1) OM stomped the MState pregame. For whatever reason, we ignored it.
2) Cups smelled fine tonight.
3) I felt like we could have named the score but as Matt and Bart said on the 5th qtry show "we not only took our foot off the gas, we also tapped the breaks". I had no problem with this...
4) To the moron sitting behind me bitching about Mullen's play calling towards the end of the third qtr and into the fourth... We were up big... Its raining sideways... There wasnt any scenario I could think of where tossing the rock all over the field would have been called for. We basically had a running clock due to our play calling... Smart move by Mullen. So shut the 17 up! God Damn I was tired of hearing that guys voice.
5) I took my sis in law (OM fan) and was pleased that the folks in my section treated her with respect and were very polite. Made me very proud to be a State fan.
6) Unis looked suprisingly bad ***.
7) The hit on BB at the end of the game put a smile on my face.
8) Wilson called a hell of a game tonight... Raise??
9) The one thing the Rebs do have better than us is a band. I was a band *** in HS, so I know a good one when I see one.
10) Good buy Nutt.. Its been real.

Thats all I got.

I saw plenty of rebel fans a none of them were being treated badly except for after the game plan some state students were chanting by the Ole Miss players but

4). I'm with the moron you were sitting by. If you're going to run the ball, fine, but do it creatively or get the back ups some work. We ran the same damn play 30 times in row. To be a championship team you don't lay down after you've scored 30 points..keep shoving the ball down their 17'n throat.
7). Ditto
8). It's ole miss...how hard could it be to call a good game when they're fumbling the ball every other play. Raise? No. Think back to last week, his *** called a horrible game...torbush-esque
9). Who gives a damn.
10). Sad to see him go.

You could tell that after we scored to go up 28-0 that Mullen was just trying to keep the clock moving. Sure, I would have liked to have hung 50 on them but this game was never in any doubt and I am happy with the W. I'm especially happy we kept them out of the endzone. That hit on Brunetti to end the game was vicious.

I'm thankful he ended the game early because of the downpour I had to walk back to my car in and drive home in. 10 times worse than the rain during the game

We ignored it probably because we knew we were going to stomp them during the game.

I agree/disagree about the playcalling. I agree that we should not have thrown the ball. Throwing a bunch of INT's and having some craziness go on was the only way we would have ever lost this game. No need to risk that. But that said, I think we should have been a little more creative with our running play calls. It was like first and second down run up the middle every single time. And even Ole Miss could stop it.

I would have maybe seen some more option or just something different just so that we weren't so predictable.

is not, repeat, NOT better than ours. No way, no how. Don't assume being in a high school band gives you any insight in the matter, because if it did, you wouldn't have made that statement.

Other than that, good post. I especially agree about the playcalling.

they did sound good tonight. The reason I say ours is better is the fact that theirs has been downright terrible for the past several years before this one and ours, although never without complaints, has always been solid.

on the part of our players regarding #1. I was in the stands watching it and thought we would see a riot on the field. Instead our players just turned around and seemed to laugh at them. It was priceless.

#9 - Ole Miss's band was probably better than ours last night. I don't know if they'd just practiced that show more recently or what, but it's the first time since the Sherill Era that's been true. I'm assuming it's just an aberration for now.

if you are going to just run clock and get the game over with, which I was OK with, WHY do you snap the ball with 20 seconds left on the play clock???? Now on our very LAST possession we didn't do this but the 2 possessions before that we didn't run hardly any time off the clock even running up the middle because we were snapping the ball so quickly for the next play. If we had run the clock down on those possessions like we should have before snapping the ball that last minute farce by TSUN trying to score a TD would have never happened.

Our band sucks and it has for years. Same old boring **** year after year; Broadway show tune montages and other **** that only a parent of a fat flag twirler could love. If I hear Moon over Miami again I may throw up. Sorry for the negativity after a win but I have been wanting to say this for years.

They don't really play at home games. Go to an away game and you will actually get to hear all their songs. But honestly we have always had one of the worst bands.

I suppose you want us to have one of those semi-affiliated student-run bands that illegally plays current music, throws out classless taunts, goofs off in the stands instead of contributing to the game atmosphere, and most importantly sounds like complete and utter **** (with a few exceptions) while doing it all. You don't and simply can't appreciate what makes a college band good, so I'm done.

I assume you are saying it has to do with copyright infringement or something.... but wouldn't that also apply to previously recorded music as well? Is it technically illegal for any band (marching or otherwise) to cover a song of another band live or something?

Btw, i don't give a **** about what the band plays at halftime.... I hardly ever even watch what goes on at halftime.

licenses have to be obtained for every copyrighted tune and most pop artists don't give out licenses for at least two or three years after the release of any given song. Lady Gaga is an exception that comes to mind, hence probably why the band plays several of her songs. The semi-affiliated bands can get away with writing out and playing their own arrangements, but a fully sanctioned band such as ours would get slammed; or more specifically, the school would. The rules are different in the case of covers by gig bands but I can't tell you why even though I should know.

you would have seen that all of the songs that they played were stuff that no more than six years old- it was crap like Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Britney Spears, Train, etc.

It was the Chick song show.

Train sucks. I would kill myself if I was in that band.

it was a "2000s Decade" show, and the selection of music was contrived because those were considered the best tunes that there were licenses available for. It was far from the initially desired selection.

Just think of the halftime show we could have for the next Egg Bowl.

And Stanford happens to be one of the exceptions I was referring to in terms of playing quality. But I don't think we could weather the occasional embarrassments caused by the band as well as Stanford does.

Whatever LSU and Bama's band does, we need to do that. When do you ever see the entire stadium involved with what OUR band is doing? (besides Go State). We aren't loud and we aren't involved.

I was at a game a few years ago with a "band expert" if there can be such a thing. He said that our band is technically very good... but extremely boring. The Jackson State band is technically average, but extremely entertaining. We agreed we would rather have entertaining... then we agreed that it doesn't really matter because only one in a hundred people in the stands paid $35 to see the band.

Halftime shows: Last year, Alabama did a 50's show, complete with Aquarius and The Turtles, and LSU did a Bon Jovi show. LSU has cheers that their fans twisted to say stuff in. ?Hell, LSU made a cheer out of the Wicked Witches Guard's chant in Wizard of Oz. I don't know if it get's lamer than that, but they ran with it.<div>
</div><div>the thing is, perception is reality. ?Their fans perceive their bands to be cool and so they are. ?From a musical standpoint, their band's aren't much better than ours, but because their fans don't think their bands are lame, then they are all of a sudden much better than ours. ?Plus, they win.</div><div>

because there's actually some honest reasoning behind it. And I agree on your last point.

The Famous Maroon Band isn't a very good band. It's a passable SEC band, but the band program (marching and otherwise) has been sub-par at State for awhile. Having been in the band in high school and then a few years in college, I can say without a doubt that our band in HS was a lot better than the band at State. I will grant you that they try to do different things (and at State march a lot more varied shows), but musically and technically, joining the band at MSU was a step backward. Which is fine, because the band is passable and does its job (and thankfully I didn't see any mismatched khaki this year). It's just that it's not that good.<div>
</div><div>Note: This isn't comparing MSU's band to JSU, which (as was mentioned earlier) has a much more entertaining show, but isn't what generally would be considered a technically good band.</div>

I have worked in both education in high school and at a drum corps and while the FMB marching program is not near what a program like Michigan or Texas, it is still middle of the pack SEC. Ole Miss since David Wilson took over has slowly but surely gone to **** (as well as the state of Mississippi's music programs... which oddly enough contains a majority of band directors that were in Ole Miss's music program... hmmm).
