Can you imagine the battle not only on the field, but in the press between Bobby and Saban? If Bobby came in and beat Saban you would have to believe he would let it be known that he was the new king of the SEC. Two type A personalities going at it year after year for the SEC crown...don't know if it could get much better than that!

I don't think Petrino is leaving Louisville anytime soon. Jurich put a 10 Million Dollar buyout in Petrino's contract.

LSU could probably easily pay off that $10 million buyout if they wanted him bad enough. Lots of hungry football backers down there that want to be in the chase for a national title every year.

He isn't in the top 3, maybe not in top 5 for the fans pick. Number 1 is of course Herman, Briles is number 2, if Coach O were to beat Bama and OM, he gets the job.

As for as Petrino, He might be the number 2 guy for SoCal if Herman doesn't come there and they fire Helton. WIth LSU, maybe Texas and SoCal looking for coaches come December Herman may pass Saban as highest paid coach.

Hell we're talking about buying out Stoops for that much. I don't think LSU would blink at that. That being said, I think they go after Houston's coach.

Put on top of that the $13 million buyout he has and paying a new coach around $5 million/year and over the course of 4 years, you're paying about $43 million for a football coach.

No way I'd take Briles over Petrino. That is just silly IMO.

Would be the same deal with Petrino and Auburn, if Auburn gets rid of Malzahn which is still a possibility with Arkansas, Ole Miss, Georgia and Alabama still left on the schedule.

They'd just raise the price of corndogs in the stadium to fund it. Should have it paid in full by week 2 of the season.

If Petrino were to end up at LSU, whoo, that would be very interesting. Don't like him but he can flat coach, and if he was at a place like LSU getting all the talent they get, man, he would tough to handle.

Can't remember a year recently when schools like LSU, Texas, SoCal, Auburn and possibly even Texas A&M would be looking for coaches. Would make for an extremely competitive market.

I doubt LSU would go after him. Because I heard every SEC AD agreed not to hire him.

If you are talking football, what has Petrino done that Briles hasn't? Briles has at least been co-champion of a P5 conference, Bobby hasn't. If you are talking off field issues what has Briles been proven guilty of? LSU isn't rolling in the dough like many here seem to think, the governor even threaten to suspend LSU football because of budget shortfalls, wouldn't have happened, but he did threaten it, they already have to pay Les off, paying the buyout for Petrino plus salary would cost around 25 mil, that isn't cheap, '
'
Now if its proven Briles was concealing rapes committed by his players that's a whole different story, but until then a coach who can build a program like he has shown he can, not once, but twice will be able to find a job. Last year, he turned his team from running a scarey passing attack to having a WR at qb and rushing for almost 700 yards in their bowl game. To my knowledge, Petrino is 0 for his career against Bama, Les was better than that.

Ummm, no.

Both guys are extremely confident, type A football personalities but neither is bragadocious windbag. They both let the results on the field speak for itself.

Bobby got into a fight with a UK assistant coach before our game....I think he does more than let his team's play speak for its self. Bobby always has that smug expression when asked about certain teams and coaches and does not care to let it be known when he feels his team is the better team.

Ummm, are you talking about the game where a number of UK players (I believe led by rs-FR Barker) crossed over into the Cards side of the warmup field and started something? I've never really noticed the behavior you suggest but I suppose it is one of those "eye of the beholder" things.

the former LSU AD said last week that everyone at the school remembers Petrino when he tried to get hired for the job in 2005 (when Miles was hired), and was HIGHLY unimpressive in his interviews. Auburn would be a school to keep your eye on, if they fire Gus & miss out on Herman & Briles to other locations, they have shown they are desperate enough to reach down low. And he has past history there, yet another place he chased a job while UL was playing his salary.

UL would not hire Charlie Strong, worst kept secret in town is that he & Jurich could not stand each other in the end, they barely spoke most of his last 2 seasons there. Jurich was resentful that Strong had the nerve to do what every other UL coach before him did, chase better jobs. He thought being the first AD to actually give him a head coaching job that Strong ought to have been different & more appreciative. Never ever forget the blasting Strong gave the UL program & UL fanbase as he was leaving, saying they did not even approach the dedication & loyalty as the UK one.

Brohm would be the call....hell, there are many who suspect UL is playing Brohm already under the table via their crooked corrupt "Foundation" to keep him at WKU and make him not interested in any job who might approach him. Heard somewhere that Brohm doesnt even have an agent, that is how disengaged he is from any pursuit of his next job, he knows it is already done.

Miles buyout is about $13 million. It was stated earlier in the thread that UofL's pricetag for another school to buy out Petrino's contract was $10 million.

I didn't think it was possible for my opinion of Mitch Barnhart to get any worse, but I was wrong.

Petrino is already tough to handle at Louisville. He was tough to handle at Arkansas. Heck he was tough at WKU.

Not sure it really matters where he is, he can coach with the best.

Sorry coach. We know you win every where you coach, but you are a poor interview. Next please.

That was 2005, just sayin...NOT TO MENTION, it is the former AD and not the current one that said that. It's been 11 years, there's a new AD in Baton Rouge and unlike in 2005, LSU will be pursuing Petrino and not the other way around, because iirc, Petrino "shopped" himself to LSU and Auburn back in 2005 or so because it has always been his goal to retire an SEC head coach. That is why he took the Arkansas job without even finishing out the season in Atlanta. He didn't know if another opportunity would arise and even shopped himself to Kentucky just to get back in the SEC. If LSU or Auburn comes calling, the man is gone, likely to LSU first, but Auburn would be an interesting situation too.

Trust me...UL fans act like the man has suddenly grown a conscience or integrity or something, but the guy would jump on the next plane to Baton Rouge if they dangled a carrot in front of him.

True, but LSU is on a different level than those schools IMO. I believe I saw a graph that LSU currently has more players in the NFL than any other school. You give Petrino that type of talent and it will be something to see.

I agree. With the talent he could pull at LSU, I do not know if any team could hold him down. He can win at Louisville, Arkansas, WKU and Louisville again, imagine if he was at LSU.

Not to mention Bobby isn't going anywhere. He's not leaving the city of Louisville.
This ^^^. The only way he leaves in the future is if he feels like he can't sustain the recruiting at a high enough level to compete at the highest level without a Lamar Jackson.

I think he's very content where he is right now but even Bobby knows 75% of what he's got going now is Lamar Jackson and he's gone in another year.

Intellectual dishonesty on your part...regardless of "who started it" (is this 5th grade?), Petrino got into a fight with a UK assistant. Not exactly a "let my results speak for myself" low key kind of guy.

I hope Petrino does go to LSU. Saban has his way in our conference. I think Petrino would give him fits at LSU. Imo, Petrino is the best college coach in the game right now. He may be a scumbag and sounds like he don't interview well, but the dude can flat out coach up a team. I guarantee if we had got Petrino instead of Stoops, we would be a much better football team than we are right now. This is coming from someone that can't stand Louisville.
