Does this smash mouth style of football now become UK football's calling card? I hope it does. I believe it really helps our defense and the physicality bleeds over to all aspects of the game.

I said a couple of weeks ago that this is how you win in the SEC. Screw the gimmick offense and pass on every down while trying to run 90 plays a game. You want to win in this league consistently you need to run the ball and have a solid defense. Use the passing game or RPO just enough to keep defenses guessing.
I am ALL for UK having a physical identity, instead of finesse.

Yes good to hear multiple coaches say how physical we play and how "sore" their team is after paying Kentucky. It should bleed over - and hopefully onto the D, especially the D-backs. (As I think they were referring to our bruising O-line) JMHO

I'd love to see Lamar Thomas even though he is the WR coach, take the Defense into a meeting room and make them watch "The U" 30 for 30...both parts. If that doesn't get a defense jacked up, nothing will!

It is good that we are headed in that direction(if we are) but we are a long way from being there in terms of depth and talent at enough positions.Maybe that is where Stoops wants to go but to get there is surely a lengthy process(at least 2 more years of strong recruiting) We must have success in terms of wins/losses in the meantime to have a chance to be that type of team.

A bowl game this year is one step.(two wins in the next 4 games is a bigger step)We will take at least a step this year,we have a chance to do more the question is,are we ready to do more? The jury is still out on that one but it is a reasonable question to ask.

It looks that way, but don't know how many times I've read on this board that UK will NEVER have the big uglies to play SEC smash mouth ball. :)

I've never really wanted anything else, and it starts to look like I am going to get it. I think we are deep enough to get some more good work done with this style this year, and with JUCOs and rising RS frosh, will be plenty deep enough next year to play our schedule as a physical football team and see even greater success.

I hope it does. I know there are a lot of fans who just want to heave it down field and don't really like or appreciate a power running game. I guess I may be too 'old school' or just 'different' but my favorite football is a nasty defense and a power running game. I'm old enough to remember when NO team in the NFL had thrown 30+ passes and won. Now that is commonplace. Things change. I just think a team that can dominate on the O-Line and RB is going to win a lot of games, demoralize a lot of defenses and be enjoyable to watch for fans like me.

If you want to win games, you let your best players touch the ball the most. Our best overall players are running backs. Boom and Snell are without a doubt our two most talented players on the field. To win in the SEC, you better be able to run the football. With Boom and Snell, running the ball makes the most sense. Our QB is talented enough to just make enough plays to win football games. It might just turn out to be a blessing that we don't run our offense by passing the ball deep. If we were still trying to throw the ball, who knows if we would have found out just how talented Snell is so quickly. Win or lose, lets give these two kids the ball and see what happens. I don't like to look forward to the future while our season is still being played, but just imagine if Boom decides to come back for his last season at Kentucky and Snell becomes even better. We're talking about legit SEC running backs being the focus of our offense. Our defense improves every week and should be even better next season. For a change its not just wishing thinking while talking about Kentucky football in the future.

The weaker the opponent the more you can lean on the run when you have the ability to do so. As you play better competition you have to be a little more balanced. Being run oriented, that is, establishing the run to set up the play action, and to bring extra defenders up in the box is an OCs wet dream. Everyone wants to do it, but not many can. So far the Gran/UK offense has been able to succeed. We get a little stiffer test tomorrow but I think we pass with flying colors (no pun intended).
