Did Elam even play?

that is funny. Elliott said earlier in the week that this upcoming game against Alabama will be the game that Elam shines. that he matches up very well against the Alabama offensive lin.

Middleton has always been better than him. Not sure why it took coaches this long to see the obvious.

Elam's worth to the defense isn't measured in tackles. That being said, Elam has not been much help to the team, tackles or not.

I am not going to slam the kid his struggles have been well documented, but this is one question I have for the coaches...

In what football league across the galaxy do you line your nose guard up 3 yards away from the ball?

Of course he stands straight up, what is he going to do crawl to the line of scrimmage?

Honestly...all of our DL are a decent bit better than Elam. Pringle, Dubose, Middleton, etc..they penetrate more, can move laterally better. And none of them are nothing to write home about yet...but Elam has just been as massive a disappointment as you can be.

He literally stood up with an Alabama C...went back a yard, tried to get around him and literally was the furthest DL away from making the play on a simple counter. Even the backside DE was closer to the ball. It's just stupid to watch.

I hate to be hard on the kid but that is his stat line almost every game - he does very little , has never ever did anything - maybe the biggest bust ever

I will always respect that kid because he came to UK to help turn this program around. He had several very good options.

That said, he simply has not played to the level UK desperately needs him to play at. At this point, time is starting run out and he is not showing any real signs that he has what it takes to get it done.

Despite being listed as the starter Elam has played maybe 20% of the time since the opener. Pringle especially and Dubose are getting most of the PT now. Even saw Hyde in for a series or two also. He did get dinged but I saw him miss a tackle midway thru the 1st Quarter then be subbed out and don't think he played again.

Elam is horrible. Biggest flop I can remember
He's right up there with Bobby blizzard, John Logan, Ryan mossokowski who never did anything at U.K. At least Elam never got hurt but when played he was just awful

Conditioning regimen maybe? Just kidding. I don't get it either.

I feel bad for Elam...

He's not good and that's a fact, but if I were him, I'd feel horrible.

Every single one of these kids is just trying to build a foundation for the rest of their lives and I wish every one of them the very best!!

I want the coaches to get more talented players and coach them up, but every one of the kids on the current roster is a human being.

Don't forget that.

Allowing the kid to play his freshman year was a huge coaching mistake. Even if it was promised it was easy to see that he was too heavy and out of shape to be out there. He needed the truth more then pats on the back because without breaking his bad eating habits and not making him be in the weight room 24/7 has probably taken away any dream that he had for the next level. He does look better but this should have been where he was at after a red shirt year not his junior year.

he did have better options as far as other schools go. But one thing that would have happened at other schools as he would have been forced to transfer out. If he had gone to Alabama Saban would not tolerate him not being able to live up to expectations. He would be out the door going to a junior college or to Georgia State.
he did the best thing by coming here because he will not be forced out unless he wants to play somewhere and dominate at a lower level, and that itself would be a big if. And he will always be landing a good job after his college career is over with

I really doubt a red shirt would have helped him. He has been here 3 years and he has progressed very little three years is longer than a year when you red shirt.
he can still red shirt. 247 had him ranked as a 5-star and Rivals had him ranked as a 5.6 3 star the same as Jacob hyde.

Blue come on. It was his freshman year that as a coach you express upon a kid on what he has to do to be successful not your junior year. He should have been grilled so much on his bad habits that rumors of him wanting to leave would have been mentioned daily. Size was his potential but not making him realize how to make it work for him through weigh loss and strength conditioning made him the player he is today.

You may be right...but Elam did lose 30 pounds last year...if he could have 2 more years to get down another 20 pounds he'd likely be more effective. But by not RSing him in year 1 and it appears he didn't dedicate himself in year 2...now in year 3 he still needs some significant body make over to play in SEC. Another year wouldn't have hurt that.

He's had 3 years to learn not to stand straight up on the snap of the ball. Doubt a redshirt year would have helped.

All the more reason to get rid of Elliott. He doesn't even know his own personnel. The next time Elam shines will be the first time

Elam is a nice guy.

In contrast Dewayne Robertson could be nice when he really tried...

Not many Reggie Whites out there that excel without a mean streak...

I don't think his weight is the problem, he has no motor even when he's fresh and horrific technique. He's just a really big dude, he's not a football player.

Despite the positive spin, he is still far too heavy. He still has not been coached to instinctively avoid standing up. He needs to lose 30 lbs minimum. There is only so much a coach can do. Ultimately, it falls on the player. He would have way more of a motor if some of the fat and fluid left his frame.

Exactly...he could play harder but at that much weight...he is carrying a ton of gut and that makes it hard for him to explode

He's a barrel on 2x4's. I think he should line up parallel to the LOS, lie down and have Love roll him at the center. At least he could get low and the other team would have to go around or step over him. Imagine the fear factor of a 400 lb barrel rolling at you.

Elam would be much better as an offensive lineman. He is to slow for a DL.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!
