Giant bust
Honestly...all of our DL are a decent bit better than Elam. Pringle, Dubose, Middleton, etc..they penetrate more, can move laterally better. And none of them are nothing to write home about yet...but Elam has just been as massive a disappointment as you can be.Middleton has always been better than him. Not sure why it took coaches this long to see the obvious.
Shows you how clueless he is at the DC. Don't get why he is even employed at the point with Stoops taking over his playcalling dutiesthat is funny. Elliott said earlier in the week that this upcoming game against Alabama will be the game that Elam shines. that he matches up very well against the Alabama offensive lin.
He's right up there with Bobby blizzard, John Logan, Ryan mossokowski who never did anything at U.K. At least Elam never got hurt but when played he was just awfulElam is horrible. Biggest flop I can remember

Conditioning regimen maybe? Just kidding. I don't get it either.I am not going to slam the kid his struggles have been well documented, but this is one question I have for the coaches...
In what football league across the galaxy do you line your nose guard up 3 yards away from the ball?
Of course he stands straight up, what is he going to do crawl to the line of scrimmage?
This....he twisted his ankle on the first series. Not sure how much he played after that.Got hurt
I will always respect that kid because he came to UK to help turn this program around. He had several very good options.
That said, he simply has not played to the level UK desperately needs him to play at. At this point, time is starting run out and he is not showing any real signs that he has what it takes to get it done.
Allowing the kid to play his freshman year was a huge coaching mistake. Even if it was promised it was easy to see that he was too heavy and out of shape to be out there. He needed the truth more then pats on the back because without breaking his bad eating habits and not making him be in the weight room 24/7 has probably taken away any dream that he had for the next level. He does look better but this should have been where he was at after a red shirt year not his junior year.
I really doubt a red shirt would have helped him. He has been here 3 years and he has progressed very little three years is longer than a year when you red shirt.
he can still red shirt. 247 had him ranked as a 5-star and Rivals had him ranked as a 5.6 3 star the same as Jacob hyde.
You may be right...but Elam did lose 30 pounds last year...if he could have 2 more years to get down another 20 pounds he'd likely be more effective. But by not RSing him in year 1 and it appears he didn't dedicate himself in year 2...now in year 3 he still needs some significant body make over to play in SEC. Another year wouldn't have hurt that.I really doubt a red shirt would have helped him. He has been here 3 years and he has progressed very little three years is longer than a year when you red shirt.

I don't think his weight is the problem, he has no motor even when he's fresh and horrific technique. He's just a really big dude, he's not a football player. You may be right...but Elam did lose 30 pounds last year...if he could have 2 more years to get down another 20 pounds he'd likely be more effective. Exactly...he could play harder but at that much weight...he is carrying a ton of gut and that makes it hard for him to explodeDespite the positive spin, he is still far too heavy. He still has not been coached to instinctively avoid standing up. He needs to lose 30 lbs minimum. There is only so much a coach can do. Ultimately, it falls on the player. He would have way more of a motor if some of the fat and fluid left his frame.
