I Doubt Strong Lasts The Week

Yep, that is what I thought as well, Charlie Strong was interviewed at UK by MB when Brooks was hired, was going to bring Joker and Chris Hatcher with him, so I heard, but was passed over because he "needed seasoning" according to our infallible AD. Then went to Louisville where he . . . well you know the rest of the story.

So why wouldn't there be at least some passing interest in his career path on this board? As for Sumlin, last coach at Texas A&M I was interested in was Bear Bryant.
There is no racism involved in Charlie Strong's tenure at Texas. That was discussed at length in the Texas media. There are few, if any, head coaches regardless of their success that satisfy the hugely wealthy and influential Texas Exes (alumni). The job is difficult on many levels, but measured most by how the Horns win against OU and the hated Aggies. While the Aggies are a non issue at the moment, every native son or daughter of Texas want that rivalry restored.

Right. BS. There is racism involved if the main booster for Texas who is in San Antonio says he is not a Texas caliber coach, I mean the first few weeks out. Are You serious? I am in Dallas and Texas and Austin all the time. I can assure you that Strong is not well liked and there are more comments than x and o's . Don't be so naïve. Charlie is not Mac Brown that can work a room and boosters, he has been given the treatment since he's been there.

You can stay there for awhile and lose often as Mac Brown did the last years of his contract. Mac was in tight with the boosters, Administration, wife was realtor galore in Austin area. Well liked, fired Manny Diaz as DC to save his butt. Mac was a politician and white.

Charlie Strong is black, wife is white, took over bad situation, good ole boys who one was owner of the Minnesota Vikings said at time of hire he was not Texas caliber, really, never met him, never coached a game. Yeah I would say Texas and this situation has a tinge of some racism. I am white but you would be hard pressed to not say Charlie Strong has been given a smaller leash. No way anyone will make believe that Strong has been looked down by boosters and fans by Texas. Throw in the mess Mac left, and all the other stuff. The extramarital affair at UL did not help. Charlie is not a schmoozer or a diplomat ala Mac Brown, Mac won the boosters, alumni groups in the Summer. He lost 3-5 games a year for quite a few years.

Mac Brown had terrible roster that was getting rolled by TCU and others, no QB for years.
There is truth in your comments. The gentleman you refer to as the owner of the Minnesota Vikings is B.J. (Red) McCombs, an 85 years old multi billionaire car dealer, sports owner, philanthropist, ex-alcoholic and major benefactor to the University of Texas. It is true Mr. McCombs was not in favor of hiring Charlie Strong. He did his due diligence on Charlie and was not pleased. But, Texas decline was due to the ill begotten Longhorn Network that split the Big 12 into today's anarchy. Texas can buy any coach in the country. However, a diliuted conference and travesty of the Longhorn Network make the head football coaching job difficult to fill. Charlie Strong took the challenge almost by default. He had no chance.

I will not disagree. I am simply addressing a politically correct assessment. Red McCombs was only one of many boosters that would make Carol Gatton's fortune look like pocket change. Since you brought up the matter, Charlie is one of many who displeased the financial backers at Texas. At the end of the day, only Mac Brown walked the walk and talked the talk that made him sound like and act like Darrell Royal.

Pretty much sums up what Tejas boosters and fans felt from day one of bringing in Strong....

Texas will back up the Brinks truck to Herman's house and make it impossible for him to say no, but it wont be till the end of the season. I don't see Strong getting fired after the OU game, it's not like OU is lighting the world on fire.

Just so you two know, Tskware was replying to my post which was in reference to this post:

This board is strangely obsessed with Strong and Sumlin being fired.

Had nothing to do with Strong and Texas.

If the axe has already been dropped, I hope Texas wins out & finishes 10-2. Charlie calls a press conference, tells all those JR Ewings to go to hell, drops the mic, and walks off with his $10MM.

Not realistic, but that would be awesome. This was a bad fit from the beginning. Some other program will benefit greatly by this parting.

If I am Sumlin, I am putting my name in the LSU hat. Sometimes you can only be at a spot for so long before it becomes dry.

You have said this before and I could definitley see it happen.

I'm assuming a lot brian...that Strong gets fired, that Brohm takes a P5 job and that Strong would even be interested in the WK job and that WK would be interested in him. Still lots of football to be played.
