Doubt all you want. You find it funny that the county fought tooth and nail to the bitter end to preserve a proud tradition? You find it funny once all options were exhausted that everyone wouldn't jump on board and support the high school and community? Maybe the fine folks at Albemarle would benefit from the same dedication that West Montgomery fans have and support their team regardless of their record. Never forget, you take away the Gaster years and Albemarle is no better a program than South Davidson or Chatham Central. What he did was great. It's legal now. It wasn't then. You know it and every body else in North Carolina knows it. A less than mediocre school all of sudden becomes a power house. Then, all of a sudden they return to less than mediocre once again. Sorry you have sour grapes. Not a very good look for you.
Probably should not have used "funny" to describe this. "Surprising" or "Disappointing."
Let me make it clear, I have major respect for the West Montgomery program and personally know many of the ones that have been a part of the success. I apologize to the good people of West Montgomery for using "funny." I do not wish bad will especially on young people. With that said and since the way you decided to roll...
"Sour?" You have the wrong guy. In Albemarle's best years I would see a few games at most and that is because I attend the state title games although 1A/1AA title games have never been my priority. I have seen West Montgomery play more than Albemarle the last several years. I am not a fan of one team. I am a fan of the game. I go to see the best teams and best players play and to support my friends that coach. I have been to games from Wilmington to Robbinsville seeing every classification this season.
"Surprising" or "Disappointing" that you would dump the proud tradition so quickly get off what some "fans" have called a sinking ship. You can spin it however you wish. Guaranteed if West was rolling to another title game (or a very strong season with a nice playoff run) you would be continuing to scorn at any thought of Montgomery Central and especially combining West with East before the new school even opens.
"All options?" Many in Montgomery County even West Montgomery supporters questioned people that were pushing for a charter school. Many felt the push was not what was positive for future generations but what "you" wanted for West Montgomery.
"Illegal?" "Sour?" Albemarle has five state title trophies and two Western NCHSAA trophies in their trophy case. Good for them. They are listed in the record books as state champions. I was not a player or coach or even attended many of their games. What do I have to be "sour" about now? I did not gloat in their victories.
