If Himon and Komo both play in the bowl game we can beat anybody.
There are five data points this season that would contradict this statement?

That said, I do think we should win our bowl game for three reasons:
1) We are playing another 6 win team. Our opponent will likely not be very good, either.
2) We are likely to have fewer sit-outs than our opponent as our draft prospects are slim and we have less transfer turnover than other schools.
3) In general I think many programs don’t really put a lot into bowl wins. Unless it’s a marquee bowl game, most schools mail it in. The Cats are always try hards in these games.

Nonsense post. What are the 5 data points that contradict my statement. You list nothing but the 3 reasons we should win!

So, not that we’re actually as good or better than the team we’re playing but because we take bowl games more seriously than other teams and our opponent isn’t very good(like us) and we will also have less players sitting out because the opponent will have more NFL guys(even though they’re not very good). Got it.

We lost five games. Counterpoint to “we can beat anyone with those two healthy” I’m throwing out the Illinois game since we had neither guy.

Those aren’t the only three reasons. But they are three reasons for optimism in our bowl game this year.

And I didn’t say our opponent would be loaded with NFL draft picks. Just that we’d have less sitouts due to BOTH our lack of NFL prospects AND our typically low transfer turnover. We retain higher than the average. Usually guys who are transferring leave before the bowl game.

Uh, no. I was talking about the bowl game, where we will not be playing the Michigans and Oregons of the world. In terms of our bowl game, we can beat anyone if Himon and Komo are healthy. Do you disagree?

Actually there are 6 as we have lost 6 games (or 5 because as Catmando suggests only 5 were with the two RBs)

Of course it depends on who we play. All I said is if both Komo and Himon play we CAN beat anybody. If neither or only one of them plays, it will be tough to win. It will also be tough to win if we turn it over 5 times, regardless of which running backs are available to play.

You said " If both Komo and Himon play we can beat anybody" That does not sound like you intended it to be conditional depending on who we play.

You need to polish up your reading skills. If both Himon and Komo play we CAN beat anybody as evidenced by the Michigan and Penn State games. However, the tougher the opponent, the odds are less likely that we will win. We might win and we might not depending on other factors like turnovers, allowing explosion plays, poor special teams play etc. You know this as well as I do. My point is that if both Komo and Himon play, we CAN beat anybody, but if neither can play the likelihood of a loss goes way up.

PSU was not the PSU team of old and neither is Mich (while we came close, it was with a +5 turnover margin). And they are not dOSU or Oregon. or Georgia or a number of other top programs

So what, you're still making no sense. If you don't believe that NU can beat anyone we play in our bowl game if Himon and Komo play just say so. Otherwise, you need to give it a rest. We are not going to play OSU, Oregon, Georgia or any other highly ranked teams in our bowl game.

That is not what you said. You sated with both of them we could beat ANYBODY and that is not true. Anybody we might play might be possible but that is not what you said

He said “if Himon and Komo both play in the bowl game we can beat anybody.” It seems very clear to me that that sentence structure means anybody we play in our bowl game. It doesn’t have to be that obtuse. We know what caliber of team we might play in Detroit or perhaps Arizona and none of those teams are unbeatable above the level of talent of the PSU team we beat or the Michigan team we had beat until the last 2 seconds, the Minnesota team we beat, or the Illinois team that was ranked like the whole year who we were down to the last possession despite being on our 5th string RB.
