Oh, if you are a QB, Petrino is a prick to play for; not much doubt there. He will also make you as good as you can be. Player has to choose.
Totally agree. That is why I prefaced the statement with "rare".
Yeah, Petrino IS a hard guy to work for. He is a football 24/7 guy and expects his staff to be the same. I had heard some stories that Thomas just wasn't that committed and it caused some "problems". It stands to reason that as GA Petrino became increasing engaged with "coaching" WRs, the WR coach would be accordingly pissed. Like I said, UK is happy and UofL ain't crying so it was probably as close to a win-win as you can realistically get.
I gotta say, I don't know what Petrino the Younger brings to the staff. However, he is coaching QBs, not WRs, so that makes him a little bit more "useful". He played QB, understands the position and if he is anything like his dad and grand dad he understands that position.
Well, I had not heard about players being "upset" he was leaving. I can understand him being popular with the players. At fan functions, he and former DB coach Terrel Buckley were a hoot, cracking on each other and WRs vs. DB in general. To be truthful, I have no real idea of how good a coach he was/is. He was certainly a terrific player but his coaching career prior to Uofl was 3 years at Hampton and 2 years at WKU. My "source" was from inside the locker room. I will say no more.
Nobody is "in denial" about anything. It is what it is.
