Having Powell back next year is as about as good as it can get. Wonder if he would have stayed if he didn't have that late injury. I would think his film, stats and combine performance would have landed him on an NFL roster.
Returning the two OL starters are also big- both showed a ton of improvement this year and I am sure both understand they are on the cusp of NFL eyes and one more year under an NFL OL Coach is by far their best option.
Now- if we could hear that KM is coming back!

I believe Melton declares for the draft - could argue it either way. Wonder what his brother is telling him?

A couple of other guys at DB too- I think they need another good year and if most of them are back- we are in great shape.

I still look mostly at NFL vs staying but NIL/Portal is a factor too. More worried about the DB's in the portal.

But what a great start so far.

I saw a list on some site the other day of the top 300 players for this year's NFL draft.
Two Rutgers players were on it......Max Melton at #99 and Tyreem Powell at #243

I've looked at some NFL draft sites and most have Melton rated as a late 2nd day pick (3rd Rd). I'm not it's worth staying for him.

We haven't lost anyone that the program is going to miss IMHO. Guys coming back, so far, more than most here expected (the ol' "we're ******" crowd after the Maryland game) and the D is going to be GREAT next season IMHO. I also think that Rodgers is a GREAT replacement for Max based on how he stepped up late in the season.

Thinking Flip Dizon is back as well. Fingers crossed!

That's a good story and a good lesson Kevin taught the kid.

Lots of sports fans, most of whom have never played and/or coached beyond a youth sports level, if at all, form these grossly oversimplified views of what's taking place on the field or court or whatever. They see an incompletion and it's always the QBs fault, like the other half dozen things that had to go right on the play are irrelevant. They see a play fail and it's always because it's a bad play call, it's never because the other team simply out-executed us on the given play.

I know guys who, in pickup basketball, could probably hit 29/30 college 3 pointers 7 days a week, against competition that never played beyond HS. Stick 'em on a court with D1 college players and all of a sudden, it's like the basket is smaller than the bal; they can't hit the broad side of a barn.

It's entirely possible that GW will never become consistent enough. We have no way of knowing because some players peak early and never reach their predicted potential and other players seem terrible and then suddenly it all comes together for them and they're amazing. Only time can tell.

I hope GW becomes more consistent because if he does, he'll be really good, and we'll be winning more games. Doesn't mean we shouldn't pick up another good QB in the portal if we can; of course we should. But I think the odds of GW becoming more consistent by next season are greater than the odds of us picking up a QB who beats him out for the starting role. Either way, the team and fanbase win. But if it's GW being more consistent, than it's our guy from the start who does good, which should make every fan happy.

He only took 12 snaps the last 7 games of the season. Assume either "the talk" or "writing on the wall."
depth...man, we had no one to take a snap for Sutton as he was pulling himself onto the field.

I assume Greg has a plan. Again....why did he have 100+ snaps the first 5 games? Gotta think Greg knows a couple of the guys who were R-Frosh this year are ready to go at guard next season. Also, a lot easier to get guards in the portal, then good tackles, so that's a plus I'd guess?

Gotta be a good reason with the family situation.

I was thinking more the quality of play.
Agree we need to add more depth .
Having Hollis, Gus,Felter, Needham, etc. returning is a solid base.
This is where depth matter more than almost anywhere.
Tell me where the day 1 starters are and their 2 deep up to 8.

Well our game 1 starters were; Dunlap, Needham, Gus Z, Asamoah, and Pierce. By Game 3 Felter, Ireland Brown, Taj, and Missouri all saw OL action. And eventually Sutton . Depth was there … this group will be better and deeper in ‘24.

More good news with Wes Bailey returning.
Did Melton say if he'd play in the bowl game or not?

A concern for me with KM back. Sam Brown would be going into his third year knowing that he's not going to be the #1 back again. Does he explore joining Fran, the guy who recruited him, to 'Cuse?
If that's the way he looks at it there's nothing much you can do about it but it would have an impact on the RB room.

Sam should be back to pre-injury form next season. They both should have a big role on this team. Michigan, OSU, and PSU all manage to juggle two great backs

If he does leave then flip Yasim Willis.

I am sure Sam/Family have discussed this with him already- either see a portal move shortly or they value what he is getting here.

Awesome that we have a number of key players returning next year. Super exciting. With better QB play we might win a few extra games. We are fortunate that we have a good group of fans contributing to NIL helping make this happen. Without them other teams would have taken advantage and stolen our top guys. This is a great use of limited NIL resources!

Sadexcuse returns their starting running back from the past two seasons Laquintn Allen, so Sam would most likely be second string there, plus he would have to learn a new offense
