How ironic it is that Hurd's mother was arrested at UF game earlier this year. Think that has anything to do with him wanting to transfer? Wasn't even an issue till today. Sorry if this has been mentioned in another thread. she was charged with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest.

I'm sure her assaulting an officer charge is directly tied to her resisting arrest charge. My question is why was she being arrested in the first place if the reason they arrested her is she resisted arrest? What am i missing?

I can't stand UT but are you sure this is true? I live 30 minutes from that family and there has been nothing about that down here.

In my opinion this shows some further proof of shadiness in Knoxville and in the reporting that goes on in Knoxville. This woman was arrested and charged for this over a month ago and yet it doesn't come out as news at all until her son decides to transfer from the football team. So either the media knew about this offense and chose to keep it quiet so as not to embarrass the Tennessee football player or the team knew about it and really didn't even release it or let it slip through the cracks until after Hurd quit the football team.

i'm not sure it is true.. I saw it on WATE TV in Knoxville. May not be true but they reported it on the 11:00 pm news last night. It may not be true but it is being reported. Also, before you question the validity of someone's post, you should check the facts for yourself. just because you have not seen or heard anything about it, does not make it false!! just google(if you know how} Tara Smotherman. I'm sure you will find out everthing that has been reported.

Non story to me. Hurd transferring has nothing to do with his mother allegedly being arrested. Nothing at all.

In typical UT fashion, they have all hands on deck demonizing Hurd. He's a junior, as long as he's producing everything's hunkey-dorey, season goes south and they need somebody to take the heat off Botch. UT created "blame the victim." long ago. Don't forget this is the school that's been charged with creating an atmosphere of sexual assault on women, then deny that and pay $2.4M NOT to prove it.

Hurd transferring has nothing to do with his mother being arrested. The interesting thing is that the event occurred over a month ago and it doesn't get reported until after Hurd leaves the team.

This would have been completely buried if Hurd was not transferring. Sick culture in Knoxville.

Back in the 90's, I worked with a guy who was a giant UT fan. He also had a brother in-law who was a 20+ year veteran of the Knoxville PD. He once said that if he told me half of what his brother in-law told him about the stuff that goes on with the UT program that I would have a stroke. He was dead serious about that too.

This just reminds me of Gillispie not getting a DUI until he was done coaching here.

Knoxville media should be ashamed of itself. I hate Tennessee but like DACats86 said If he wasn't transferring this wouldn't have surfaced.

Little doubt this is the case, the fact that it does shows that UT is trying to manage the situation as best they can.It makes one wonder if there is more damage to be controlled than UT is letting on,it would seem likely that at least a little divide exists on the Hurd situation among the players.UT is lucky once again that they are playing Tennessee Tech this week they have an extra week to get things under control without the risk of a loss to complicate matters

Ok so it wasn't just a coincidence that this drops hours after the news of Hurd transferring came out?

With the Vince Foster stuff coming out maybe Hillary should hire some folks from UT to do her coverups. They're clearly better than what she's got.

My understanding is that tennessee fans are spinning this as Hurd being a cancer that was voted off of the team during the team meeting and not that he used it on announce he was leaving.

True, my point exactly. The fact he's in his third year and was the leading rusher his first two years doesn't factor of course. Slow growing cancer I guess.

reading the story - she should have been charged with Disorderly conduct, alcohol intoxication in a public place, resitsing arrest and assault on a police officer.

No reason for arrest unless she assaulted and THEN resisted.....

as a former police officer - these charges probably will be tossed because of the INITIAL reason to arrest not charged as part of the crime

I don't practice criminal law, but my thinking is that she had a license to use the seat that she was at in Neyland. She received that by purchasing the ticket. Through her conduct, she violated the license agreement and was being removed. She was not being detained nor was she being arrested. She was merely being removed from the stadium. However, once she assaulted the police officer when being escorted off of the premises she committed a crime and they charged her with that and they had probable cause to arrest her. She was further combative and resisted that arrest until being taken to the ground.

That is my thought on it, but if I had to guess they had every intention of throwing those charges out to begin with. That's why they gave her a long reset from just after the Florida game to November 28. She was probably basically told to be good at the games and they would dismiss it after the season. November 28 just so happens to be 2 days after the last Tennessee game. Just my thoughts.
