Sweet jesus...maybe OP is thinking if like, Les Miles came here for a 100k salary that LSU would continue to pay the difference in their buyout. I.E., we get a coach being paid 12 million dollars, but we only pay 100k.
lol that's a good shot rationalizing. Eve if Miles came here with a buy out from LSU he would get the money but not us.maybe OP is thinking if like, Les Miles came here for a 100k salary that LSU would continue to pay the difference in their buyout. But either way the answer is probably no.

The answer would depend on Miles's contract. As I understand Stoop's contract we are obligated to pay him even if he does find another job. Don't know about Miles's contract. It's also my understanding that UK's contracts with the assistant coaches do have an offset if they find another job.
yeah, on top of that, I doubt Miles (or anyone) would come here on a reduced salary just to spite their former school. Anyone good enough doesn't need to take that route, anyone pulling that trick probably isn't good enough to bother with.
Actually it fairly common. Usually in the form of a contract that pays a token salary for the years of the buyout and then a big jump after. Say a five year contract with a salary of 100K for the first three years and then over market the last two.
That's generally a clause in assistant coaches coaches contracts since they are much more likely to be let go.The answer would depend on Miles's contract. Under no circumstance would another school foot the bill. We pay whatever full salary we agreed to in their contract. In the case of our assistants, say we agreed to pay them $200k a year, if we fire them and they het another job making $150k a year, we owe them $50k to make up the difference, the other school pays that coach the full $150k that they agreed to.Definitely more common with HCs who go to be coordinators. It'd be nice to have another school have to foot the bill, but I don't think it'll happen.
I in no way believe miles is being considered or will ever be considered for the job. Just no way. You're not going to win at UK with strong stout shut it down defense's. In fact with or without miles we won't be getting the quantity of players to have that kind of depth here anyways. We need a coach who can put up a ton of points, and also has a pretty good defense. Les doesn't fit the profile and regardless of how terrible Mitch Barnhart is and how he was dumb enough to hire stoops AND give him extension AND retain him after poor play. I don't think he's THAT terrible to where he would hire Miles. But then again, he hired a much worse HC in Stoops and also gave that much worse HC a very undeserved extension. So who knows.I am surprised UK would consider Les. His offense is why he was fired, his qb play has been bad for years and doesn't fit what UK has recruited to run the last 4 years. But the big thing is, even with LSU talent, number 2 in the SEC, his teams seldom played at that level.
