Tonight WWS will host NN to decide last place in the DVC, the previous 3 time these teams have played in Week 9 it was to determine the conference championship but not so much tonight. The thing that is mind boggling is how quickly both programs collapsed over the last few years. Hopefully things can turn around at both schools over the next few years since the DVC is much better when these teams are rolling along.

Crazy year. Reeters and PC out of the playoffs, Bolingbrook will likely be out, I think I remember reading LZ is out...who knows what the hell is going on.

Is this a result of crazy parents or something else? I know at SR some of the better athletes in the building are choosing not to play football anymore.

Throw in EStl and we could have a hell of a tourney with traditional powers that are left out of the playoffs this year. At WWS the numbers are way down they started with 75 this year and two weeks ago only dressed about 55.

Programs seem have multi year cycles of similar performance, be they success, futility or mediocrity. Rare do you see a school have wild swings every other year.

Rochester is an example of a school that are enjoying an up cycle. Boylan had been on a long up cycle. Last year, they started to go down and they went down even further this year. The first year you might have thought was a blip, but their continued underperformance relative to previous years point to a downward cycle.

I think the real question is if this change of fortune at WWS or NN is a solid down cycle or not. If NN fails to qualify for the playoffs next year, that would be three straight years and it would be very hard to describe those disappointing results as an aberration or a blip.

Think about all the perennial powers who are down: LZ, Brook, WWS, NN, Boylan, Morris, PC, SR. Then even schools like Bloomington you used to be able to pencil them in for a 6-3/7-2 every year they are terrible. And a Marian C on life support.

On the other side is that with a victory Friday, Wheeling and/or Hoffman Estates could qualify for the playoffs. It has been 7 years for Wheeling and 21 years for Hoffman
