I still think Diaz will be great HC one day but my first choice would be Hudspeth.

Sonny Dykes
Mike Sumlin
Mark Hudspeth
Manny Diaz
Larry Fedora

Someone mentioned Kirby Smart. I'd leave that one alone. The only Saban coach who'sbeen worth a **** as a head coach is Dantonio at Michigan St. Nick Saban is the coordinator of that defense. Smart isn't much more than a glorified position coach.

or really ever even been considered for one, there's got to be a reason. I'd stay away from that one.

1) Hudspeth- Knows the program, and is a winner. He has experience, and he knows the area. I think it's a good fit all around, and I doubt anyone would disagree.

2) Sumlin- Might be a bit of a learning curve with him not being in the SEC before, but he's coached under Stoops as his OC, so he obviously has potential. He's turned Houston into a solid program, and it's pretty clear he can develop a QB.I think he will have to learn to run the ball more because you have to do that in the SEC, but I like what he brings to the table, and he was born in Alabama, so he's familiar with this area. I think he would be able to recruit well.

3) Gus Malzahn- I don't care how bad his offense has looked this year. Get this man a QB and he will win you football games. Our defense has never been able to figure him out, and ourdefense has been good the past two years. He has significant experience in the SEC, he's been at some good programs, and he runs a similar offense to the one we currently run. If you give him Dak Prescott, I think we can go places with him.

Not sure if Slive would **** his diaper though if we tried to steal Vandy's coach

I think Diaz needs a couple more years before he is ready to be a HC...I'll pass on Fedora

It's the only answer really. He's familiar with the program, the assistant coaches, the State, etc... He'd be able to hold our recruiting class together and possibly keep our Defensive Staff on board.

If (and I think it's a big if) Penn State sweet talks Mullen into taking over right now they are going to want to keep their Defensive staff. I think it's going to be a condition for any new coach. I actually think that may be a big sticking point for Mullen or any more reputable coach going there. I just can't see any new coach having free reign there to build the program how they want it to be. Joe Pa is still going to be lurking around, Jay Paterno will still be lurking around and if any of the old staff stays then you have that to deal with. How are they going to deal with coaches having to leave practice to give depositions or such?

I think they hire an up and comer fall guy for a year, or promote Bradley as a place holder for a year. Then let the new AD go 'tabula rasa' and start fresh. But maybe Mullen is just dead set on being the coach of the Nambla Lions, don't know. I'm burned out with the whole 'Mullen to X,Y,Z' just go if you are going to.

That offense is ELECTRIC. And he has studied under maybe the best offensive mind in college football, Bobby Petrino. Hes from the SEC. He understands what it takes to win here. He will be coachingin a BCS conference very soon.

No more Nutt
No more Mullen
No more Boone
Hire Hud before we could do it
Capital campaign

Here's to hoping Mullen hangs around, Boone hangs around, the capital campaign has a lot of bounced checks, and they over pay for a no name assistant.

I'd be down with McGee. I came away very impressed with him when I watched the Depth Chart: Arkansas show on ESPN.

He's an incredible coach and obviously a good recruiter. I think he would let an offensive guy do his thing and stay out of his way. He would have a team that plays a lot like VT - very aggressive, strong special teams, etc.

He doesn't have a head job because he wants one in a BCS conference. He's been pretty selective because he has a good gig in Blacksburg and is seen by most people as the heir apparent at VT.

I think he would be an awesome hire, if you could get him.

If things happen quickly enough, then I would think that Hud would be more inclined to take our job. Regardless of if this is his dream job or not, we can pay what they can pay and we have a lot more talent in place. The OM job is a trainwreck and will take rebuilding. We have the pieces in place to do no worse than 6-6 next year maybe even better.

Most folks in-the-know here at VT believe that Bryan Stinespring (even more so than Shane Beamer) would be the one guy currently on the staff that could possibly succeed Frank Beamer once he decides to hang it up. In fact, Shane Beamer is interviewing for the HC opening at Richmond.

While most of the fanbase reveres Foster as a DC, the typical response that I've gotten as to why Foster hasn't landed a head coaching gig by now is that he likes to party too much and supposedly enjoys the company of younger women.

The rumor going around up here today is that he may be in play for the Illinois job. Foster is originally from Kentucky but grew up and went to high school in central Illinois.

they have been turned down by a few people already- and he is going to be the "best of the rest"<div>
</div><div>Sandusky's scandal is going to be the only Mullen could have gotten the job this year- without that- PSU hires someone else higher on the list</div>

Hud @ ULaLa<div>Freeze @ ASU</div><div>Taggart @ WKU (7-5 this year after being possibly the worst D-I team ever a few years ago. Added benefit of endless 'Blazing Saddles' references)</div><div>and... Mario Cristobal @ FIU (They're actually 8-4, so might as well bring him on board, too. Name sounds made up if you ask me).</div><div>**</div>

McGee is sharp as a tack and would definitely help with some of the perceptions there.

</div><div>McGee would definitely be on my short list, but I am a Hud supporter. A Hud/Campbell package would be outstanding. </div>

I've heard the party rumors too - likes his cold beer at the lake (allegedly).

If Stinespring gets that job after Beamer...holy hell I will puke. That guy sucks. The offense has finally started to make strides this year since play calling duties were taken away from him.

Foster though is a great 17ing coach. VT has been decimated with injuries this year and that defense keeps plugging right along.

I'm not sold on Morris as Clemson has been in a free fall the last several weeks. Had Wake not choked away their game with Clemson a couple of weeks ago, Clemson would have lost four straight at this point. Morris's offense hasn't been very effective against NC State or South Carolina during their last two games.

I've got a feeling that VT and Bud Foster will have Morris's offense figured out the second time around this weekend.
