I usually don't post on this board, but I thought I would chime in this topic. When using either an electric razor or a conventional razor with cream I break out on my neck since I am OCD about getting a close shave.
As a frequent listener of Howard Stern, I try out some of the tips he often provides to his followers. Recently, he commented that he never uses shaving cream (just water) and NEVER has to change his razor and yet, not only gets a close shave, but has never cut himself. I have been shaving now for a few weeks trying out his method and he was spot on with the tip. I typically use just an ordinary Gillette double bladed razor (nothing fancy) and was surprised by the results.
I have not been doing this long enough to comment on the validity of Howard's claim, that one will never have to change the razor using this method. But it does seem like the blade stays sharp longer, as I have not had to change it yet (it's only been a couple of weeks). Still, I must say that never having to change the blade again seems like a far-fetched notion, to say the least. So take it for what it's worth, but it works for me.
