Maybe I do it to myself by getting on this board. But it is hard to be a fan when people throw a fit about the game tonight. If any of you thought we would win, you are crazy. The boys played respectable, held Alabama to their lowest point total of the year, and you still complain. I've been a critic of the team, don't get me wrong. But, they are finally showing progress and you still complain. Most of you must be tons younger than me. You talk about "rebuilding" when we've never "built". We are making progress. You want a "big name" coach. We've hire them. They don't win here. Our team has sucked forever. Let the process work. You make up stuff about our coach trying to get him fired. Let's let him coach and not worry about bs that fans make up. I realize that message board fans are the real crazy into fans different than most, including me, but you people make it hard. I'm sure I'm going to get blasted, called a UL troll, because that is what we do. We turn on our own. That might be why we can't build a program. New OC every year. New HC every 4 years. Let it play out people.

There is no process here that most fans can see. That's the problem. Year 4, losing to a CUSA team at home. Probably cost the team a bowl bid. Next year's schedule is even harder, probably not going to a bowl then either. So some fans would just like to see this team actually win 6 measley games and make a bowl game and show some PROGRESS for once.

Ah yes.....the words of our lazy AD again resurface. You see.....HC performance is an issue, but not nearly as big an issue as AD performance. Current HC (and by extension his performance) is the byproduct of AD incompetence. Bring a competent AD on board, and I believe we will find FB HC hires can be done properly......and yes a competent HC can be sought and signed. The idea that "no one" wants a seven figure salary to coach our team in the SEC is laughable and also sad. It is sad that our school and fanbase were sold such tripe, and the AD was allowed to remain. It is even more sad some appear to buy this pathetic notion.

You sir are out of your mind!! This D is light years better than 1st 3 games! Just exactly what do you want? That's the #1 team in the country man! They are #1 for a reason.....UK represented about as good as you can expect from the youngest team in the country! You Debbie Downers are retarded!

Bama has a true freshman playing at QB. Bama is bama but I don't think they will win the national title this year. Could very well drop 2 of their next four. UK played much better tonight but stop with the youngest team in the country crap as I don't think that's true at all. If stoops doesn't get 6 wins this year then time to move on, period, buyout or not. Mitch gave him the buyout so he can pony up the bill himself.

It's actually very true wether you want to believe it or not. UK is one of the youngest teams in the country, lost 7 of their 8 leading tacklers from last year. I mean I could provide the facts about how young the team is but doubt it would do much good.

Not a Stoops fan at all but they played better than I expected.
The defense has shown some improvement but they couldn't be worse than the first couple games.

A lot of pissing contest going on in many threads but truthfully I don't think anyone knows the answer how to make UK a contender.

You're right, continuity is our problem, not quality. We need to just sign Stoops to a lifetime extension, that'll fix his coaching.

Several have made the point that more should have been fired then Joker, and because that of failure it allowed the same old same old in the next hire. There's got to be a solution to the madness of having football success because it's happening all around us, just not to us.

Everybody knows BY NOW that Petrino was a for sure hit. And I was one of the ones advocating his hire, and got raked over the coals by everyone here.
The mistake of not hiring BP is water under the bridge now.

Your being a little dramatic when you say everyone here raked you over the coals.
There were many here that also wanted BP hired besides you.

Going forward who is on your next coach list?

There are plenty of options we could go after if we had an AD with the wherewithal to go after them. The guy hired Billy Gillispie after a 6 day vetting process, when he could have hired John Calipari, or frankly any other damn coach in the country he wanted. Instead he gave us that dumpster fire. With all Kentucky basketball has going for it he didnt even have the balls to be agressive enough to get a proven winner for that job. Hell...he outsourced it to a firm. We need an AD who can work the boosters for $ (cough Dwayne Peevy) not just make appearances and pretty speeches about Olympic sports.

I still have not figured out how or why so many blame the AD for this. Kentucky has been a hole forever in football. Our longest sustained success with with Brooks.

When Stoops was hired he was unanimously touted as being the right person. Go back and look at the revelry from this board. everyone was behind him. He came from a top notch program in FSU. He began recruiting like crazy, some of our best classes are from him.

Things are not working out so it becomes the AD's fault. Just plain silly if you ask me. If a player drops a pass after being highly touted is it the QB's fault.

Misplaced anger if you think about it.

Cal will be here until Brad graduates. Hopefully that will give him enough time to develop a rapport with Dwayne's replacement. MB certaibly isn't the reason Cal stays around. I think they're amicable from all reports but Dwayne is Cal's guy.

Until we find a young Calipari type football coach,we'll struggle. Got to be arecruiter , motivator, salesman, and adapt to the talent at hand. Not a lot of "smart" coaches out there though, unfortunately for us and you could add AD's, too!

Except that coach at Louisville..you have to wonder if Mitch wouldn't even give Petrino an interview the first time around what other good coaches with "moral issues" he has turned down..I have a feeling we'd be pretty shocked at some of the names that have been interested in the job during Mitch's tenure but were shot down or denied an interview

The only reason folks were against it was he was a former Louisville coach. Say what you will, but that is the true reason.

We can use his attitude, Arkansas, Atlanta to feel good, but the the real reason is he coached at Louisville.

There were many here that also wanted BP hired besides you.

I will continue to say Major Applewhite is who we should go after.
Coaching Accomplishments
• Major Applewhite was named offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Houston on Jan. 8, 2015.

• Applewhite, who has 13 years of coaching experience including seven as an offensive coordinator, has coached in 10 bowl games, four of which have been the New Year's Six variety including the 2010 BCS National Championship.

• In his first season at Houston, Applewhite led an offense that was one of three nationally to average over 235 yards per game in both rushing (235.8 yards per game) and passing (248.4 yards per game) as the Houston offense ranked 20th nationally in total offense with an average of 484.1 yards per game.

• The explosive Cougar attack ranked 10th nationally in scoring offense with an average of 40.4 points per game, an improvement of 47 spots from 2014 when it finished the year 57th nationally with an average of 29.8 points per game. Houston scored over 30 points in 12 games, over 40 points in six games and over 50 points in four games.
• Houston was led by the Earl Campbell Award winner - junior quarterback Greg Ward Jr., who was one of only two players nationally to rush for over 1,000 yards and throw for over 1,400 yards, finishing the regular season with 1,108 rushing yards and 2,828 passing yards. The junior broke 14 Houston or The American records in 2015 while tying three others.

• Applewhite arrived in Houston after seven years at Texas, his final four years as co-offensive coordinator after serving as assistant head coach his first three seasons. Position wise, Applewhite oversaw the program's running backs his first five seasons and the quarterbacks his final year.

• In 2013, despite losing starting QB David Ash for a majority of the season, Case McCoy stepped in and helped the Longhorns post a 7-2 Big 12 record that had them in position for the league title in the last game of the season under Applewhite's eye. The season pushed McCoy into the top 10 in career passing at UT with 3,689 yards, a list Ash ranks eighth on with 4,538. Overall, Applewhite guided the offense to an average 408.7 total yards, including 196.2 yards on the ground (No. 3 Big 12). It also set a UT single-game record with 715 total yards, including 359 on the ground and 356 in the air, against New Mexico State.

• During his time with the running backs at UT, Applewhite had success with Fozzy Whittaker, Chris Ogbonnaya, and Cody Johnson all having advanced to the NFL. In 2012, the running backs combined for nearly 2,000 rushing yards, including 701 by freshman Johnathan Gray who earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors. Joe Bergeron also posted 16 rushing TDs, which was second in the Big 12. Four backs rushed for more than 200 yards and the RBs combined for 836 receiving yards on 84 receptions.
• In 2011, Texas running backs combined for 2,300 yards and 23 touchdowns while adding 36 receptions for 285 yards. Four different backs recorded five or more rushing touchdowns and four players had over 300 rushing yards, led by Malcolm Brown (707 yards, 5 TD), who missed five games due to injury in 2012, and Bergeron (454 yards, 5 TD). Brown was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year by the Associated Press.

• In 2010, the running back corps combined for 1,396 rushing yards and 14 TDs, while catching 47 passes for 322 yards. During Applewhite's tenure, the current Texas RBs who have started at least one game in their careers fumbled only 12 times and lost only three. Of those 12, only four belonged to backs on the 2010 team and of those, only one was lost.

• The running backs rushed for 1,665 yards and 24 TDs in 2009. Newton, a redshirt freshman, emerged to lead the team in rushing, helping fill the void of Ogbonnaya, who was drafted by the St. Louis Rams. Newton combined with junior Vondrell McGee, Johnson and Whittaker, who each had at least 50 carries.

• In 2008, Applewhite guided a running backs unit that had to replace Jamaal Charles, who went to the NFL. Ogbonnaya, McGee, Whittaker and Johnson stepped in and combined to rush for 1,371 yards and 20 TDs, including 12 TDs by Johnson, which tied the UT freshman record. The group did not lose a fumble during the entire season and showed its versatility by combining for 65 receptions for 640 yards and three TDs, led by Ogbonnaya, who set the UT single-season record for receptions by a running back with 46. He also finished second on the single-season receiving yards list with 540. Ogbonnaya earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors and was named Second-Team Academic All-American.

• Applewhite returned to his alma mater after spending the 2007 season as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Alabama, where he was the youngest coordinator on the FBS level.

• In Applewhite's one year at Alabama, the Crimson Tide bounced back from a losing season in 2006 to post a 7-6 record under first-year coach Nick Saban. Under his guidance, Alabama improved its offensive output by nearly 40 yards per game (335.9 to 373.8) and increased its scoring from 22.9 points per game to 27.1. His offense generated 256 yards passing and 388 total yards to cap the year with a 30-24 win over Colorado in the Independence Bowl.

No one in the SEC would hire Petrino when we were looking for a coach, some of you forget that little fact. Four years worth of water have gone under that bridge,if we had done that the fallout from within the conference, let alone the negative national attention would have set Petrino back a couple of years before he ever coached a down here.

Stoops may not be the answer here, the rest of this season will tell us that in no uncertain terms.I would submit that this is the year to pull the plug if it is to be pulled. We have a chance to play around .500 ball next year, maybe Stoops gets enough done this season to get a chance next year,if he does not when is the last time a first year coach showed up at UK and went .500 or better.

If there is a new coach on the sidelines coming soon I hope the administration has the good sense to give him a fighting chance to succeed from day one instead of starting another 3 or 4 year process.

His offense generated 256 yards passing and 388 total yards to cap the year with a 30-24 win over Colorado in the Independence Bowl.

Excellent credentials!
So why would this guy come to UK?

I see/read a lot of we could get this coach. but there are no guarantees. Who would have been better than Stoops. He came with accolades, he was an up and coming coach.

As for Calipari, we all know why he was passed over. There is no reason to pretend otherwise.

I would guess Mike Leach would certainly be one at the top..

Hit dog syndrome. Barnhart threw a rock when Joker was here and now they're yelping. The truth hurts.
Yes sirree. When he was named coach in waiting, it seemed everyone was so happy. It will be a continuation of what Brooks was doing. Fans were ecstatic. Homegrown player, UK in his blood.

It did not work out

I still have not figured out how or why so many blame the AD for this. Kentucky has been a hole forever in football. Our longest sustained success with with Brooks.

When Stoops was hired he was unanimously touted as being the right person. Go back and look at the revelry from this board. everyone was behind him. He came from a top notch program in FSU. He began recruiting like crazy, some of our best classes are from him.

Things are not working out so it becomes the AD's fault. Just plain silly if you ask me. If a player drops a pass after being highly touted is it the QB's fault.

Misplaced anger if you think about it.
Everyone was behind him because they thought he could bring success to the program because of his pedigree and reputation as a defenseive coach at FSU.No one knew he would be another John Ray,or Bill Curry II and put such a sorry performing team on the field three years and counting.

I agree. My point is so many are blaming the AD for something we all thought was a good decision.

We cannot tell someone good job let's do this. And then when it turns out bad criticize the decision maker we all agreed with. I guess we should fire ourselves as fans.

Let's take that a step farther,Joker set us back near the stone age, along came Stoops and he goes 2-10 not much more could have been expected but then he goes 5-7 and we are "just getting started bro" but he doesn't build off that.We see him make questionable game decisions and piss away a bowl season at Vandy last year, fast forward to this season and we probably do the same thing in the Sou Miss game.

We were happy about Joker for about 1/2 a season,we were happy with Stoops for 2 seasons, that is probably the max lifespan of fan satisfaction with a coach here at UK

Blame the AD, you see something wrong with that? Throughout the threads on this forum are people blaming decades of incompetence and frustration with this football program on AD's. So now it is not the AD, got it.
