KUDOS again to Josh Heird. He has stepped into quagmire and seems to be showing some great signs of being a great Athletic Director. Today’s Press Conference had to a pressure cooker for him and he appeared to handle it very well. I think we have a keeper!

Sort of like the Kragthorpe hire or the Petrino buyout clause on Jurich’s resume. Doesn’t take away from the great things Jurich did. Heird’s handling of this situation was masterful.

I’m not so sure about that.
I’m not either. Most of us recognized Payne as a risky hire. (I called him a crap shoot.) In our financial situation, could we afford that risk? I don’t think so.

As far as K-rag’s hire, a couple counterpoints…

K-rag was far and away the exception as far as Jurich. Heird doesn’t have that track record yet. K-rag also had broad support as a promising head coach when U of L hired him. Payne had no resume as a head coach.

Now let’s discuss the circumstances around Brohm’s hire…

Was anyone proposing that Satterfield be given a raise and contract extension? And did anyone know if he didn’t get that, he would bolt?

Anyone understand that Brohm had to be talked into the job? Didn’t I hear this week that their family plan was always to get back to Louisville?

And didn’t we have to pay Brohm $6 million annually to land him?

I’m struggling to find the true accomplishment in Brohm’s hire. Understand, I’m grateful to get him and to do so more or less painlessly. But that doesn’t mean Heird is the guy I’m thanking. Truth be told, I don’t think he had much to do with the hire of either Brohm or Payne…
