He chose the Holiday Bowl in Hawaii over a NYD (or Jan 2) bowl so he could have his bowl business completed sooner than later to make his way over to North Carolina.

I think it had a lot to do with his decision. He had a 2 week head start to get situated at UNC.

nobody wanted them - Hawaii was the only bowl interested. Hell, they don't sell tickets with a coach - they certainly would sell tickets without one.....

Oh look, more completely inaccurate information on SPS. CUSA commish gave USM the option of playing in any bowl but the Liberty due to contract issues. Fedora chose Hawaii and claimed "vacation". The AD claimed that playing in a bowl before Christmas would "make the transition of coaches easier". Fact is, Fedora wanted to bounce to UNC as quickly as possible, and saw a free trip to Hawaii. Plus he wouldn't have to prepare as much facing Nevada....which showed. I'm pretty sure Davis or any other offensive player hadn't touched a football since Houston.

...it was a no brainer. I think USM only expected to lose $5,000 on that trip.

Ticket City bowl officials were at the Houston game. After the game they told USM's AD they wanted USM in their game and guaranteed a ranked Big 10 team as the opponent. USM's AD to help out Fedora for the reasons stated in the op chose the Hawaii bowl instead. He did not tell the school President he had done that. She learned at church the next day.

In the end:
Fedora got what he wanted.
USM players got a great week in Hawaii.
USM football got it's 12th win and a top 20 ranking.
USM's AD got fired and is not the AD today.

you more than likely would have still gotten your 12th win. The only thing is you'd probably still have Giannini. Whether you consider that good or bad...you tell me.

Bad. For sure. He needed to go.
