He seems like someone we would have a chance to get. We have no chance to get some of the other available coaches- I mean, look at our history.
I think he would be a good hire for us.He seems like someone we would have a chance to get. We have no chance to get some of the other available coaches- I mean, look at our history.
Very good choice. I mentioned him yesterday in the first comment in the Jerimiah Doneti thread. He seems like someone we would have a chance to get. We have no chance to get some of the other available coaches- I mean, look at our history.
Would Beamer restructure his contract to free up $$ for a top notch OC?Keep Shane - get the best OC available willing to come here and pony up.
I'm willing to give SB a chance if he will hire a proficient OC.Keep Shane - get the best OC available willing to come here and pony up.
He's had 5 years. He's had a chance. Three of them in fact.I'm willing to give SB a chance if he will hire a proficient OC.
The odds of getting him might be fading by now. With so many openings, and several more on the horizon, Alex Golesh will be in heavy demand. If we were serious about him, and we suffer more embarrassing losses in the following 2 weeks, we could claim the firing was necessitated in order to move in a more positive direction. At which point a full court press commences for the services of Mr. Golesh.
What are the odds of that happening ?
Hoping for "the best OC available willing to come here" is not an encouraging thought.Keep Shane - get the best OC available willing to come here and pony up.
Clemson got the OC we would have loved to have and he hasn’t done much. Got to get players.Keep Shane - get the best OC available willing to come here and pony up.
I am resigned to that. I'm not sure he has the ability to identify one or convince one to come here.I'm willing to give SB a chance if he will hire a proficient OC.
Very relevant point. For his next hire, he needs a COLLEGE coach. His #1 priority with his previous three hires has been coaches with NFL experience. He needs to disregard that. He's had 5 years. He's had a chance. Three of them in fact.
I may be mis-remembering, but didn't Louisville run him off over some sort of scandal over whether he had or would interview with us before we hired Beamer?Obviously, I like Golesh and mentioned him the other day. But I agree that the chances of us getting him when Beamer is eventually fired are fading. But another name I have mentioned and one to really keep an eye on is Scott Satterfield, a native of the state of North Carolina. He has won everywhere he has been. As a player he was a QB, WR and RB. He has been an offensive coordinator. Based on Donati's hiring of a Head Coach when he was at TCU, Satterfield fits the profile of who he would hire: a veteran, offensive-minded coach and a winner. He runs a balanced offense that is currently ranked 29th in the nation. He is at the University of Cincinnati which is ranked 21st in the nation. I'm pulling for Beamer and want him to succeed. But he does not have the maturity, judgment and emotional stability that winners possess. I don't see him making it past next season. Just like Sam Pittman at Arkansas, hired one year before Shane, he had no Head Coaching experience and no collegiate OC/DC experience either. Arkansas' experiment failed. I see ours failing as well. Maybe you can pull off such a gamble in a weak conference like the ACC. But in the SEC, you will get exposed.
Keep an eye on Scott Satterfield.
I don't recall about his leaving Louisville. If it was because he was interested in us, then, no harm, as far as I'm concerned. I agree that his overall record at Louisville was not great. But he did produce 3 bowl teams out of 4 there. At Cincinnati, in 3 years , they have progressively gotten better: 3 wins, 5 wins and now 6-1. And at App State, he won 3 conference championships.I may be mis-remembering, but didn't Louisville run him off over some sort of scandal over whether he had or would interview with us before we hired Beamer?
His overall record at Louisville and now Cincinnati is not that impressive.
25-24 and 14-17. (granted, he is 6-1 this year)
Brohm would definitely be the type of coach to pursue. However, he's currently coaching at his alma mater and doing well. That would be a tough sell to come to Columbia.I don't recall about his leaving Louisville. If it was because he was interested in us, then, no harm, as far as I'm concerned. You mention Louisville. Their current coach Jeff Brohm also fits the profile of who Donati might be interested in.
Yes, that is why I did not mention him in the beginning. But Satterfield can be gotten. He has improved UC each year there to number 21 in the nation this year. He produced 3 bowl teams at Louisville and won conference championships at App. State. The man produces. If people are looking for someone perfect, you end up disappointed. But if a guy produces at every stop, you can do a lot worse, and we have. I got fooled by the way we finished last year. But I realize now that Sellers athleticism masked our deficiencies on offense. But now starting with last year's bowl game, teams have figured out how to defense Sellers. Game Over!!!Brohm would definitely be the type of coach to pursue. After reading about both, I think I would rather have Satterfield. His concepts (dual QB) seem to match our talent better.Yes, that is why I did not mention him in the beginning. Look at our defense. We are 41 out of 134 teams. That's good. In 2 of Clayton White's previous years here, his defense was evidently good enough for him to be nominated for the Broyles Award as the top assistant in the nation. He was hired from Western Kentucky, where as Defensive Coordinator, he produced Top 50 defenses. Why has not Beamer followed that route when hiring Offensive Coordinators by going after a proven OC from a lower level program? WTH, it's Beamer's program. I hope his way wins.Maybe we could lure Brad Glenn away from Cincy as OC. He coached under Elliott at Georgia State. Just don't stick him with our assistants. Let him bring whomever he wants as OL coach, WR coach, TE coach and RB coach.
Good question. Loggains was a decent hire. But with all the successful OCs out there he could have interviewed he took the lazy way and promoted an analyst. That I will never understand.Look at our defense. We are 41 out of 134 teams. That's good. In a second. A young coach with an exciting offense that doesn't want to make you vomit. Unfortunately for us, bigger and better schools might find him first. He seems like someone we would have a chance to get. We have no chance to get some of the other available coaches- I mean, look at our history.
No. He was always in over his head. If his name wasn't Beamer he'd never have gotten a chance.I'm willing to give SB a chance if he will hire a proficient OC.
Up until just 3 years ago, it was mostly about recruiting. That is no longer the case. You still have to recruit, but also work the transfer portal, while keeping in mind one's own yearly attrition to the portal will be 10-12 players.Everyone talks all this crap about beamer, but he also hire Clayton White, which was great.
Clemson hired the offensive guy that many people here wanted, and he's done nothing. Many of you wanted Herman before..... Look what happened to him. And who was the other guy out west that people were gushing over? That dude ended up being a joke too.
Everyone railed him for hiring Loggains, and he turned out to be correct on him also. He was decent.
I think it is just really tough to tell who will pan out. It's about hitting the right guys at the right time I guess. As soon as they're successful, they are hired away, so does it even matter?
I think it's mostly about recruiting.
That’s a big f..king IF. And where do we stand if he doesn’t ??I'm willing to give SB a chance if he will hire a proficient OC.
Exactly where we are now. That’s a big f..king IF. And where do we stand if he doesn’t ??
He has made 3 beyond baffling hires at OC.Everyone talks all this crap about beamer, but he also hire Clayton White, which was great.
