This is why I hate the concept of "sure wins" and "sure losses" that fans talk themselves into.

People chalked So Miss up as a "sure win" and declared the season a failure 4 hours into it because now they can't see enough other sure wins to get us to a bowl.

Yes...Stoops lost a game he shouldn't have. It happens all the time to other teams., even 'Bama.

He may lose another one that he shouldn't....but maybe he'll beat one or two teams that he shouldn't. That's football.
Trouble is, latter hasn't happened when former has twice.

Yes, I do remember some jabs at Elam. But the vast majority of posts have been directed at Stoops/Barnhart. And a plethora of posts have been penned this weak, directly attacking the fans. Quit acting like Kentucky's failure to win is due to bad fans somehow damaging the fragile psyche of our players. We shouldn't be attacking our players, esp. on a personal basis. Then again, this administration has no business attacking our fan base with broad generalizations, and a utterly false narrative, in order to cover their rear's.

Blaming bad fans for losses? Fragile psyche?

Talk about creating false narratives. Just present your position and quit lying about mine.

Those are the 2 I mentioned.

Elam has definitley taken some shots - although most were about his technique or lack there of.

Does one poster saying Johnson sucks and others complaining about Elam standing straight up at the snap really qualify for accusations of toxic taunting and player hating?

Elam has taken many shots about his weight, his toughness, his "failures," his attitude and self perception, etc. Many are not football criticisms, but jokes at his expense. On this board alone.

So what?

He's not a child, he plays in the toughest conference in the nation, he's an aspiring pro athlete, and he's not lived up to the hype. Do I make those kinds of jabs? No. Do I care that someone calls him flubber who can't block and eats too many cheeseburgers? No.

So many people miss the point. These are young men, lots of times overly soft, playing a mans game. There are coaches who are more hard up on their players than that. Hell, my middle school coach in Tennessee nicknamed me "polar bear" and made me hit a treadmill until I lost 25 LBS. Every time he'd walk by me he'd tell me to leave some sh*t on the shelves at walmart so the town could eat.

I'm not into name calling and whatnot on social media and message boards because I don't care. But if this is really bothersome to some, wow. His "attitude", his "self perception"? Oh man, call the PC police, shut down the stadium, give him a kiss. That poor baby!

CMS has not admonished "criticism" in fact if anything he is his own worse critic, rather he is pointing to morons that make disparaging comments towards players mostly on twitter but a few that pop up on the boards like you mention.

I'm not trying to sound like I'm over reacting to some of ya'lls post I just want to add clarity to CMS's comments, as to what he said and what he didn't say as the lines seem to get blurred sometimes.

Social media has provided fans of all levels a platform to vent frustration. If the players can't take heat, delete the accounts or delete some followers. If it's too much for them the coach should ban the platforms so his players don't get their feelings hurt. You will NEVER stop fans (especially young ones) reacting negatively when given the option. Never.

What I'd like to hear from these guys is simple. Take every negative comment, criticism, slight, and disparaging comment, print it off, and put it on a giant wall in the complex. Work on proving every one of the comments wrong. Use it as fuel, like most professional athletes do.

You will never be successful in this kind of mans game if you allow distractions as simple as a 16 year old on twitter hurt your feelings. CMS is doing what coaches on the hot seat do. Blame, blame, blame. He doesn't actually believe this nonsense.

This is why coach Cal is so great. If he had a player whining about social media, I'd fear for the players safety.

Ok. Then get off your generalized moral high horse and finger wagging, and explain to us exactly what your position is. Because, I don't understand what it is, other than calling people bad fans, who are needlessly picking on players. Don't get mad at me, for making guesses and generalizations on your position, when you're the one morally condemning a large chunk of this board and shaming us. Pot meet Kettle

Yes, but you can call those out that are using toxic and disparaging remarks towards players for the negativity they are creating, and the impact it has on parents of players like Ms. Griffin, and recruits. In my book they are not "fans" they are clueless, hot tempered, and likely intoxicated morons.

LOL

If Stoops was not talking about you, why are your panties in such a wad about his comments. Most fans do not take this so personally. So, get off your victim horse. Your defensiveness makes you look guilty of his accusation.

Ok. Call them out. And next week the cycle will repeat itself.

Or, the players can focus on football, the coaches can focus on perpetration, and even tempered fans can focus on the state of the program that they pay for.

I like the latter. Ignore the comments or use them as fuel, and focus on becoming a better program.

Can someone please provide all of these "toxic attacks" on the players?

Where are they?

One post said SJ sucked at QB and the poster was admonished.

A post said Elam should go to EKU and free up a schollie and the poster was admonished.

A couple of posters are just not very bright or young, or both, and simply come across immaturely.

But where are all of these personal attacks on players?

Especially Jordan Griffin?

Fans saying the defense is awful after giving up a huge lead in the opener is not attacking a specific player.

Fans stating that the offense is shaky even after a win due to 49 yards of total passing is not attacking a specific player.

Fans stating that CMS is the not the man for the job is not an attack on a player.

Fans stating that even though we have won some games, the competition level was low, and we didnt look great doing it are not attacking a player.

Fans stating that due to the previous performances that we might not make a bowl if we continue this play is not attacking a specific player.

I am, and am not, a just-win kind of fan.

It will be great for the program if we get to 6 wins playing like we did vs Vandy.

But that doesnt mean we dont have reason to question or even criticize when there is plenty of room for improvement.

And until CMS wins a game we were not supposed to, takes us to a bowl, something - anything, then he nor his supporters have much equity to admonish those who criticize him.

This is a good post. And I'll agree I've not seen posts here that crossed the line enough to prompt this sort of self-righteous reaction. But, admittedly, I really don't know what's being said elsewhere on twitter, facebook, or wherever. So basically my view is that this issue should be divided into two different categories:

1) If you are attacking players DIRECTLY, by sending them tweets, emails, phone calls, posts on their facebook page, etc, then you're an ******* and deserve the bashing. There's no reason fans ever need to be communicating directly with the team, especially if it's only to attack and troll them. BUT:

2) If it's analytical criticism on a fan board like this, then I see no problem with blunt criticism. This board is supposed to be FOR THE FANS, it's where we can release our thoughts and engage in honest discussion of our team, including its weaknesses and problems. It's not supposed to be some propaganda tool where we only say the positive stuff. Instead it's where we let it out amongst each other. A place for free talk not only about the good, but also the bad and ugly. And players (and their parents) should not be coming to this board if they don't want to hear that.

And, btw, if anyone thinks our fans are negative, they should've heard Alabama fans during the Shula era before Saban. My lord, those were the most viciously negative fans in the history of sports. Hell, we all sound like pollyanna singing about puppy dogs, lollipops and rainbows compared to pre-Saban Bama fans.

And did all that negative energy hurt Bama football? Hell, NO, instead it ended up getting them the best coach, best recruits, and one of the best runs in the sport's history. Sometimes whining and bitching pay off.

Making fun of anyone is never a good thing and you make a solid point on that. Coming from you this is surprising. Sarcastic and smart aleck remarks are your common theme. You make fun of people on here all the time. Before you start criticizing people for making fun of others, then you should follow your own advice.

Ms Griffin's comments resonate and probably, with other parents, generated Stoops' comments. If you are a player or his family, I think you appreciate what Stoops said. So, even those butt-hurt fans should see his defense of his players as a good thing. I think recruits appreciate a coach who has your back.

Making "fire the coach" posts during after the first few games is Troll Dung. It just is. For every poster who focuses on firing Stoops and getting a new coach, you have contributed to the problem. Thanks.

Shutz, in your typical knee jerk response to any post with which you disagree, you make sweeping generalizations without a scintilla of factual support. First, as expressly stated in my post, spreading rumors or personally attacking players is unacceptable and in, my opinion, is only done by a minority of UK fans, a point you either didn't read or chose to ignore in your zeal to pump sunshine for your brother Stoops. Secondly, your broad unsupported declaration that,"the decades loyal UK fans are not represented by this board even remotely." is likewise typical of how you epically fail to support your positions.

Thirdly, your inept attempt to understand or "know" what is "blurred" in my mind is once again a desperate attempt to feebly post a rebuttal without the citation to facts and as result, you default to making personal attacks which is another inherent weakness in your posts. Finally, your laughable mandate that I refrain from expressing myself so that it doesn't disagree with your own self righteous and myopic view of what constitutes being a "true blue fan" is consistent with your continued failure to make a persuasive argument.

As a footnote, I have been a season ticket holder in football since 1973 and a K fund (formerly Blue/White fund) member for the last 22 years. I have more than sufficient standing to offer comments, criticisms or simply B.S.)

The "facts" were in parenthesis. Pat yourself on the back but I was there before you and to me and your criticism is weak. Actually a parroting of all the others trying to justify an unjustifiable position.

I've said what I feel and that's it.

Yes UK fans are the problem. It has nothing to do with the product on the field. UK fans cause UK sports to be awful. Just look at the basketball program, it has been like 4 years since the last National Championship. Stupid fans!

I believe jmo, that fans have scaled back on the criticism. The criticism was deserved after the first 2 weeks. Has UK turned the corner or just been playing awful competition? Wait and see is all we can do. If Stoops doesn't win 6 this season, he will be criticized, and news alert, that is not unique to UK. Reasonable fans are not asking for 10-2 and the SEC East, altho Pat Towles did kind of refer to it a couple years back. Just improve get better, be mediocre and UK will build you a statue. Be awful and the fanbase will complain and criticize, that's the nature of the beast
It shouldn't have been 4 years since the last NC, only 2. But even the best of Coaches have brain cramps and lose games they should not !

I tell you what...

Both Meetch and Stoops ought to send Dabo and the Clems a fruitcake for Christmas. If Stoops thinks the natives were restless after the USM/NMS/UF debacles, imagine what the heat would be when UK would be watching (at home) the Cards accepting their playoff spot...right after destroying us?!?

2 things:

1) don't blast players
2) crush ****** coaching & decision making

Any fan that texts or tweets a player or a player's parents is an idiot.

We've got fans texting players?

As far as tweeting, if you're a high level D1 athlete or pro and have a Twitter account, I'd assume you understand having a platform for anyone on earth to contact you is going to make for some interesting and provocative interaction.

If I were a delusional 15 year old, (which most are), the first thing I'd do is create accounts posing as a fan of a rival to create chaos. You don't even know where this crap is coming from.

Social media has made people so damn weak it's stupid.

Well, you lumped the pumpers into your post as if they are equally as bad as the doom and gloomers.

Then please reread. I said the only ones that could hurt a program are the doomsday crowd. The only negative to the pumpers is that they annoy the doomsday crowd and makes it so we have to hear them more.

We are 1 game off where everyone thought we'd be at this point. 4-2 vs 3-3. Are fans really that mad over where we "could be" - 4-2" vs where we are? If we were 0-6 or 1-5, then I'd understand.

The team is actually showing improvement as opposed to regressing like we have seen the last 2 years. We have a great shot to win 2 of 3 against MissSt, Mizzou, and UGA - and the Austin Peay for a Bowl berth.

Our wins don't get points for being pretty, but who cares??

The problem with your comment is that "one game off" is huge on a UK football schedule. We only play 12 games and we're in the SEC. If UK wants to be successful, then we can NEVER lose to a team like Southern Miss (especially after leading 35-10). The only way that this season is successful is if we win at least 6 games and there is now no margin of error.

Well, I'm pretty sure that there is a game out there in our last 6 that we will win that we didn't think we would at beginning of the year (UGA?). We are getting to 6.

If it is not on here then people shouldnt accuse other posters of doing it.

If the issues are on other boards or twitter take your righteousness there and chastise away.

I have not seen one poster who supports slandering or taunting a player as an individual.

Rumors happen to high profile people, if they are not true then that is a sad act to pull. Some "fans" are classless, especially on the call in shows.

But at $4M a year and a $12M buyout I can take whatever rumor you want. Lord knows I have taken them from UKAA and they did hurt people's lives.

I'm all for the guy getting to a bowl this year and staying on. But if all 6 wins look like the Vandy game there will be issues to discuss and that's ok.

I can tell you this, there are a couple posters HERE who were all about the rumor and were damn near giddy at the thought of getting rid of Stoops and avoiding the buyout. Those couple posters haven't been posting much.
As for the reset of your post, like I said in my previous post. If you (not you personally) aren't guilty, then don't take what is said to heart.

Some fans and quite a few here want to call the shots, but they don't want any responsibility when it comes to what they post on message boards or twitter or facebook. It shouldn't be a shock that what you type one minute can be seen by hundreds of people seconds later, and that includes recruits and their families. It's really not rocket science.

Take two programs in the same situation, one program has fans constantly complaining about everything, even after wins, and the other that doesn't, but is supportive, and calls coaches on play calling and situational issues...where you want your kid playing? The ****-storm or the stable program?

I get that people are angry and want better, we all do. It's not a matter of someone wanting anything other than that, it's about how people go about voicing their displeasure. There is a right way and a wrong way. Just because social media is available doesn't mean anyone's opinion (including mine) has any more value than it did before.

I hope you are correct. But can you name one half-way big upset that we have won in the last 4 years?

I agree we can get to 6. MSU, Missou and AP are not what I would call upsets that we didnt think we could win.

CMS needs to win a couple of these types of "win that we didn't think we would" games vs a down UGA or someone, and not necessarily this year but sometime, we missed with a down UF and Auburn.

I am pretty confident that Stoops can get UK in a position to where we go to bowl games yr in/out. What I don't know is if he can get us beyond this threshold. That is yet to be determined. Is that this yr? Not sure....it's certainly a tough road from here out.

My hope and prayer is that we get there this yr.....the players gain confidence in the staff......the recruits gain confidence in the staff.....Stoops makes changes to the staff....Stoops continues to learn and grow as a coach....and thus we continue to grow and mature as a program.

If you are a UKfan you want Stoops to succeed. He's the only coach thus far who has brought recruiting and funding for facilities. And the likelihood of Stoops staying for a longer period over someone like Fleck who is very likely to stay 3 yrs and bolt. It just all depends on whether or not Stoops can improve as a coach......and that's a big if. We just have to sit back hope and pray.

Of course there were fans that wanted it to be true.

But not to hurt CMS or his family, many saw this as a way to circumvent the terrible buyout that our bad AD put in place.

Many saw the buyout as the only item keeping CMS here had he continued to lose.

Again, my post was in reference to our message board and those on here chastising our posters for "toxic remarks" at our players.

Simply wasnt occurring.

Just because people criticize the play and/or the coaching that is not toxic or player hating.

Just because people wanted the rumor to be true so CMS could be replaced was not toxic either. Im sure most wished that our HC had a sensible buyout like all other schools not named ND, Bama, etc, instead of a nasty rumor.

But no, our AD does an NFL type deal like CMS is freaking Lombardi.

And with all due respect, you obviously do not visit other message boards if you think other program's boards are fully in support and positive of their team. Especially those in our position.

The only message boards that do not critique and fuss about their team are the ones that dont have a fanbase that cares. You probably have to visit a CUSA volleyball board to see this as an example - it wont be an SEC football team.

I'm not sure why people think that those that want a new coach do not support the program?

Do you really think this many people waste their time complaining abut something they do not care about?

Do you really think these folks would be members for years and years, watch every game and have so much knowledge of each team every season if they didnt care?

An argument could be made that those who supported BCG and Joker in the last year really didnt care about the program more than the complainers...

Great post.

I think next year CMS can get us to 6-6 and a bowl.

I also think new staff can do the same thing.

Which is more positive? Has more momentum?

5th year coach or brand new coach?

If CMS gets us to a bowl this year he deserves next year, but I too am afraid he has a ceiling.

Yep. The statements Stoops has made--essentially blaming UK fans for making it harder for him to do his job--is something I'm confident Calipari never would've done in the same situation.

As you said, Cal understands the nature of the beast, he knows dealing with negative fan toxicity is part of the deal when things aren't going well, and something that comes with those multi-million dollar salaries we give our coaches. So you deal with it instead of using it as an excuse. And Cal's also smart enough to know his huge paychecks largely source from the support of our fan base--generally not the best idea to be biting the hand that feeds you.

Just because people criticize the play and/or the coaching that is not toxic or player hating.

An argument could be made that those who supported BCG and Joker in the last year really didnt care about the program more than the complainers...

This X 1000. Go over to the Texas board and see if you think they are toxic. I remember Bama fans throwing a brick through Bill Curry's window, and referringto Mike Dubose, as "Coach Doober" and "The Flop from Opp" and he was an alum, played for one of Bryant's NC. What about Cardinal fans and their constant reference to "Coach Krap"? Did that "help" the program, seems like it may have done so, since they hired two big winners since then.

The players feel like they are being bashed by an overly negative fanbase. Some nuts have called out players, questioned why injured players aren't playing etc. Stoops backed his players while saying criticism to the coaching staff is fair game.

He has also dealt with rumors started by fans that took off like crazy that could ruin lives.

Quit whining.
