He will follow in the foot steps of Les Miles. He is setting records but they are the wrong records

The Texas AD said he's evaluating EVERYTHING, and won't fire Strong until the end of the year.........:flushed:

Shouldn't have been hired to begin with. Bad fit. For a program like Texas, they should've been able to make a much better hire. Saban wasn't coming. Should've went after Petrino, Briles, Richt, or Schiano, or someone along those lines. Chollie made a name for himself against weak competition.

Texas probably has the richest boosters in college football. The word is he is not popular with them.He is toast

Richt, Briles and Petrino would be great hires. Schiano would also win there, but the other three would elevate the program to a Bama / Ohio State level with the resources available.

T Boone Pickens anteed up half a billion dollars at OK State by himself. What have the Pokes done? Gundy might be shown the door too. Call it return on investment.

I wonder if he regrets leaving Louisville? He was already a millionaire, and look at where Texas is right now and look at where UL is.

He is getting exactly what he deserves. He won at UL because his staff cheated to get players and he was in a joke conference. I will say his defense has been stellar- he has only given up 50 points a game the last couple of games.

Good point, money is not always the answer. The benefit in having very wealthy donors is when your AD makes a ridiculous stupid contract deal with your head coach (MB and Stoops) and the buyout is obscene, they can bail you out. At Texas or Oklahoma State that is not an issue. I am not sure Kentucky can say the same

Always an overrated hc. Won with bought players, mainly Bridgewater. Average otherwise.

Texas really whiffed on that hire. Really wish he'd stayed at ul. Never a threat to make them great. Would've been mostly mediocre, with occasional good season. Perfect for UK.

Petrino is exactly the opposite

Yep. I questioned why Texas would hire a guy who comes across as extremely introverted and somewhat socially aloof. It's not just about coaching skills. At a school like Texas, you got to have the personality to enjoy being on such a big stage. For that reason alone, it seemed like a questionable hire from the beginning.

I wonder how LSU Is feeling right now? They fired Miles pretty much on the assumption that they would land Herman. Now I'd assume he takes the Texas job when it opens.

Richt will retire at Miami. He's in the perfect situation right now. Week division with more talent than anyone else in the division by a lot. Richt will win at least one national title at Miami before he hangs it up. And I'm not even big on the guy as a coach.

If Texas is at the point of winning at all costs Art Briles is a complete no brainer. Texas is in that guy's blood and with UT resources he would have that program humming in short order.

Thank you. Hordes of Texas Exes agree with you. In fact, they didn't want Charlie in the first place.

Oklahoma St history states that they have a .513 win percentage overall......and that's with Gundy's record factored in. Gundy averages about 9 wins a yr.....has OSU on the national radar.....and has them consistently in/out the top 25. If Gundy's is shown the door it will be related to the ill-relationship that T. Boone and Gundy have rather than the performance.

The problem with these guys is they see what you see, great program, easy recruiting, etc. Generally though the state of the program.has a lot to do with the coach. Spurrier and Meyer had Florida humming. Everyone else has had them at 8-4. Mack Brown did really well at Texas, but that's the only time they have been top 5 for the last 30 years. Same with Stoops at OU. They hadn't been any good since Switzer when he was hired. Georgia is going to learn this lesson the hard way. Oklahoma will too if the fire Stoops. Why someone would leave Louisville where you can make the same.money and have way more support from.the administration and way less pressure from.the fans doesn't make any sense to me.

Back to Texas....they talked about it on sat radio today. Said that the chatter around the Texas boosters is that they already have a guy that is the consensus pick to replace Strong. One of the biggest boosters is a guy that's Texas' equivalent of T Boone said that although they would like to wai till the end of the yr he thinks it's silly not to fire someone mid season if the writing's on the wall.

The guy they have picked out is a young stud.....who although is not from Texas, he absolutely loves the state.....and has coached in Texas 6 of the 8 coaching stops he's been a part of.

It appears Charlie understands his fate has been decided and he is on borrowed time. Demoting his DC will not save him. He better buy some boxes and start packing

Hint of racism to that post maybe...

Yep, that is what I thought as well, Charlie Strong was interviewed at UK by MB when Brooks was hired, was going to bring Joker and Chris Hatcher with him, so I heard, but was passed over because he "needed seasoning" according to our infallible AD. Then went to Louisville where he . . . well you know the rest of the story.

So why wouldn't there be at least some passing interest in his career path on this board? As for Sumlin, last coach at Texas A&M I was interested in was Bear Bryant.

You can stay there for awhile and lose often as Mac Brown did the last years of his contract. Mac was in tight with the boosters, Administration, wife was realtor galore in Austin area. Well liked, fired Manny Diaz as DC to save his butt. Mac was a politician and white.

Charlie Strong is black, wife is white, took over bad situation, good ole boys who one was owner of the Minnesota Vikings said at time of hire he was not Texas caliber, really, never met him, never coached a game. Yeah I would say Texas and this situation has a tinge of some racism. I am white but you would be hard pressed to not say Charlie Strong has been given a smaller leash. No way anyone will make believe that Strong has been looked down by boosters and fans by Texas. Throw in the mess Mac left, and all the other stuff. The extramarital affair at UL did not help. Charlie is not a schmoozer or a diplomat ala Mac Brown, Mac won the boosters, alumni groups in the Summer. He lost 3-5 games a year for quite a few years.

Mac Brown had terrible roster that was getting rolled by TCU and others, no QB for years.
