Going back to the Alabama player's comments..

After the Alabama game, one of their senior defensive linemen made a statement that Kentucky was one of the most physical teams he had played since he had been in college.

At the time, I think most of us saw that as a player being gracious after a big win over a lesser team.

Well....it's been a few weeks since then, and here's what we know.

We punched the ball down the throat of a pretty good South Carolina defense (prior to the Alabama game)

We ran well, but not great, right into the teeth of Alabama's defense.

We then punched it down the throat of a solid Vandy defense....

The next game we ran at will right into the teeth of another good Miss St. defense....

At this point, to me it looks like the comments of the Alabama player weren't just the offerings of a gracious winner. It looks true. Somehow we have taken a team recruited to run the Air Raid and transformed into a bruising, bulldozing offense that not only isn't afraid to run it right at you...they want to. It's their identity.

People are going to say it's boring....but damn, it's awesome to watch us run the same thing over and over again and people cannot stop us.

People that say it's "boring" no nothing about football. When you can run the ball consistently like we have in the last several games, it means you are literally in control of that game. You control the clock, you control the field position, you keep the opponents offense on the bench, and you force the opponent's defense to put an extra player in the box, which means it allows you to pass the ball as well.
All that adds up to wins.

Agree, there is nothing at all boring with running right over the top of an opponent and our offense imposing their will on the opponent's defense.

That excites me!

It's demoralizing, no gimmicks are needed, and it is what the traditional top college football powers have been doing for years (Bama, OSU, etc.).

This is the championship football formula. Now we just need to ditch the Air Raid siren for a LOUD wildcat's scream followed up with the pyrotechnics. We have sold ourselves short for years telling ourselves we could not play conventional football in the SEC. We glimpsed the truth with Coach Brooks, which is why so many of us still revere him. Coach Curci? Coach Claiborne? All fielded some very competitive football teams without resorting to smoke and mirrors.

Not to mention that it helps a guy like Johnson so much. Play action and an occasional shot downfield is so effective when you just can drop 8 into coverage.

I am so fired up for Saturday. Normally I hate a noon kickoff but I'm happy I won't have to wait all day!

We should know seeing as we've been on the demoralized side of that so often over the years. I love clock control power football. My 2 favorite teams to watch outside of the Cats are GT and Navy strictly to watch the triple option.

IMHO, line play, both offensive and defensive, and sound fundamental football skills are the keys to winning football.

It is a "sight for sore eyes" to see our FB team improving in both of these key aspects. But it will need to be sustained and improved for us to play consistently winning football in the SEC.

The UofL game (they currently have a Top 10 team in both total defense and total offence) will be the test to see exactly how far we have come.

I hope we're competitive there, but our three remaining conference games are a much better metric, IMO. These games @Missouri and at home against Georgia are games that the sort of team we aspire to be wins. Even @Tennessee, a good but not great team, is one we should be competitive in if we're the sort of team we're trying to be. Road games against legit top 10 opponents are a pretty strict test.

Hopefully, we will continue to see improvement in the three "winnable" games you mentioned leading upto the UofL game and be able to put that game in the "winnable" category as well!! :sunglasses:

When you throw the football only three things can happen, and two of them are bad. (Famous old football wisdom)

Throat poker, would you care to chime in on the topic of running the football down someone's throat?

There is nothing boring whatsoever about this current offense. I love smash mouth football and I'm honestly thrilled to see us move away from the air raid to more of a pro-style system. Air raid teams tend to be soft, as it is a more finesse style of football. A balanced pro-style attack where the ground game isn't just a token part of the offense demands toughness. This style of play has by its nature helped transform these boys into some grown *** men.

We finally have a quality Offensive Coordinator and QB coach. We also have more experience and depth but it can't be said enough how good these hires was.

There is nothing more beautiful to me than to see a RB pushing the pile, carrying a defender 5-10 yds or simply Mack trucking a defender. Benny Snell Jr paints a lot of pretty pictures ;-)

Been saying Snell reminds me of Pinner since I first saw him carry a pile.

I agree, that's a good comparison. One slight twist though. Benny is a true freshman ( I assume 18 yrs. old) and Toose was about 23 (I think) his senior year.

With the emergence of our young lineman and improved recruiting in that area (hello Jedrick! LOL!), Benny's impact on the program bodes very well for the future. It's also very nice that we have a load of talent in the backfield so Benny doesn't have to carry the ball 30 times/game. Again, similar to our OL recruiting, we are recruiting well in that area also. IIRC, Rose was close to playing as a true freshman this year so he's in the mix next season. I'm usually wrong on this stuff, but at this point I'm inclined to think Boom will be back for senior year so we'll be running it down the opponent's throat next year as well. Losing Toth will hurt, but hopefully Drake is ready to step in and Bunchy stays at guard.

I'm calling our new identity the "Run Raid". We need to replace the siren with some audio of tanks rumbling. LOL!

UK has one of the best O-lines in the SEC and next year they'll be one of the best in the Country...

While I realize there are members of our fan base who would rather be 'entertained' with a 45-42 loss than be bored with a 10-7 win I really think what those fans saying we could never win playing 'smash mouth' football in the SEC was actually, we can't win playing the same style all the rest of the SEC plays. Just my completely uninformed opinion they have have somewhat of a point. However, with so many SEC teams running spreads now and so many defenses practicing primarily against spreads it is a great time for UK to just strap it on and bully the other team. Whereas teams used to practice and recruit for power football on both offense and defense, I think a loot of defenses are just not completely prepared for that kind of offense in this day of the spread.

But but but we don't have the power K on our helmet!!! I keep hearing about how the power K made us Kentucky so tough!! I just can't believe it
