Whew! That was a nail biter...and not quite the game most expected. But it says something about this team that even with so much not working, they came together and got the job done against a good team on the road.

Will there be a let down this week against Arizona State?

Post your best prediction of the final score for this game. We will announce winners after the game.

The Basic Rules of tabulation this week will be as follows:
-We will track predicted scores (one guess per person) and come up with a winner by 'least cumulative variance.' That is, the real variance of each team's guess added together.
-If two people have given the same score, then the first one that gave the score is the winner. Other than that, there could be co-champions. if two people have given different scores, but have the same cumulative variance.
-Edits to posted scores will be allowed until game time.
-If the least cumulative variance happens to pick the wrong winner, they will be awarded "Closest to the Pin,' but the overall winner must guess the winning team correctly.
-A 'Most Wrong' Award will be given out for the guess with the largest cumulative variance.
–Mistakes do happen. Please monitor your own points and notify if something does not look correct.
-No more guesses or changes after kickoff.

Please Observe The Following Honorary Rules:
-The Cardinal & Gold Rule - Whole numbers only. Fractional numbers will be rounded up.
-The NorCalSurfer Rule – No ‘Negative’ score predictions
-The BigGuard Modification - If someone has two guesses in the same post, for humor or other purposes, the second (last) pick is the one that will be used to make it consistent... so try to be clear.
-The Trojan Eternity Clarification – If a contestant inadvertently (or otherwise) makes more than one pick, the last pick will be the one used for the purposes of the competition. Technically, this would be the “last” pick.
- The Lizard King Rule – In order to qualify for the honorary title of most wrong, guesses must be at least somewhat within reason. Nothing over 70 points scored for instance is probably reasonable for either team this week.
-The Lizard King Clarification – If a player picks a score over the above stated maximum, they will not be considered for the Coveted Title of Most Wrong for that week. Players will get one mulligan per season on this clarification rule.
-The Globe Rule – If more than one player has the same net differential, but at least one has picked the correct team to win...then no “Closest To The Pin” Trophy will be awarded that week.
-The Golden Trojan Rule – Picks must be posted in the correct weekly pick thread. Otherwise they will not be picked up and counted toward the contest.
-The Beeto Clarification –If two or more people are declared co-winners as a result of having the same net differential, but a third (or more) person has a duplicate score, those later duplicate scores will be disregarded for purposes of the weekly competition only. They are still used for the YTD competition.
-The HectorSpectre Revisionary Revision – If an edit is made after game time and no prior record of the initial pick is recorded, the pick for that week will be disregarded for Season Long purposes. *Looks like we might have a new rule next week. Two players challenged the clarity rules this week:
-The JCakus/DowneyTrojan Clarification - If it is not clearly stated that a prediction is not meant to be your pick, it will be deemed a pick. You must state clearly if you are only joking or passing along information. If no other pick appears on the board, that pick will be used regardless.

A Season Long Champion will also be crowned:
-Each week we will calculate the 'average' net points for any participant that has picks in at least 2/3 of the available games.
-We will include all games through the regular season in this format. However, once any playoffs or post season games begin, you MUST play those games in order to continue on to become the season champion. It's sort of like the Fed Ex Cup.
- Last year the Season Long Prediction Czar was @TrojanHoss Please show him the respect he deserves this season. Whatever that might be…
- Some of the most important perks of winning are the year long bragging rights and the knowledge that you really are better than everyone else.
- It's a long season, don't give up. Have fun and thanks for playing

Remember, this thread is about having fun, expressing our honest opinions on how we think the team will do THIS WEEK, and maybe even learning a little from each other. We are not going to always agree with everyone on our predictions--but this is not the place for calling people out or derogatory comments. Otherwise you may get virtually flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Give us your prediction and tell us why you think it will happen. On any given week we could be very right or very, very wrong. That's sort of the nature of sports though, isn't it? You win some...you lose some. You pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and tomorrow is a new day. Sort of a nice analogy for life.

The Trojans are looking to open a full regular season 5-0 for the first time since 2006. (there was that weird Covid anomaly year in between)

Meanwhile ASU is, apparently, trying to become the poor man's Oregon by "unveiling" a uniform combo for this week's game.

Wouldn't shock me if USC lays waste to a reeling ASU football program. Keep ASU out of two red zone opportunities and this is a shutout. Trojans could easily hang 60 but Riley calls off the dogs at 49 but maybe a USC defensive score. USC gets back to scoring on every first half possession and puts this away in the third quarter. Calling it, Raleek scores a long TD run of over 40 yards in the 4th (lol, wishful thinking) Jones and Dye break 100 yds. again. Caleb throws for 250, 3 TD passes, maybe one rush. USC gets over 650 yards of offense. All I see is some kind of statistical massacre with at least 3 forced turnovers for the good guys.

I’m a little concerned about Caleb Williams throwing from every conceivable off balance position, but he did get away with it all night—except for the one that cost us a TD and led to the first turnover of the season. That ball need not have been thrown at all. But perhaps this is nit picking a pretty impressive overall performance.

Defense did not look great in the first half, but I thought shored up nicely in the second half.

Special teams probably gives me the most concern. Way too many poor decisions. Catching the ball at the 3 and returning it 7 yards only to have a holding call “once” should be enough to have conversation about taking a fair catch for the rest of the game. Having it happen twice in a row is inexplicable.

Too many penalties across the board last night.

Still, perhaps these are first world problems (in college football terms). Hopefully we can get these issues squared away before the Utah game (or even WSU).

The Official Game Prediction Winner of the Week Award this week is a tie. Three people had a net differential of only 4 points! However one of those was a duplicate pick, so there is a two way tie at the top.
@Hashtags with a pick of 45 - 24
@Kyle.usc with 42 – 21

@Trojans 11xchamps also had a net diff of 4, but had a duplicate pick

Congratulations folks!

The Extremely Coveted Most Wrong Title this week goes to @FleetwoodMack who boldly predicted USC 6 ASU 3
