If We Win Our Next Three and Go Bowling...

Will we still have belly-achers who want to be negative 24/7 and say that Stoops cannot get it done? IF....and I mean IF...we go on to win the next three and go bowling then I think we can safely assume that Stoops has grown as a coach and taking over the defense was the difference maker. I want Stoops to succeed because the man seems to bleed blue and would be the type to stick with our program even if the big boys came calling. In another thread a poster gave numerous examples of how individual players have improved since arriving under Stoops or Joker through Stoops tenure, but for some reason we have not seen it as a team.

Our defense has improved every single half under Stoops the last 3 games and I hope to see it continue.

If Gran can get Johnson even more comfortable running the read option offense then we have a great shot at winning our next three games, so lets get behind this team and show up in full force to cheer them on during this home stint.

IF we go 1-2 or 0-3 then I will admit that my expectations of Stoops were too much and I was wrong in thinking he had the ability to get it done.

Only question is can all of the negative Nancy's admit they are wrong if the opposite happens?
With all respect we switched to Fedex

Stoops was not who I would have selected as the coach to pull us out of the dumpster Joker and Barney had put us in. But once he was selected I tried to get behind him. His first three years were disappointing to say the least. This season we already have three losses and could very well lose six out of our remaining seven games to close at 3 and 9. Thanks to Barney he will most likely get a fifth year where Stoops has a decent chance to get six wins and a bowl game. Louisville has proven a team from Kentucky can win big. Things will not get much better at UK until the school leaders begin to take college football serious and hire a coach who is a proven winner and who can win with less, because we will always have less talent than most SEC teams. Six wins this season is possible, but not probable. Another season where we will be abused by the Cards and where we will not go bowling. At least I am getting use to it.

Not sure why you brought NMSU into your argument. The fact that defense has improved drastically since that first half only undermines your point. Or not. Can't really tell what the point of the first few sentences is.

I honestly think Stoops is finally learning that being too attached to your friends is a good way to get fired and run a program into the ground. I am expecting changes this off-season that may lead to us killing it with a more experienced roster next year.

The point of bringing up the NMSU game was leading up to that game he indicated he was going to get more involved in the defense and apparently his involvement for the first half at least was non-existent and arguably the worst defense we have seen this year. 2nd half was much better, bama game was even better. Is that a result of changes, or an abberition, the next few weeks will tell. It has taken 3 plus years for the heat to build up on him to this point so not ready to say all is well after 6 good defensive quarters, especially to your last point if he was putting friendships over the betterment of the program. I whole heartedly agree with you on that!!!!

Trouble is three wins won't make us bowl eligible.

The late season meltdowns the past couple of years are nightmare stuff.....and after losing to Southern Miss and the shootout with New Mexico State I don't automatically count Austin Peay as A win, either.

your point with the first half makes sense. Majority of the fans know stoops said before that game that he was calling the defense and he called the first half of that game. He made adjustments the second half but their is a factor that people are leaving out of the equation. The receiver that torched our defensive backs the first half didn't play in the second half.
I think the defense has looked better though. I just hope the improvement carries over and Isn't false hope. I wanna see this team go bowling this year. Would be good for the team and our fans.

The thing about this thread that pisses me off, is that it insinuates that people who are fed up with how things have gone up to this point, actually DON'T WANT Stoops to succeed.

OF COURSE we ALL want our team to succeed!!!

If by some chance this team gets to a bowl, it'll be because Stoops has figured things out and has coached his *** off!!

It'll also prove that there isn't a team divide like some have feared...

It will mean that the future is bright and we're on an upward trajectory as a program!!

HELL YEAH!!!!

If Stoops turns this season around and gets us to a bowl, I will ABSOLUTELY admit that I WAS WRONG and be thrilled to death to admit it!!!

It doesn't matter how many he wins, someone is always gonna throw S.Miss in there and say we should have won one more than we have won.

The first half was definitely the worst defense I've seen at UK in a while. However, I really want to attribute that to players getting used to the calls or Stoops getting back into the rhythm of being that guy or a mix of the two. Especially since it seems like we're improving in that area. Like you said, time will tell if it is a permanent fix.

One safe prediction is that if we beat Vandy Saturday, the pumpers will compare Stoops to Jesus Christ, Stonewall Jackson, and Vlad Tepes

Who's Vlad Tepes?

No sunshine pumping from me if we win on Saturday. A win over Vandy just pacifies the fan base until the next must-win game against State on 10/22.

Yeah, APSU is far worse than the Charlotte team we played last season. They are winless in FCS. You may bring up EKU last season, but EKU had a winning record in FCS and competes for their conference year in and out. APSU could be a 70 point win.

If that were the case, some will never want to admit they were wrong about Stoops and will continue to argue to protect their point of view. What the rest of us have to do is just apply the common sense filter to those kinds of messages

Kind of reminds of Brooks situation. He didn't want to fire Hudson - was forced to do so in reality. Then we see things start to turn around. Of course that was not the only thing - but if Stoops is no dummy - which I don't believe he is - he actually could be on the brink of getting it done and securing his long term future at UK with a great fan support. But, if he doesn't finish strong (ala Brooks in his fourth year) then we probably should be looking for a new coach. Stoops totally controls his destiny, not only for this year but for future years. He HAS to do something about the DC position next year. If he is as good of a friend as everyone thinks, then he will help Elliot get another opportunity somewhere.

Go Big Blue!

I'm with you OP. If we win 6 and get to some janky-*** bowl game, that will be a great achievement after our terrible start. I will support Stoops coming back if that happens. (as if it matters who I support)

If we don't get that done, it is time to look, or at least start the process of change for after next season if the buyout thing makes it impossible.

I have fever dreams of PJ Fleck in Lexington, but I am a biased WMU alum. Miles or Strong might be an option...

But 6 wins and a bowl was the bar I set (and a lot of us did) before the season, and I am going to stick with that. 6 and let's see if CMS can continue building our program and getting better. (with Gran and a new DC I would think)

I may be bad wrong, but I just can't see Stoops not having a big role in the defense up until NMSU. This is a man that meddles in the offensive scheme try and keep point totals down. USC junior got about their average on us and Bama played a backup running back and didn't look to throw much more than ten yards past the LOS. Fortunately Vandy offense is about like USC.

You guys are funny, I'm not sure where you get this info from, but you evidently believe if you post it enough it will be come fact.

I can assure you that you can count Austin Peay as an automatic win. We would be favorites by nearly 50 points per the computers. NMSU and EKU would be 25 point favorites over these guys. They went 0-11 last year- in FCS.

There have always been lots of bellyachers. There were lots of bellyachers when Coach Brooks was taking our team to bowls. There will always be lots of bellyachers. For some of these people, it has become a part of their identities. Without the joy of complaining, they wouldn't know what to do. So it has nothing to do with a bowl. And as I have said numerous times, Kentucky will win 4-5 games in 2016, followed by at least 7 wins in 2017.
