If you think Matt Jones doesn't strive for excellence, you don't pay attention to his show or everything else he does. Just by liking Tubby or Mark Stoops, or for hoping for 6 wins, doesn't mean he, or the rest of us don't strive for national championships. As far as football is concerned, people that say we are giving in by asking for six wins haven't been fans long. We have to start somewhere.
I listen to his show almost daily and like him and the show. I agree with 6 wins as a starting point. But the poster said that Matt stated a consistent 6 win program was our ceiling , I think we should hope for more. And please , let's not turn this into another Tubby debate. I liked Tubby just fine , but many of us thought we should be doing better. And we have been proven right.

Did cliff hagan have multi million dollar ESPN / SEC / NIKE deals that equate to the monstrous revenue of the current day? Hell no. Not even close.

Some of you are seriously ignorant to the modern day workings and revenue of this administration, and they love you for it.

Those guys worked their *** off trying to make uk something it couldn't be in a time with scarce resources. Don't compare apples and oranges and you might see through it.
It was during my time in school that UK signed its initial deal with Nike. One thing I remember about the switch to Nike was that Roger Harden was allowed to continue wearing Converse gear because his dad was, of all things, a Converse executive.

So the Nike money started flowing into the program back in the mid-80s, but it's done nothing but become a bigger pile of money. And now, of course, there's SEC Network money and other TV revenue streams, plus shared bowl revenue, NCAA tournament money, etc.

Basically I'm agreeing with you. Cliff Hagan was not a great FB AD by any stretch, but as you point out, he didn't have the financial resources available to him that Mitch does.

I just wish I had a boss that would give me a guaranteed employment contract through 2022 or whatever it is. I'm looking at you Eli Capaluoto.

UK was not officially Nike until 1997.

Athletic departments around the nation now have people on staff that patrol message boards and the like who try to control and spin the message. Barnhart has a loser's mentality, but he's not a complete fool, he controls the PR machine as well as any AD I've ever seen. He knows how blindly loyal we are and he continues to use it against us selling it to us as being "supportive" of the program, pointing to "next year", "recruiting rankings", the SEC is "too tough"..all of the usual cliches that we gobble up.

All he has to do as an AD is distract us and deflect until big blue madness starts..at that point he's in the clear for another year at the very least.

Two weeks ago we all wanted him gone, now we hardly mention his name. Every week we get closer to bball the seat gets cooler for him. It'll be the same thing year after year until he decides to step down or go on a mission trip in 2040.
The Soviets used to call this mind control of the useful idiots through propaganda.

Certainly not anything worth arguing about, but I definitely remember a shoe deal with Nike & UK in the mid-1980s. It may have been just limited to the men's BB team at the time, whereas the 1997 deal you refer to was probably the whole university athletic department.

That's fine. But uk didn't sign a Nike deal until the 90's.

or have we had about 5-6 brand new posters all over the top positive for this staff and AD lately?

Full disclosure - My stance the last 2 years has been that this is his year, I even defended CMS last year. (I've wanted MB gone since 2005 but...anyway)

Bowl game was mandatory this year.

After the awful start and the perceived improvements on the defensive side I have even given in to 5 wins and being competitive with UGA and UT.

Which is such a loser sorry *** mentality in year 4 but no sense going crazy because our AD will do it anyway.

So, I'm not for firing anyone today, I'm also not close to @merrimanm who was telling Custer he still had a chance as they were scalping his forehead..

I get the ones that want a change immediately and give the next a coach something to work with and I get those still optimistic seeing the defense come around and Gran being decent.

But these new posters....? Seriously, I'm going to go on record and say that Sandy Bell, Mitch, Susan Lax, and Tony Neely have all signed up this week to Baghdad Bob everyone.

Brian, I am totally with you here. Great post.

but...the whole dept is the FB program where the "big" money is...for what it worth "This basketball uniform design was worn at home by the Kentucky Wildcats during the 1996 season. The uniform was created by Converse" the DENIM look

Just out of curiosity, didn't Harden play in the 80s? I thought UK didn't become a Nike school until 98. I'm just wondering the timeline.
