John Mateer possibly out for our game when OU comes to town

He is having surgery on his throwing hand today and is expected to be out about a month. If out that full time, he would not be ready by our game. Maybe that gives us a fighting chance?

The bigger issue, though, is OU currently has the #9 scoring defense in the nation. Maybe the absence of Matter keeps it close, but if they can score 17 points, they likely win.

It is sad that as a fanbase we have been reduced to the thinking now we have "a fighting chance" due to an injury of our opponent.
Yeah, I know this happens all the time across the board, but you get what I mean.

Yep, get it.

I'm still not very hopeful for the game. Our score last year looks impressive but that's only because their QB was so awful to start the game. OU actually outgained us on offense and we only had 254 yards on the game. Our offense performed extremely poorly. Their D is probably even better this year.

Nobody goes back to say what player didn't play when you are looking at wins and losses. Nobody feels sorry for the wounded. It's a home game against a team that had severe QB problems before getting Mateer. We got a gift and need to capitalize on it.

He might have a career day playing left handed. 🙂

For sure, nobody feels bad for us that Sellers was knocked out against Vandy.

This is our mantra when of our own goes down and we lose.

A very Gamecock thing will happen......Mateer will be back, 100% for his visit to Columbia, SC.
"Texas may be the only SEC game Mateer misses if he does make it back for South Carolina on Oct. 18, as Bruce Feldman reported is Oklahoma’s hope."

Well, he'll most likely be back for our game. Reports are that he's pushing to be back for the Texas game this weekend, so I'm sure he'll be ready for our game. Maybe he pushes to come back for Texas, plays too soon and reinjures the hand. 🤷‍♂️

Come on man. I want to beat them with their best and don’t want to see injuries

I didn't root for him to be injured. He already was. I was just hoping it lasted until our game.

And I don't care about beating them with their best. LSU beat us without Seller last year, and I don't think they lost any sleep over beating us without our best.

I thought it risky for him to play today vs Texas but it appears he finished unscathed other than taking the loss.
