I have much respect for him. I had the Catholic Church forced on me by my mother from ages 7-14 and hated every minute of it. It just seemed like a bunch of rules with no sincerity behind it. This guy speaks the truth and probably a truth that a lot of us rich American Christians don't want to hear. I'm surprised someone this outspoken and plainspoken was ever allowed into the office.

Francis is waaaaaay too liberal for the Catholics on this board. You can't have your pope running around apologizing to people, no matter how egregious the sin. Who needed the Incas, anyway?

And poor people? My God, all he wants to talk about are poor people, old people, sick people. Telling people to attract newcomers to the Church by living a Gospel life, not by proselytizing. The nerve! What about ******? Jesus still hates gays, doesn't he? Get back on point, Francis.

And he better lay his Holy hands off capitalism. "Dung of the Devil," indeed. I'll tell you what, we can cancel your visa and put you on the No-Fly list so fast it'll make your head spin. And what's the deal with stopping in Cuba on your way to the U.S. this fall? You better learn to get your priorities straight!

This was all sarcasm. I'll throw a few Hail Mary's if you want me to.

I'm Catholic, and I think he is awesome.

I know you were being sarcastic, but I know some of my fellow American Catholics that are feeling that comfortable with things he is saying.

You mean some American Catholics are not comfortable with some things, don't you?

I like him, too. I know that's no comfort to Catholics.

A lot of what he has said and done draws this atheist's approval. It's almost like he's actually read the Bible and decided that Christians should put the actual teachings of Christ into practice.

Marshal,

I have no problem with his, or the Catholic Church's stands on either issue.

Doesn't mean that I have to agree that the GOVERNMENT has the right to play a role in such matters. A lot of people do things in a "free" country that I don't agree with, but that's the price we pay for living in a free country.

Yes. Thank you. That's exactly what I meant.

Still waiting on brt's take.

Should be entertaining.
