Is 8-4 Too Optimistic?

But the "reality" is we DID almost lose these games. You can say "If" and "But" all you want. I was just stating the facts. We were VERY lucky to win the EKU game.

I like how he calls the other scenario hogwash, but is totally fine with creating a scenario where presumably you have an entirely different team?

For the record, we have fans that do the same thing - always remember the close losses and magically turn those into wins, but never do the opposite. It's always ridiculous thinking.

People like this guy just need to go and head to the morgue already. I know some of your wives don't put out anymore so you have to come on here and take all your aggression out but don't try and ruin other people's excitement.

It's possible and probably close to too optimistic

4 wins.... Too pessimistic
5 wins.....and that's all we will ever be..... Too pessimistic
5 wins.... But we go bowling the next year.... Pessimistic but on board
6 wins.... Average
7 wins....somewhat optimistic
8 wins.... Optimistic
9 wins.... Whoa
10 wins.... You're nuttier than squirrel turds

6-6 at absolute best. 5-7 most likely. 4-8 isn't out of the realm either. 7-5 and definitely 8-4 is just ridiculously wishful thinking. Only the truest of homers have us going 8-4.

Just got done watching the video of the new facility and I am hyped for the session. That place is going to change things. Old Kentucky football is dead RIP, 1955 - 2016. Everything changes starting today. No more bad bounces. No more blown opportunities. We got the tools, and we got the talent.

Guys, I don't think we lose one game at home this season. When they step out of that facility and do a wildcat walk to the stadium, they can not lose. Georgia is the only one that would be an upset. And excuse me for not being afraid of a rookie former defensive coordinator not getting instructions from Nick Saban anymore. Add in Missouri and louisville. I see a nine win season.
I had to give you a thumbs up just for your enthusiastic attitude. I hope that our players feel the same way too.

So if we go 4-8. You will not be posting how bad this coaching staff is??
In other words if we only have talent to get 6 wins max, then if we dont make a bowl that would be acceptable.. Gotcha..

Eight wins is VERY optimistic------but not impossible, most of the breaks have to go our way, for a change.

What is just ridiculously wishful thinking is only winning four, not going to happen.

Prob 90% chance we are between 5-7 and 7-5. 6-6 most likely imo.

5% chance for the incredible 8-4.
5% chance we drop S Miss game and never recover and finish 4-8.

I've been listening to the so called "experts" and they say that Stoops is the most likely of all the SEC coaches to get fired after this year.

Optimistic, fine. Realistic, probably not.
Will reassess after the first game (which is a tough one if you're objective) but looking like another 5-7 campaign at this point. Tougher schedule and still too many unknowns on both offense and defense. Have to stretch a bit to find 4 guaranteed wins (think that the team may only be favored in 4 games). Doesn't mean that won't surpass expectations -- teams do it every year. Maybe this is UK's turn. Gotta grab all of those 'toss up' kind of games. Being realistic doesn't mean that can't hope for the best.
Only thing I can guarantee is that I'm not betting any games this year.

My money is on Hugh Freeze, given the recent discoveries in Oxford. He may not be fired for his on-field performance, but I think he is the next SEC coach to go. The folks at Auburn are also getting testy with Malzahn. Keep in mind Chizik was fired less than two years to the day he won a national championship. If Malzahn tanks this year his seat will be red hot.

They have the horses to stay on the field with almost every team we face this year, Bama being the one exception (thou strange things do happen occasionally) so I put no upper limit on what they can achieve this year. 6 is the floor.

If Kash, Landon, and Drake play, we can win 8. If they redshirt, it will be like last two years
You way to much confidence in freshmen. We play in the SEC and with normal progression a player is ready to contribute (in theb2 deep) by their 3rd year (RS So or Jr).
The SEC isn't Kentucky high shool football.

IMO, UK would have to be unimaginably bad (or get hit with NCAA violations) for that to happen. I believe it will cost ~$12M to buy him out after this year. That's pretty serious cash for a buyout.

Peace

Stoops will be the coach in 2017. The team will be loaded with juniors and seniors and Drew Barker will have a year of SEC experience. Kash, Landon, and Drake will be the unquestionable locker room leaders. I think 2017 to be one of the greatest football/basketball years for the Cats.

Drake prob RS this year. Kash and Landon may only get limited snaps this year. That wouldn't be a bad thing. It means we are finally building depth on this team. Other years those guys might have started from game 1.

Landon may have to play or he may be so good he forces them to play him. The other two guys situation is different.

Kash has Firios currently in front of him. Laster currently is second team behind Ware at Jack but Laster can play Inside as well and the coaches have said he might be better inside so the way I see it, Kash's RS depends on the Juco Bonner's ability to get on the field at Jack. If Bonner (or Bannerman who I hope can RS) can be a viable backup at Jack and then if Laster (or Firios) could be a viable backup at Mike then Kash should RS.

I don't see any way that Drake plays this year barring injuries ahead of him with Toth and Stallings being capable at the Center position.

Love the enthusiasm but I think you're rushing things by about a year.

Agree. Next year's team will be dominated by 4th and 5th year players, peppered with more talented younger guys. I think that is the year UK makes a splash.

then this years team will be dominated by 3rd and 4th yr players- that's not a young team and it should be very competitive imo!

Losses to Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida.
Why not (also) beat the Red Elephants, the Bull Dogs, the Vols & the Alligators (not just in hoops)

5-7 or 6-6

Not enough confidence in the OT, DLine, and QB to predict anything better. If those positions improve 10-20% from last season UK will be good enough to win 7. The key will be if they can find a way to beat one of these teams. UofL, UF, UGA, Miss St. Beating UF would elavate this program in a major way but they have to continue to capitalize on it throughout the season and not fall into another midseason slump.

Bama and UT (if Dobbs stays healthy) are just on a different level right now.

Thought I read his buyout was too big this year and maybe even next year to make 'firing' him a good economic decision.

The "way too early" projected S&P had us as 83rd nationally (up from 95th last year). That's good for last in the SEC and ahead of only New Mexico State on our FBS schedule (Austin Peay is FCS).

Saying we'll go 2-10 is a tad apocalyptic, and I don't think that will happen. FWIW, here's the projected S&P for whole schedule (the revised preseason S&P should come out pretty soon, would guess we're a little higher):

Southern Miss (72nd)
Florida (19th)
New Mexico State (117th)
South Carolina (63rd)
Alabama (1st)
Vanderbilt (69th)
Miss State (21st)
Missouri (47th)
Georgia (15th)
Tennessee (9th)
Austin Peay (N/A)
Louisville (20th)

If I had to guess today, I'd say 5 wins +/- 1, which would have us taking a pretty big jump forward from these projections (83rd) and last year (95th) and playing around the 50's-60's level this year.
