MA will need to improve their secondary coverage. North did a good job keeping those two strong Def ends out of backfield. Give credit to North qb he made some good passes.

As to the game, with East having handed Robbinsville a very long ride home, I hope their fans come out in droves Wally Shelton Stadium so Mt Airy can have the kind of gate Mt Airy helped North Surry to have last night. It was not 5000, I am sure, but it was a very good gate.
If the Bears clean up their mental mistakes, improve the passing/route running/catching the ball, and work out the kinks on the offensive and defensive lines, East will not enjoy the short ride home. However,,,,, hope springs eternal for Cardinals.

Gimme the Cardinals 35-28 in a shocking barn burner. If not, being .500 after playing 2 of the powerhouse gods of high school football won't be bad. Gotta clean up a bunch of stuff this week. Rather be a Cardinal than anything I know.

I don't see East Surry being the spoiler on the Bears' season opener at home. I haven't seen enough of the Bears yet to predict a good score, but I believe they will be on top at the end.
According to all of your post of how great MA is there is no reason for the Cardinal fans to waste their money.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Wasn’t the bears last loss at home against East Surry? Impressive to go 2 calendar years without losing a game. I don’t see the Bears losing this one.

Alex was the first player of significance to go from 1A Mt Airy to 3A North. Several over the years came the other way.
His senior year, Channel 12 and High Point station did 3 minutes segments about him coming to North from Mt Airy and the affect it would have on the game and two teams. Andy Griffin and Barney were part of the story line.
North, again, won that game as they did the year before, and Alex was the leading rusher for the game, both teams.
A couple games later, North hosted East Surry. Score was 20 to 20 at the half. Alex only had two carries in the first half for total of 25 yards.
Neither Mt Airy nor Central had a game that night so the house was packed.
First play from line of scrimmage 3rd quarter, Alex went 82 yard for the score.
North was held and punted, North's first play from the 35 and Alex went 65 yards to the house.

Bernard Sawyers score and moved North ahead 3 TDs.
Game was over and Alex did not play another down that game. He did go on to a football scholarship as a running back. At that time, he would never have had the chance at smaller Mt Airy to be a running back. That is why I moved him.
To this day, the Mt Airy North Surry football games are always a very mixed bag for me.

That is an interesting question. Are you saying you don’t think North Surry is any good so mount airy overrated or are you really trying to find out if they are as good as last year when they won the conference
I’m not knocking N Surry. I know a lot of fine people from there, but they kind of won that conference by default last year because, well, somebody had to win it. I’m just saying that beating them isn’t some barometer of success. “Mounurry” is heavy favorite to win another state championship, but people acting like that’s the best team left on the schedule is ummm… something
Starmount will be the toughest game left on our schedule. So who is your team? I like it when people doubt the bears.

I figured you were a ram fan and there is nothing wrong with our water. You can say heavy favorite all you want but word out of booneville is you all are headed to the championship this year. Well guess we will just see about that come 9/27. I am sure both will be undefeated and can’t wait to get there. But our concern first is the game ahead of us and that is east surry. Word out of Boonville? We are just happy to have a real coach again and be somewhat relevant after a decade of despair. Nobody expects to win a state title, yet. Keeping it somewhat close against mounurry will be a huge step in the right direction.
