What's wrong with them, don't they know if they want a game at 6AM (or midnight) on a Sunday all they have to do is call jurich?

Geez, a Thursday game is easy, and he doesn't even have to wipe out high school football attendance on a Friday night.
Unless UK is sure or afraid folks won't show they should do this!!!

hard to make everyone happy, buncha people ***** because games were scheduled at nights on Saturdays by all the TV networks and was completely out of UK's hands. holiday weekend, this would free up fans to go to the lake/beach/trip Sat/Sun/Mon. Also capture the student body population before they empty the campus for the 3 day weekend.

Vandy and SC play each other on Thursday Sept 1st and Old Miss plays FSU on Monday Sept. 5th. The other 11 SEC teams open on Saturday, September 3rd and that includes 6 pretty big cross conference games (AL @ USC, Clemson @ AU, GA v. NC in Atlanta, LSU v. WI at Lambeau Field, MO @ WVA and UCLA @ aTm.). UK vs USM is no better than #7 on the SEC interest meter for Saturday. I am not sure how the TV deals prioritize all this but 11 games on Saturday is a bunch. In the past a "Tier 3" game was pretty much televised independently by the school but I think all Tier 3 rights had to be given to the SEC Network.

Regardless it seems like there might be a bigger audience by moving off Saturday but I'm not sure UK will look at it from that perspective. As discussed in another thread a win here is very important and I'm pretty sure UK would not trade off a shred of "home field advantage" (i.e., a move to Thursday, Friday or Monday) for better TV exposure. JMO.

Peace

Not a fan of the Thursday game but I get it from UK's perspective. Just like UL playing whenever ESPN would snap their fingers. It's exposure you aren't normally going to get. It's a slight inconvenience bc it means probably taking 2 days off I wasn't planning on at the beginning of the year. However, I was pleasantly surprised logistically how well UK handled things last year for Auburn. Felt like a normal Saturday.

I think Kentucky could really benefit by playing a pretty decent contender on the opening Thursday. Make it one of the first games and people will want to tune in from across the country because they want to watch college football. On that Saturday mostly on UK and Southern Miss fans are going to tune in. If you put UK against West Virginia on the opening Thursday then I bet a lot of people will tune in to watch that. Especially, if UK comes out and plays a pretty good brand of football for a couple years. People will tune in to watch a fun UK team and we'll gain more fans and the eye of more recruits. I think USC did this and has played a lot of Thursday night games over the past several years and I think it really helped their brand. It might be a pain in the butt for some fans, but if we put out a good football team then it won't matter what day they play on, the fans will be lined up to watch it.

By a WIDE margin college football is the most watched college sport in America which angers many on this site, but it is past time KENTUCKY got on board and competed!!!

Given the TV $ situation, I think that's quite obvious regardless of anyone's emotions on the subject.

Or better still make it an SEC game. We don't need tougher OOC teams.

I agree, UK & the city of Lexington did an awesome job on last years Thurs game
And, of course, it was discussed here many, many times about how Lexington and UK simply could not handle a Thursday night game. [winking]

That is definitely something we could do as well. Either way, it would be good to play a team on that first day that had a bit of hype to it rather than playing an OOC team that we should beat and that other people really won't want to watch.

UK fans made fun of UofL for playing on Thursday, and other non Saturday games to get on national tv. But honestly it was the smart move to get your name out there. Basically it is what landed us in the ACC beside still being stuck on the outside looking in. As the above poster mentioned it's hard to compete with those other P5 cross conference match ups opening weekend. A college football game in Lambeau will be an amazing scene. The amount of money college basketball brings in is change compared to college football.

Yes, that probably did help rescue UL from oblivion.

But a bigger factor was assembling a staff with the least morals of any in the country, and that motley crew includes jurich, just win baby.

And of course maybe the biggest factor was hiring probably the biggest cheater in the history of recruiting and standing by him (No, I can't recruit at TU without my buddy, no, I won't fire him although you have almost made it mandatory, no, I don't care what kind of crimes or drug problems our recruits have, we can save them, no, ---------

How did BP escape Arkansas with no charges filed while one of UK's heroes went to prison (reminds me a bit of the eight THUGS at TU not even getting a parking ticket), how did Slick Rick get away with sending the woman to prison when he committed adultery AND arranged the abortion for the gullible woman and keep his job (hint, jurich), how did jurich justify QUADRUPLING BP's salary when no other legitimate program would even hire him, plus the million dollar buyout, WKU made money off his one year salary (hint, I think maybe it was in BP's contract that BP VOLUNTARILY contribute a significant part of that salary to charity to improve his image), why has BP's recruiting improved so much when he didn't recruit well at a state University in the SEC at Arkansas coming off TWO top bowl wins AND with a $400,000,000 athletics facilities improvement already started (hint, many troubled athletes now find Transfer U to be a safe haven)-------

Lots of questions about how jurich (Willie will be a fine citizen in Louisville and the state of Kentucky, is he still sending him lobsters in prison?) maneuvered UL into the athletic success they now enjoy------

The academic success? -------who cares, just win baby.

What crimes did Pitino or Petrino actually commit? I'm sure nobody on this board has cheated on their wife before, but that still isn't enough to get you sent to prison. Are you referring to Farmer as the UK hero, surely your not questioning why he went to prison are you?

Back to the topic at hand, I think UK should take the Thursday game and get exposure to the program IMO

I have always thought the leaders of our young people should have some moral principles, not flaunt that you can do anything you want if you have enough money. Did Petrino misuse University funds at Arkansas or not, and isn't misusing public funds one of the things that got Farmer in trouble?

Besides, if it were one thing at UL it would be understandable, but the whole program under jurich is a cesspool.

How is the Minardi Hall investigation going, I understand that UL "voluntarily" added scholarship reductions and recruiting restrictions lately. That after already throwing the present team and the transfers they talked into joining them under the bus.

Shouldn't you be holding your breath that the NCAA doesn't go back and look at the hurtt recruiting era? But with the incompetent NCAA in charge it shouldn't be a problem------but you never really know, do you? Someone has to pay for North Carolina cheating for decades.

I like how somehow you turned this thread into a thread about UofL athletics.

If any crimes are committed I trust those in charge will bring charges against those ppl who committed crimes. If any NCAA rules are broke I leave that to those in charge. Nah not holding my breath, life will go on one way or another, and I choose to not worry about those things I can't control.

As for Pitino I didn't like him at UK and don't like him now. He's a hell of a coach and glad we have him put personally I could careless for the man.

If I remember right I think they played every night of the week at sometime

Yes that was the point I was trying to make about the topic. UofL played ever night of the week and helped our program. UK is in the SEC they really dont need the exposure, but it will help playing a different day than those other games IMO

Didn't ul play on Tuesday and Wednesday nights?
Yep. We made fun of them for playing the Tulane and Army's On Tuesday's in front of about 20,000 fans on national TV, LOL. The whole country was pointing and laughing. Thursday night games have been a College Football tradition for years.

Enough about Louisville, would love to see the UK-USM game on Thursday. This would give UK some national exposure, and would free up the Labor day weekend.
On another note, anyone see the Sports Illustrated reporter, who is also a talk show host, on the Finebaum show on Friday ? Andy is the 1st name, don't remember his last name, anyway he said he thinks the Florida-UK game the 2nd weekend of the season, will be on CBS.

Hoping for a night opener because of the heat then 330 cbs games the rest of the season! Six cbs 330 games would mean we've had a good year. Lol
Like night games in Sept-Oct then take the 3:30 games:football:[banana][banana]:clap:
