Does Lebby get an extension immediately with a 6th win?

Yes. I was infuriated after the Texas debacle, especially coming right off the Florida debacle. But 6-6 (2-6) after flubbing a couple should-be wins is a great story and source of optimism. It’s hard to sell “I went 0-fer in the SEC again, but we’d have won 2 if not for inexplicably dumb decisions.” But there would be a lot to be encouraged about if we go 6-6 and go to a bowl game. That at least gives you credibility that you can win games in this league.

Considering who we have left, absolutely yes. Two top ten teams and a top 20 team.

I would hope not an extension, but shut down talk of him being fired after this season would be deserved. I'm glad for the win at UPig, but it was UPig...a team that fired their coach mid-season they were so awful. And if they hadn't kept us in the game by committing a record # of penalties, we don't win that game either.

But surely if he doesn't get a 6th win, we don't extend. Right? I mean, surely...

(don't call me surely).

Not nearly enough info to answer the question.

Who’s the win against?

How does the win play out?

How do the other 2 games play out?

Is salary and/or buyout increasing?

1 year extension or 2 year extension?

Does Kamario stick around?

Who else is sticking around or leaving?

There’s way too much in the air to answer now.

Vegas had us at 3.5 wins
Were playing with house money and have a great shot at 6-8 wins including bowl
I have no problem committing to this guy with an extension, If he hires an OC and focuses on game management.

Depends on how he handles the games. One more loss by total mismanagement like Texas than no. Otherwise, yes.

I say yes.
Assuming this is accurate: https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/college-football/coaches/salaries/ , he is making bottom rung money and delivering slightly better than bottom rung results. If Lebby is willing to sign an extension at his current salary with a modest COLA for the extra year, then we should sign it even if he finishes with five wins.

If he gets to 6 wins, unless we look like last year's team in the two losses, we should probably be ready to bump him to at least $5M per year. That seems ridiculous, but the SEC payscale is ridiculous (Pittman was getting $6.8M at Arkansas?). If he wants to get to the $6M, then it probably depends on how he looked in his two losses, and also what we see new hires doing this round. I would assume the big names are going to set records this cycle because of all the schools competing, but once people strike out on the big names, you might see lower salaries for the unproven prospects. But if everybody in the SEC is making new hires at $6M+, we'll probably be playing with fire if we're not willing to go up to $6M.

In this environment, you pretty much have to extend him just to make sure recruits and potential portal players know Lebby is the guy for the long term. Should not come with a really big buyout though.

We are not one of these schools with more money than sense *cough cough A&M*, so we should never give anyone a big buyout.
