Any predictions for this one I have East Surry by about the same amount as the first time these two played. Cards playing for their first trip to the state title in the modern football era.

East has a lot of weapons ,and better than they were earlier in season,I’m sure Starmount has improved ,but shouldn’t hang with cards

Talked with several of the players Today. The game early in the season might as well have been last year. Alot of water has gone under the bridge since August. They are laser focused on the Rams and know their in for a battle in Boonville. These two programs have a rich history between them and know each other well. Should be a good one.

Rams beat a #10 seed and #11 seed to get to this game their side of the bracket was a joke. ES should roll. ES playing like they on a mission.

Congratulations to Starmount. You’re still playing which is the only thing that matters at this point. Never can tell how a team performs after a huge victory against their biggest rival. Letdowns often happen.

They may be on a mission but let's give credit where it is due. Coach Diamont led them to the point that this could be a very special season. Coach Lowman did not become the great coach by putting on East Surry colors. Anyone could have taken this team to where they at now because of the hard work of Coach Diamont. He had them prepared to make this run. Great job Coach Diamont!

You will not find a single person who loves and adores Coach Diamont more than I do. He became like my 2nd dad when my father passed away during my middle school years. Coach Diamont deserves all the credit in the world for preparing these Cardinals for the run they are making, however, you can't discredit the job Trent Lowman and the rest of the coaching staff have done in keeping the players dialed in every single week. Coach Lowman was walking in to a no win situation for many who thought Coach Diamont was done wrong in the way he was let go, but to his credit he has not let any of the outside chatter interfere with the program's success this year. If they make it to and win the state championship, Coach Diamont better be the first person to have a ring ordered though. Go Cards!!!

Agreed let’s give credit where it’s due coach Loweman came into a situation that many people thought nobody would want. He came in on what many said was the hot seat due to politics or whatever and he has answered the call teaching players a whole new system in a short amount of time and having them all buy into it to get further than any East Surry team has ever been in his first year. If this is a sign of what is to come East clearly made a great hire hats off to coach Loweman for what he’s done

Second matchup for these 2 teams , what’s everyone think ,both teams have probably improved .First matchup East had a balanced attack in the run and pass.

Seems like this one is intentionally quiet. One team isn’t used to being here, so they don’t want to say too much and jinx it. The other team didn’t expect much out of this years group, but got hot and caught some breaks and here they are.

ES definitely has the individual talent advantage this year, but it’s the Western finals. Who knows what could happen. I’ve seen better teams than ES lose to bigger underdogs than Starmount in the playoffs before.

I think this thread being quiet is due to the deep respect these two programs/fan bases have for each other. ES and Starmount have had numerous slobberknockers over the past 30 years. It’s essiently a old Northwest Conference game and I personally think it’s very cool that we in the tri-county area are treated to this game. Our entire area knows we will have a representive playing for a state championship this year. You see this play out a lot of years in the SMC and use to see it alot 20+ years ago in the old Maiden, Bandys, Newton Conover conference. That’s just cool for all of us that are from small 1 stop light towns.

This is not the farthest that East Surry has made it give credit to Coach Diamont he made it to regional final in 2001 against albermarle. Lost to a very good team.

I seen both of these teams earlier in the year against west stokes. Starmount did not look very good then so the coaching staff and players put some work in to get this far. It's tough to beat a team twice. Good luck to both teams.

Nothing but respect for the guys over in Booneville. My oldest son went to the long snapping camp over there for a couple years. The coaches were top notch guys. Don't know who's left from the old coaching staff but they have ran a program just about as good as you can for the last 20+ years. Looking forward to Friday night!!

Both teams have surely gotten better ,but East has become very fast on defense ,the offense hasn’t slowed all year ,many many weapons on this team ,several have stepped up tremendously ,and finally this team has gotten physical ,very hard hits layed down last few weeks.

No discredit to Diamont he absolutely made the 4th round in 2001 I was banking on East beating starmount this week when I made that statement

ESODcards don't count your chickens before they hatch. There is 48 minutes of football to be played in Booneville Friday night. Hard to beat a good team twice and Starmount sounds greatly improved since first meeting. Go Rams!

I think Friday's game will be a close contest. ES is the better team, but Starmount has improved and ES has to be careful not to have an emotional letdown after the MA game. In the 1st ES/Starmount contest the game was actually pretty close during the 1st half before ES pulled away in the 2nd half. It should be a great environment Friday night.

Northwest he stated banking on East Surry to win sounds to me like counting chickens before they hatch. Unless banking is trying to buy it.

Tarheel you seem a little salty towards the Cardinals- the kids playing are giving everything they have and bringing pride to that community. Don’t cast a shadow on that. I’ll admit I was wrong last week in picking MA over ES- HOWEVER- The Cards will fall this week. Starmount is on a roll, and at home. They’ll get their payback just like ES did in MA. ES can’t go into Starmount and win twice in the same year!! GATA

Starmount will have to be nearly perfect to win this game. ES will and should be the heavy favorite.

On paper this game shouldn’t be close but a big physical team in cold playoff weather can always pull off an upset ball control will be the key for the rams dominate time of possession and keep east surrys offense off the field and they might have a shot other than that east will score at will and should win if they can get only a few stops
