Very nice man. Spoke about coaching for him a few years back and was going to the next year but he left, which I completely understood. Great guy and great coach, inside and out.

Isnt he the short coach that coached East Carteret in the 90s/00's

yes he is. Took EC from a no win team to the Eastern finals against us. that was the year 2A eastern playoffs was almost all ECC teams, including the final 4.

He came over and ate and talked with SWO fans at the Pig Pickin in the parking lot before the game. Great Coach and Person.

SWO#1...it was an all ECC semifinals and final in the east region. 2004 was EC, SWO, ED and NS, with SWO spanking Shelby in the ship!

After retired in Julu 2003 I came back for the 03 title game. Also in 04 I was there for the Eastern finals and title game. Probably wont make it this year if we go. I was there for the conference championship game tho with Croatan.

Hope he can get a ring, been close many times before....I first heard of him when I was a 5th grader going to elementary school in Gates County, when he had taken over that year as the high school coach and took over a program that was coming off a 2-8 season and hadn't won a playoff game in 4 years, started 0-3 in 1991, but then went on a winning streak all the way to the 4th Rd and lost a tough one to Rosewood...then the next year had another trip to the 4th Rd. and suffered a 13-12 loss to Lakewood...he left Gates Co. for Andrews (in the mountains, not High Point), was there for a while, and led them to respectability in the Smoky Mountain Conference, which is no easy thing when you have Murphy, Swain, Robbinsville, Cherokee, Hayesville, took over another struggling program and had them at or above .500 and in 2nd Rd of playoffs 2 years in a row, eventually went to Roanoke (now South Creek) where he had a couple of tremendous athletes and made it to the 3rd Rd. at least twice, then like somebody said, went to East Carteret and took over a program that had really struggled for a while, coming off a 2-9 season and them in the 4th Rd in his first year there...can't remember when he left there, but I believe he also made stops at Tuscola and Central Cabarrus before taking the job in South Carolina

He was at East Carteret 2004, 2005, 2006 they went 11-4, 13-1, and 12-2. The best 3 year run that have had since starting in 1983.

Man two fun years vs Shelby and cumming with bo. Man that kid could really ball. There's a highlight clip I'm YouTube somewhere SWO 03 season. Brooks was a monster that year. One of the best backs to ever go through SWO. IMO that was the best SWO team in history

He was also at Hibriten for a couple years in the mid to late 90’s
Hmm....had forgotten or never knew he was at Hibriten, must have been in between Andrews and Roanoke, as I never was sure which year he left Andrews and which year he started at Roanoke

He took Tuscola to the Regional Finals in 2009. Best coach at in game adjustments I have ever seen. We in Waynesville would love to see the Coach get a trophy.

One of his great strategy stories from his first year at Gates Co. and that magical playoff run was in a 3rd Rd playoff game in 1991 against North Edgecombe, who had a running back named Milton Shaw, who came into the game about 120 yards of taking over the all time career rushing yards record in NC....Shaw had about 80 yards at halftime....and finished with about 100....and Gates Co. won the game 8-0 to make the regional finals for the first time since 1973

A HUGE congratulations to Coach Kiefer for his first HS Championship Title. He led his team to a 26-20 victory in the SC 1A Title game. A most rewarding accomplishment with taking over a winless team and Winning there First Ever Championship.
