First off, congrats to both teams on representing our area and winning tonight. From the sound of things, both clubs showed some rust early but hit their stride after about a quarter. It’s a shame these two teams will meet in the 3rd round and not the Western Finals but that’s the hand they both were dealt. Should be another classic next Friday in Wallace Shelton Stadium with standing room only and a unreal atmosphere. Good luck to everyone involved within this rivalry. We all know how special it is. Christmas has come early for both fan bases.

Pretty much Buzz I hate it I know this football and you take risk but how could our luck come to a end in one single game with a big margin of win are these injurys legit or possibly cramps or bruise ups

Donovan Greene suffered a concussion. And it did not look pretty. Was down for nearly ten minutes.

RB Jonathan Smith also badly hurt his ankle. Heard from some of the staff after the game that they believe it is broken.

Also, number 8 for MA (special teams, wr, and backup QB) went out in 2nd and didn’t return.

If they can’t go next Friday, hate to say it, but the bears are gonna be in rough shape.

Maybe not an excuse but a valid reason they are not at full strength. ES was one minute away from winning earlier in the year so they are a legitimate contender either way. That has already been established.

Hate that for the Bears if it turns out they cant go. Murphy had very talented teams in 2001 and 2014 sunk by injuries, so I know what that feels like as a fan, unfortunate part of the game. Hope both young men make a full and quick recovery.

WOW..there's where having little to no depth kills ya. I felt ES had better depth, but lacked the will to win during the 1st match up. MA will get destroyed by ES without those two play makers.

The fans after the game were of course happy to win, but there was this uneasy sense that the season is probably done.

Gives a player or two a chance to step up , Bears had an undefeated jv team, hill will get the start at running back , he had a little success in the second half against the cards . I’m imagine cole Shelton will see snaps as well, he was a great jv running back in his day. I imagine josh penn will finally see the field on the varsity side of the ball after having a dominating jv season. Bears have talent outside of 3 or 4 players they just haven’t been able to show it as the injured players were so dominant in there positions. I would say Greene plays , smith won’t for rest of season. We won’t make excuses like one poster said we would , what we will do is line up and play a little football, you might be surprised. But if the cards win they will play in the ship, the northwest 1a and west will be represented by a real good football team , I’ve been high on the cards all year . But then again I don’t think I would count my chickens before they hatch , you still got to play a game against a team at there place that will have a heavy chip on there shoulder and a tradition that has expectations when you put that jersey on. A rivalry that is bitter and usually is a toss up no matter who has what. So we will see

If Greene has a concussion no way he will get to play probably under the concussion protocol. It's hard to get cleared from that in 7 days from what I've heard. Hate it for the kid.

Not saying posters on this site will make excuses I was speaking more towards the talk around town will be that MA was the better team which I just don’t believe to be true honestly wish we could get a shot at them at full strength

I don't think Mt Airy is as good defensively as they were last year, even at full strength. I was very surprised Swain was able to move the ball that well on Mt Airy based on what I saw from Swain in the Murphy and Robbinsville games.

MA was horrible on D last night and remember had been a while since they have played it made big difference.

was looking at SC roster after the game; sure was a lot of “10 & 11” listed under grade....

Swain is junior heavy but their two best skill players are sophomores, they'll have a good team next year if they can find a little bit of a passing game.

I get what you're saying buzz but Swain was completely shut down against Murphy, running clock during the 4th quarter. A lot of Bear fans were saying Mount Airy would put a running clock on Swain and it just didn't happen.

I really wish we could've seen a Murphy - Mount Airy rematch this year with both teams at full strength. This Murphy defense is a lot better than the one Mount Airy saw last year.

Anyway hope you get some good news on the injury front, would hate to see a fantastic player like Greene's high school career end in this fashion.
