Does Eddie Gran deserve a pay raise??

Eddie Gran has 27 years of coaching experience under his belt. He's been successful at Cincinnati as an OC and is succeeding at UK with a 5-3 record. Under his guidance, UK has went so called air raid system to a smash mouth football team. So far Coach Gran has evaluated what he has on the team and game plans toward the teams strength. Since his arrival we have seen the offensive line flourish. I give some credit to the OL coach but I do believe Gran has had a hand in turning around that group.

Before Gran came to Kentucky his name was mentioned in a few article as being one of the next coordinators to be offered a HC position. Since the change from Dawson to Gran, we have seen a different UK football team. They are winning the games they are suppose to win and not giving up. His leadership is providing motivation and a determination to win and close out games. Last year we saw a team that would get the lead (ie. against UL) and end up losing the game. We aren't seeing that since the 1st game of the year.

Well....no. not yet. We have to quit pay raising all the time on the short term. If E. Gran gets a head coaching opportunity, more power to him.another full year of growth and improvement like this, and perhaps it can be considered.

Let's just wait a bit this time.

maybe a guaranteed contact for five years as the second highest paid OC in all of college football, or at least the minimum of the highest buyout clause...just sayin'.
what he has done in these few games is nothing short of a miracle...back up that money truck...beep, beep, beep

Probably has bonus/incentives written in his contracts that would pay him but not change his base salary.

Agree with this...These guys are paid nicely to coach and recruit. This is what has gotten us into large buyouts by giving guys raises and extensions when they have one year or two doing what they signed on for. No way anyone gets a raise this soon on this staff. They are all well paid.

Gran isn't going to leave UK because he can get more money somewhere else. UK will pay him whatever the market dictates. If he leaves it will because he receives an offer from someplace that has something that UK cannot offer him and it's what he wants.
Gran is making $650K + has incentives that can allow him to make another $200K. By contrast he was earning $370K at Cincy. He is also being paid more than Elliot ($575K).

Absolutely not! Coaches are way overpaid. Take a look at what teachers are paid. We've got the tail wagging the dog as far as education is concerned.

I think Gran is one of the pieces that have come together along with several other things that have helped UK to get everyone on the same page. It seems that everything has finally come together about the same time.

For example, the injury to Barker allowed Gran to use the running game as a strong part of their offense. You have to credit the coaching staff for having a backup QB ready to take over and not miss a beat.

All these improvements have came about because the coaching staff did not let the players lose confidence. This is the sign of a very good coaching staff.

As far as giving raises to coaching staff, I Think all coaches should be compensated for good jpb. You have to also remember doing a good job is expected from all employees.

Well, he is obviously doing much better than the two guys he followed. However, I think they should wait until the end of the season for a full evaluation of his performance.

You know what the best thing Gran's done is? ADAPT TO THE PERSONNEL. Dawson blatantly refused to do it last year, insisting on throwing deep balls all game long with an O-line that couldn't pass block to save its life, and it cost us 2, maybe three, wins.

Gran realized really early on this season that UK's best chance at being good is to run over people and use that to set up deep strike passing plays. And he adjusted the entire scheme to fit it!

Gran has apparently done an excellent job but I am not sure anyone deserves a raise at this point. It is exciting to have realistically procured a bowl spot. A 6th win against AP is virtually guaranteed. But (barring any other wins) that would mean the Cats have done what was expected, i.e., win at least 6 of what most thought were 7 winnable games. I'm not sure doing what was "expected" warrants a raise

Furthermore, Gran is not exactly underpaid right now ($650K/yr). IMO, better to let the season play out before considering any raises.

I love how when were doing well people want to pay the coaches more money. When were not doing well, they complain about how much they get paid. Did we not learn anything with Stoops? Don't get caught up and start throwing money around.

Give him a raise and promote him to Associate Head Coach or "Head Coach of the Offense." He's the most competent coordinator we've had here in a long, long time.
