First, let me say that I know people will think I am an anti-Christ, liberal, whining loser but here goes.<div>
</div><div>Why the hell has MLB made God Bless America a fixture during baseball games instead of the damn traditional Take Me Out to the Ballgame??? I understood why it was done for the WS right after 9/11 and all. I thought it was fantastic and great and dammit, I felt like an American.</div><div>
</div><div>But, can someone help me to understand why its still happening? And, now, we are taking it a step further and making it EXTRA sappy with having a military person singing it. (nothing at all against the military or those people singing it, but dammit, come on already).</div><div>
</div><div>It just seems so wrong to me that we have taken away such a great moment in baseball and turned it into something else entirely. I was traumatized by 9/11. I will remember that day for the rest of my life. I truly do not think I need to be reminded by it during 7th inning of a baseball game. I think if we as Americans need to be reminded of 9/11 during a baseball game, then perhaps, we should be doing something other than playing baseball to honor it.</div><div>
</div><div>Plus, I LOVED THE IDEA OF TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME. Its the middle of the 7th inning, **** is about to hit the fan. Better stretch now because you aren't going to breath for the next 2 1/2 innings. The calm and fun before the storm of the end of the game. It was just right for this moment.</div><div>
</div><div>Maybe I am 100% off base. But, this is a sports message board and I feel like it sucks. So, there you have it.</div><div>
</div><div>GO ON WITH THE CHLOROFORM!!!</div>

I don't watch much baseball, but when I have lately, I've wondered the same thing. Mostly, I just think it's a horribly lame song. This isn't even due to the fact that I'm not religious, and in any case I'm even fairly patriotic. I've just always thought 95% of patriotic songs that aren't the national anthem are pretty terrible.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame all the way. That makes it feel like baseball.

At least at every game I've been to post 9/11 has had Take Me Out to the Ballgame. Also, I don't believeGod Bless America issung all the time, at every game during the season. There are a few teams that do, but it's their choice whether they do it or not. For most big games, post season especially, the networks work it in.

And wondering why they continue to sing God Bless America doesn't make you a liberal.Your postions on economic policy, foreign policy, and social policy make you a conservative or a liberal.

I thought the guy that sang it last night was awesome.

I've honestly wondered how they've been able to get away with doing it for so long without the ACLU slapping a lawsuit on them. I know it's not religious but does mention God and that's usually enough to get their attention it seems.

And I do agree I'm surprised it's hung around this long. I don't watch a ton of baseball so maybe Sehs is right and the networks want it.
