How does everyone feel about our recruiting class as it stands right now?

Comparitively I think it's going to end up being better than last years class I think. I think this class will end up being deeper than last year and the year before. I know not everyone he cares about stars, but in the last 2 classes, we have signed a combined total of 20 2 star recruits. This year we have only 4 so far, and I think Holloway and maybeKivon Comanwill end up as 3 stars before it's all over. I've always thought the problem with our classes atMSU wasn't with the top talent in each class, but the quality of talent from top to bottom of the class. I thinkthis years class so far has some quality depth.

I also think with as much talent as we have left on the board that we are chasing, that we will round out the last 5 to 7 spots of this class with some good talent. I don't think we sign a bunch of 2 stars to fill scholarships like we did 2 years ago. I think we can get guys like Gaines or Hill, one or possiblly both of the Browns, maybe Jefferson or Autry, and hopefully aready to startJUCO OL. Anyone else feel anywhere close to as optimistic as I do?

that we finish with Quay and B. Brown... and I'd be happy with that.

Throw in Hill, the NM OT, Autry, R. Brown, or Kimbrow and I'd be very pleased. Give me two of those 5 and I'd be ecstatic.

and because he hasn't comitted to them yet. He could go to Bama if he wanted too... and it's a no-brainer decision when comparing us and them. But apparently, we seems to have something that he likes (Chris Wilson).

at any rate we need to break out the Juicy Jumbos if we have to to get Quay. And we have to have a competent offensive tackle in this class. Get those two and I'd be a lot more impressed with our recruiting ability. The current class as it stands right now is nothing to write home about.

10 commits. There are too many good players on the board that we have a chance to land to be worried about numbers.

I would love to see us sign: Dylan Holley, Daniel Glauser, and Denico Autry from Juco. Then Quay Evans, Richie Brown, Beniquez Brown, and Brandon Hill from High School.

Channing Ward, Andrew Jelks, Brian Kimbrow, and Anthony Alford may be leaning to other schools but all have expressed interest in officially visiting MSU. You need to get these guys to the Egg Bowl to try and swing momentum. Numbers are tight, but you have to give it your best shot with this kind of talent and then make tough decisions if necessary.

From top to bottom, it looks like a pretty solid class and definitely looks better than last year's. The only thing missing is a big time recruit that could come in and probably contribute immediately. Like many others, I would be happy if Quay Evans turns out to be that guy. Also, throw in a quality juco LT, and I'd be pleased with this class.

I still don't think westand a chance with Ward, and after seeing him play a few times in person, I think we'd be fine.

If you're satisfied with that every year along with an outside shot at the Gator or Outback bowls, then there's nothing in the world wrong with this class. If you're expecting this program to get to the next level, then these classes just aren't good enough. I would love nothing more than for Mullen to prove that he and his staff can win a bunch of games by coaching these guys up, but I've yet to see that they can.

I will say that I'm extremely happy that we've been in a position for the last couple years to redshirt the majority of our incoming freshmen, but I still feel like our ceiling is fairly low by SEC standards. Until we see some vast improvements in recruiting, a season like last year will be our best case scenario for the foreseeable future.

get real. He's a upper 4 star without a bunch of clout. He wants to play for a winning program and immediate playing time isn't a big factor for him. He'll prolly getthe100 dollar handshakes like all SEC players get.

We HAVE to winconsistentlywith 3 star talent FIRST. No way around it. The morans who the the reverse will happen aredelusional. We are NOT going to get 4 and 5 star talent, then start winning. <div>

I think we'll still be in good shape with our assistants this year, as we haven't made as much noise as we did last year, combined with the fact that Wilson flies under the radar as opposed to Diaz's flamboyant style. Still though, it'd be our luck for somebody to pop up at the last second in January and try to pry Wilson away.

And after the *** chewing that Wilson got on Saturday (deserved or not, Mullen still showed him up in front of everyone), I have to wonder if Wilson enjoys working with Dan and whether or not he would want to stay if he did get another offer.

for us, right now, making a Liberty Bowl caliber bowl EVERY year with a shot at making a Gator and Outback type bowl with a few breaks IS the next level. Yes, we all WANT to be relevant in college football but we have had two, yes TWO winning seasons in the last 10 years and we all know 2007 was somewhat of a fluke with the defense scoring about as many points as our offense. We've got to crawl before we walk and walk before we run. Mullen understands that even if he does spout publicly goals of winning SEC championships. Last year we had a few breaks go our way with 4 NFL caliber seniors on the team and we got to 8 wins plus the bowl. But it didn't mean our program had automatically arrived. And I'm certainly not giddy over this class nor am I all that enthused with Mullen's recruiting overall (its just not his strong suit) but I do think this class, if it ends up along the lines we think it will, and we learned last year not to presume anything until the ink is dry, will be good enough to keep building the program with. I will also be the first to agree that if Mullen and staff WERE better recruiters that it would accelerate the development of our program because then a lot of these guys we are having to wait on to be RS Sophomores and Juniors to be solid SEC contributors would be doing that as RS Freshmen and Sophomores.

I just unfortunately think that those who feel that we'll be able to win consistently with 3 star talent are delusional as well. We showed last year that 8-4 is possible, but that was done by two powerhouse programs being severely down, an Egg Bowl win, and pulling out a couple nailbiters like UAB. It's just not realistic to have that happen every year, and I think the reality is that we're looking at somewhere around 6-6 to 7-5 every year until something gives.

So if we're not going to win big and we're apparently not going to "play the game", then I guess that leads me back to a comment I made a couple weeks ago. I think that MSU fans better learn to be happy with simply getting to a bowl game most years because that's about all I see right now.

where apparently our defensive staff made the decision to leave our shortest cornerback on SC's tallest and best receiver while our 6'2 corner (Banks) was left on the other side of the field. Wasn't much of a competition on the jump ball.

While I'm not a big fan of signing a lot of JUCO players,I'd like for us to at least be able to find 1 or 2 immediate impact type guys each year. We've normally had good success with them... I'd say 2 out of 3 become starters for us. Last year we only signed 1 that appears to be any good (Slay) and this year we have none committed.

Didn't Mullen himself say that the state's JUCO systemwould be a big help in building a team that could compete in the SEC? Idon't thinksigning 1 impact player in 2 years is really helping us that much. I hope we're not letting any Chris Whites or Vick Ballards slip through.

Overall I'm pleased with the class. If James & Evans are both here come next August then I'll say it was a success. If we could also manage to add Ward and Brown - this would be an unbelievably good defensive class for us. Would really let us focus on offensive players next year.</p>

Can someone doa projection for the final ratings of our current commits....list the guys likely to get bumped up a star, guys just flat out flying under the radar, etc.?</p>

Mullen has taken us to another level. Simply making it to the postseason every year with a shot at a mid-tier bowl game is a worthy goal at this point for the team.

I've already mentioned in a previous post that I don't think we're going anywhere above the current state with classes like these. However, I also don't think that simply doing what we're currently doing every year on the field is going to result in much better recruiting. Whether we win 4 games or 7, there are still going to be a slew of SEC teams with more resources that had better seasons than us. I hope I'm wrong, but I'll say again that we're either going to be happy with what we've got or the staff is going to have to to get more creative to land at least some of these big names. If they don't, then I don't see us getting past where we are any time soon.
