Yeah, there are a million “retirement destroyed” stories on the ‘net. It’s sobering. Outside lottery tickets ($10 a week), I never gamble. The way I look at it, the house will make its money somehow and more likely than not they’d be making their money off me. Lottery tickets? It’s a joke but I don’t go beyond that so, no big deal in the end.
I do not gamble either other than a $2 mega millions or powerball if the jackpot is greater than $300m. I also know that it is a waste of my $2. But the headaches I would deal with if I won... I don't think I'd want to.

Gambling is just like any other addiction. If some wants to destroy their life…..well…..no one is forcing them to do it.
Yeah but when you screw over 50 people that thought they were going to Italy and probably will never see their money back it's more than destroying their own life.

My elderly neighbor blew through her husbands $200,000 pension and ran up credit cards around $80,000. She passed away and the kids had to sell the house and put her husband in a home to pay the bills she ran up off.

What other addiction does someone pick up at 70?

I've know your takes after many years here though and it doesn't surprise me with this one.

Yawn. You might be surprised to learn I am someone who was screwed over by a gambling addict. Multiple times. And I still don’t care.

I'm sorry that I missed out on applying. I could have just done the training, picked up some cash, and gone on disability for carpal tunnel syndrome. Is that still a thing?

Happy Valley Casino is offering a free, 12-week Dealer School, with classes starting in December and January. So far it has received more than 250 applications, mostly from State College area residents, and those accepted will be paid $15 an hour for training 20 hours per week.

Wouldn't PSU students be more likely to become addicted to gambling via sports gambling apps on their phones?

The folks at risk from the casino likely are townies from relatively low income homes

College kids only have so much money. The locals aren't going to blow in what little they have for Lubert.

MFG those food options sound and look atrocious. What an afterthought.

“When a player gets hungry, they have a place to go real quick to get something good to eat and get back to playing their games,” Pearson said.

I find the above quote to be hilarious. The servers will be trained to say, "Dude, hurry up and finish your sandwich. You need to get back out there and give us more of your money".

A casino at a mall. Murica.

Tons of video game machines at our local gas station. Someone always sitting in front of one anytime I go inside.

Maybe it’s nothing more than bells, whistles, and the occasional rush from winning.

I was reading an article in The New Yorker that said that Las Vegas casinos have introduced roulette wheels with a triple zero.
this made me thnk back to math class one day to the students, "whats greater than infinity?"
Student's reply: "double infinity"

Manatree's Math says that's triple my return. Manatree's hoping to fund his retirement from Penn State on the back of Uncle Ira. Manatree's is also waiting for the optimal time to cash in on his investment in Forever Stamps. He got in on the ground floor in '07 at 41¢ a share. Currently looking at a fat and sassy 78¢ a share. :p

I think I heard that Ira is no longer involved, and has not been for a while after selling his interest and taking an early profit. Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I heard or read that.

Take heart, central Pennsylvanians! Ira says the development will "proceed as planned."

'Lubert described the proposed casino as a “transformational development” to life for central Pennsylvania.'

Hear, hear! I'm glad to be living in central Pennsylvania. These are incredible times. I can't wait to experience the enhanced quality of life that a mini-casino brings to us. I'll be gorging myself on that comped buffet food as I stare in a catatonic state at a flashing slot machine. Paradise.

Squaller big time drugs open prostitution and high crimes coming to SC. A ******** in the making.

"until you've had a good cigar and a shot of whiskey, you're missing the second and third best things in life."
Actually, I'm a once upon a time connoisseur of both. Still do the whiskey in moderation but not the cigars. Lungs are not the best these days.

I've accepted that Mr Lubert will never support honoring Joe but the more money Ira Lubert can make, the more he'll stay financially involved in supporting PSU sports. Win/win
