East Surry @ Reidsville

East Surry is bringing the best team in their school history to reidsville Friday night . They are not your average 1a team this season with 2 kids going to acc schools next year a defensive end that Clemson and Alabama want along with a sophomore defensive end that will land at a high d1 school. BUT REIDSVILLE is REIDSVILLE and the state championships, the tradition , speed and athleticism at every position is self explanatory. I know us folks in Surry county have been looking to this game since it was announced last year. This East Surry team is loaded . I see a good one on Friday , I’d love for our conference brethren to pull a upset but I see a score like 35 -21 rams. Could be a little closer, what’s everybody else think about this one. Both schools will ultimately be the winner as East Surry travels very well , I expect to see the whole town of pilot mtn in reidsville Friday night, the gate will be HUGE!!

Dunno where you get you info from "dawg" but hes not being recruited as a d-end and dude not bout to get offered by Clemson or Alabama bet lol. A recruiting visit a helluva lot different than a offer. Them schools not wasting offers on 3 stars in the 500s

As for this game we all know Reidsville is bout to introduce them boyz to that TRUE speed. Hey just like Tarboro wit Mt Airy in 17 and East last year. Maybe East keeps it close for a half but the end the day way to many athletes and speed on Reidsville side. East is pretty good for what they got to work with but Reidsville snatched.

I was not all that impressed with him Friday night but they recruit players on potential and up side. He is six four two hundred sixty pounds and is pretty quick. I was more impressed with the players that don't get mentioned like Mosely or Stevens. They are very good receivers.

I would love to see the Cards put up a good showing (or even pull the upset). I think the 1st qtr will be the difference. Reidsville is always stacked and I think they will have extra motivation to show that ES isn’t on their level. If East can keep their emotions in check, weather the initial storm from Reidsville, and execute their game plan, they will be in the game. Friday will be a good litmus test as to how much this team has grown since the Tarboro game last December.

Imo a good showing here is a win for the Cardinals. I'd say if they can keep it within 21 that's victory. A win would be awesome, but my main goal if I am East is to use Reidsville to prepare for potential matchups down the road and to see where improvement is needed. I hope East Surry isn't so set on pulling the upset Friday that things quickly become a disaster.

Rams coach Jimmy Teague will be the North Carolina Shrine Bowl Coach this year and he picked E. Surry's Boaz to be his QB for the game. The coaches thought he was the best passer they saw at the combines.

Carolina plans to play him at tight end.

When the power ratings come out later this week Reidsville will be about an 8 or 9 point favorite in this game.

My wife has lots of relatives from the Shoals area and many of her cousins attended E. Surry so we are looking forward to this one. Should be a great game and don't believe all the hype that Reidsville will blow E. Surry out.

Being a rivalry game had a lot to do with that. West did have a lot of receivers open early that the QB couldn't connect with that the Rams will. Hopefully they will be prepared a little better

While it will make a couple of the East Surry fans chirp like a wild Turkey in mid April, I would like to see them make a strong showing and represent 1a well.

It would be nice to get a little credit at the 1a level outside of Tarboro and anytime you can beat teams like Reidsville it goes a long way.

I have to chime in on the 1a / 2a topic. I think for one that in past years outside of tarboro that several teams that have dropped classifications from 2a to 1a have struggled. Phil Padgett and Battle Holley can attest to that. Wallace rose hill and southwest onslow struggled at the 1a ranks. Take it that Wallace broke thru in 2009 for their run, but up to that point they never measured up to those Thomasville teams, lost 3 in a row if I ain’t mistaken, same with SWO, they finally broke thru and got 1 against swain. But to say Tarboro, Wallace, swo hasn’t won their share of 2a hardware is wrong. Year to year I don’t see that much of a difference in a 1aa team and a 2a team, maybe the last 3 or so but traditionally speaking not at all. I think most years that teams like Murphy , Swain , Mitchell and Mt Airy can play with 2a teams, every year probably not, this year for MA , hell no , 85 percent freshman sophomore rostered. But to say 1a doesn’t compete , come man you got to be real about it

It’s debatable this is East Surry best team ever. The 2002 East Surry team that lost to Albermarble and TA McClendonn in the Semis, to finish 13-1 would have something to say about that.....

Not sure how Thomasville finished in 2002 but Reidsville beat them 34-21 that year. Then the following year 2003 Reidsville beat them 34-7. I believe Thomasville went on to win the state championship that year in 1A. Reidsville won it in 2AA IN 2002-2003. The 2002-2003 team was the best Receiving core Reidsville has ever but on the field up until this year. This years receivers are probably the 2nd best we’ve put on the field

I was referring to the 2001 Albemarle team that beat East Surry. Albemarle and Tville had two epic clashes that season.

Tville won State in 2004 when Reidsville beat them 34-0. Reidsville definitely had an edge in that series by the end of it.

2 very different ES teams (also 2 different eras of FB). 2001 team was run dominant with an amazing back in Griggs (but passed effectively off the run game). Current team is a much better passing team. The defensive groups are more similar than the offensive groups. No way to truly know but it would be an interesting matchup if they could theoretically face one another. That is neither here nor there as it applies to this week’s game though.

Just A wild guess, Reidsville has all there better players on varsity every year with varsity having 46 players. just my opinion. That is why they are so deep.

Yes Reidsville has no problem stripping their JV team down. So the Varsity can have depth. They get plenty of action too because Reidsville usually pull their starters out the game around the 3rd qtr, so I wouldn’t toot my horn too much at East JV Winning. Reidsville JV has lost to Rockingham County JV before.
