problem I see (and I'm no expert) is that he's absolutely horrible at reading a play. Time after time, he runs himself out of the play, takes a horrendous angle or otherwise isn't involved in a play that is run right at him. Doesn't shed blocks extremely well but, sometimes, I think it's because he's in the wrong place and the OL only has to get in his way to keep him out of the play.

Jordan Jones has, on occasion, also overrun plays, misread the QB, etc. But, he seems to read the play correctly often enough that he gets in on a number of tackles. Love seems to misread about half the plays and is just not a factor. Either coach him up to read/react quicker and with more accuracy or try someone else in the middle who maybe doesn't have the physical ability but will be in the correct spot more often.

Here are the stats:
-18 tackles thru 3 games (6 per game average)
- 4th on team in tackles (behind both of our starting safeties)
- 0 Tackles for loss
- 0 Sacks
- 0 Interceptions
- 0 Pass breakups

And in each of Stoops past 3 years our MLB led teams in tackles (Avery Williamson and Josh Forrest the past 2 years).

Love is way slower in open space that any LBer we've had at UK in Stoops era (so a less talented player is what I see). And I agree, his reactions slower than a turtle crossing the street. He's never subbed out, so he's essentially playing the entire games and making zero impact out there all the while teams hammer the run game at us.

Outside of Matt Elam and Kobie Walker no player is peforming as badly. Mike Edwards has been brutal as well but at least he can run down a player for a good tackle when he understands where he's supposed to be (and he is just a sophmore). Love is a 4th year Jr for pete sake. It's past time to see Frios or Kash out there.

A little early to say he is the worst of all time. He had not played in over a year and has a lot of pressure if he is also making defensive calls.

DJE told the entire defensive unit before the season that if he had 11 guys like Love he would never lose a game... WOW! Nothing else needs to be said what our problems are.

Guys, when you get transfers from lower tier to mid level Big 10 teams that are not starters, you are probably not getting Braxton Miller or Jabrill Peppers. UL is getting pure studs that got in a lot of trouble at their former schools. There is a difference. Just saying . . .

I have a really hard time judging what I see from any of our defensive guys this year. I think it's less about ability than scheme and effort. There are countless plays where it looks like guys just aren't locked in or don't care.

He was getting washed out by USM and NMSU's o lines. I'll give him Florida as hes not the first to look bad against them, but theres no excuse to play so poorly against C USA teams.

That says a lot about his pulse of the game.

To counter - it doesn't help the MLB when the NG is getting pushed back in his face.
I agree that he doesn't move well enough to be a solid SEC LB, but it is yet another reason why:
a) Elam cannot be on the field
b) We need to use more even fronts
Opponents are power running us to death - they pull a backside lineman and run to the tackle. Our middle LB's are not only having to read the play, but then having to contend with our DL getting knocked back into their space, and since our DL cannot command double teams, the LB's are getting reached by 2nd level blocks.
It's a recipe for giving up TONS of rushing yds.
That being said - I would love to see what Kash or Nico could do - Kash looks bigger; maybe he could shed the blocks better and make some plays

He and Edwards have turned out to be huge flops so far.

It seems as if Edwards is struggling a bit with the switch to FS. He played SS last year and was very instinctual. He sometimes gets stuck in the SS mode and looks to get involved too much into the backfield. Teams are running a guy across his face to get him to bite and then run an opposite side receiver behind him. The safeties have to work in tandem. I heard the announcer mention that on the 1st NMSU TD Saturday. That being said I think he played his best game this year. He recorded 12 tackles, 1TFL and 3 Pass Breakups. He is clearly our best open field tackler, along with Jordan Jones.
