Buddy of mine said that he was delayed getting into LAX because they issued a 1 hr ground delay at points of departure for all inbound flights.
I’d imagine it entirely depends on your destination

We don’t pay much attention to any news stuff for the most part but I hear it on the radio commuting to and from work. My daughter pays zero attention to it we brought them up that way. She flew from GTR to Palm Beach the other day and I asked if there were any issues in Atlanta, she said no. On the way back Sunday Palm beach was heavily delayed, she sent a text and said so what is this shutdown thing?

Flying today to San Antonio for work. No issues getting through security, but I'm flying out of a smaller regional airport.

If you fly in or out of Houston's IAH . . . have fun. Like many things in that city, IAH is a cluster-17 right now.

George Bush in Houston had security lines of 4+ hours the other day. Cancelled my work trip to Salt Lake this week because of it.

My wife is one of the USDOJ employees who are still working and going without pay. She books travel for the AUSA's and said flight cancelations out of Jaxkson hasn't been a big issue this far.

Why wouldn't the airlines pay these people and get their money back when the employees get their "back pay" from the gubmint.

Out of curiosity, what are the consequences if they refuse to work? I mean, I guess one or two weeks knowing you're going to get back pay is not the biggest deal. Stupid, but it's still a pretty minor tradeoff compared to the increased job security (at least historically). But at a month in, if a worker is just like, "I'll answer emails and phone calls when I can, but I'm going to drive Uber to get some cash until I start getting paid again", is that really a fireable offense?

Not sure why we can't have privatized air traffic control like those communists in Canada**

(I have no clue how theirs works; just that it is at least nominally private).

If I heard it right this morning, 80% of the air traffic controllers in the NYC area airports were out. That would be a huge mess if true.

About as cool as giving illegals healthcare
I have read that Medicaid, Medicare, and the ACA marketplace are not accessible to people who are in the US illegally.
I have read that people who are in the US illegally(and legally) do receive EMTALA(immediate emergency care).

Is the government shut down because Democrats are trying to give illegals healthcare?
Google AI, for what that is worth, confirms that Democrats are not trying to change long time law. Google AI says the issue is over people who are legally in the US.

Can you provide legitimate information that supports your claim or shows how Google AI's response is incorrect?

Well, calling "DACA" recipients something other than illegal aliens is questionable. They are "lawfully present" in the sense that they are protected by "Deferred Action", (the "DA" of "DACA"), but the action being deferred is the legal action that would normally result from them being illegal aliens.

But also, it's leaving out the kind of relevant fact that the "ACA premium tax credits" they are wanting to extend are the "temporary" additional subsidies passed as part of "COVID" legislation. ACA plans will still be subsidized as it was before COVID. The problem is that the ACA more or less took all the problems of our health care (mainly we want all the healthcare that other people's money can buy with no constraints) and doubled down on them, so the plans are still crazy expensive, even with the subsidies. But even that's not really the problem. The problem is that democrats are beholden to a radical wing of their party, and they are demanding a shutdown. It's not really different than when the tea party was shutting down the government, except they at least had the argument that they were arguing against an obviously self destructive path, where as the current shutdown proponents are wanting to accelerate us down an obviously self destructive path.

She will not get paid at all. You have non-essential furloughed who are getting paid and not working at all basically getting a free vacation. She is classified as an essential worker and still has to do her regular job every day 5 days a week 8:00 to 5:00. Eventually she will get paid. That's the only saving grace.

I appreciate you taking time to respond and listing your reasoning for why it is bad that the Democrats want to extend ACA subsidies.

What you say is the reason for Democrats holding out, and your analysis of why it is bad, is different from the reason that I initially questioned. Your reasoning is very m a cost based reason.
Just want to make sure that is clear.

And I could get behind cost being a concern, if I didnt simultaneously see insane spending after insane spending taking place. That, to me, is very unserious and inconsistent.

You're more confident than I am. I don't see a R winning in the close important ones. Maybe maybe maybe New Jersey. Holding the country hostage over such a complicated and time consuming issue like health care policy sure sounds like a ****** thing to do, but I know there is another portion of the country that just refuses to see reality. Problem for them is that this group of Republicans won't cave. They have finally learned.

Well, unless Trump tells them to. Which won't happen.

Well, maybe she will be eventually paid. Or maybe she will be taken care of in a different way.

For the most part, we're going to take care of our people. There are some people that really don't deserve to be taken care of, and we will take care of them in a different way, OK?
