anyone else bothered by the fact that our PA guy is working hard to copy one of the more lame traditions that ole miss has? I wish that they would let this one go, the gameday atomesphere has dramatically improved over the past 20 years, we dont need to cheese things up.

I am so gosh damn tired of the student section speeding up the "Maroon, White" cheer I could 17ing explode. If you sit on the West Side, you know what I'm talking about. it is so fast when we are starting to chant "Mississippi State, whoooo", they are done with the damn cheer. Listen to the band and keep on rhythm with them.

and its not because of sound travel in the stadium because its the same way in the Hump...its like everyone is in a hurry to say "damn right.".....its getting rather ridiculous...

"Thats another Arkansas Razorback" and then the fans holler "First Down" every freaking time they make one from start to finish. It is annoying as hell! Throw that in w/ calling the women or uh hogs and you have major annoyance.

Are they just bunching up "maroon-white"... no pause after maroon? The whole cheer kind of falls apart there at the end.

I'm ok with the "hail state". I don't say it but have no problem with it.

is really draining energy out of the crowd. I understand the revenue coming in but if we are driving down the field, force the opponent to call a timeout, have the crowd fired up and Bullock Toyota comes on really halts the crowd energy and overall energy of the stadium

Apparently our whole student section doesn't know how to keep a beat. They speed it up about twice as fast as its supposed to be, and the most amazing thing is that it seems to be totally exclusive to the students. <div>
</div><div>Everybody else in the stadium is doing it right, and the students have screwed it up for years now.</div>

I don't have a problem with our fans yelling "Hail State' after first downs. It's not that big of a deal to me. If everybody did it after a first down, then I think your opinion would be different.

I understand the Ford/State Farm/Chevron ads...but it is completely out of control - way too much advertising.

But the Marion, white....woo damn right cheer is the worst thing I have ever heard in my life and I refuse to to say it/ chant it.....

And that makes me cringe....

I'm in the section right next to the students. They are way too fast and it bleeds over to the staff section, too.

Look at it this way, with the way our offense has been against SEC teams, it would have only been said maybe 25 times all season to this point. </p>

and it is that bad. The west side stays pretty well with them, but the student section is done with the damn cheer before the cheer even gets to "WHOOO." You hear "Maroon!... then just a bunch of screaming after that. The band chants it out loud so they know when to play again or cut off because the crowd, particularly the students, are that bad.

1) Why can't we just do like UGA and have the PA guy announce the first down loudly with some intensity. That instinctively makes the crowd cheer. You don't need a gimmick.
2) You do need a gimmick for the commercials. If nothing else, make each commercial have some sort of fan interaction. Playing an orthopedic clinic commercial during a timeout leading to a big 3rd down play kills the crowd. What's next, a feline leukemia commercial with Sarah McLaughlin singing right before we kick a field goal?

and it's ever dumber that we're doing basically the exact same 17ing thing. I hate it.

Also as far as the speeding up the maroon-white-fightfightfight part, it's strange. I've only recently started sitting in some seats out of the students section, and it does sound pretty bad, but having been in the student section, you would never know. Everyone yells it so loud that you can't hear the band anyway.

The part where it's sped up is the "white-fight-fight-fight." The students don't add any pauses and finish the 3rd fight as the rest of the crowd hits the 1st one. The pause is there after the 3rd fight, and then "Mississippi" is once again rushed and said at 150% speed. I'm 90% sure the students don't know they're rushing it, and just assume the rest of the crowd is slow, or that it's the sound wave's travel time or an echo.

It's the hardest to decipher **** ever. About 2 second in it just sounds like random chatter. They give no effort to make it an understandable cohesive cheer/chant.

Not the biggest fan of it during football games (especially due to the timing issues) but I think it works really well at basketball games, especially how they coordinate it with tipoff and the band cutting out.

I'm glad we didn't start that against Bammer. Since we only had a few first downs it would have been anti-climatic. Maybe we could just yell "Hail State" each time Carmon jumps off sides.

The only time it's ever been remotely entertaining is when done in a mocking fashion during the Egg Bowl. I recall our fans yelling out a "Gooooo State" after a 1st down to mock the "Oleeee Miss" that they do.

Other than that, it makes me cringe when we chant something after 1st down. If "hail state" hasn't made its way into the game day vernacular since the origination of "hail state" back in the '30s, there's probably a reason for that. There is no reason to force it on us now. Traditions and customs aren't forced...they just happen over time.

This was started by our athletic director. One of the first news letters of the season strickland asked for the fans to do this.

I sit in the upper deck student section (702). You can watch, or listen, to the student section in the endzone (maybe even the lower deck east side section, but I can't see it). They screw up the whole chant. The upper deck student section is doing it correctly, along with every other section in the stadium up until the end where we all get screwed up because of the student section.

Something is going to have to give. Either the rest of the stadium needs to unnaturally speed up to the students, or the student section needs to slow it down to the normal speed. The correct choice is obvious.

I'm surprised this hasn't become a bigger issue, because the chant is totally 17ed every game.

before the play to get the crowd pumped?** ****, by the time anybody knows what song is coming on they are snapping the damn ball and the song vanishes. Last year the music kept the crowd and players into the flow of the game and pumped up. This year is like I'm sitting on my 17ing couch with 55k other people waiting for the commercials to go off and the game to come back on! If I wanted to do that I'd stay home and sit on my ***. Piss poor use of the godzillatron this year.
