holy cow is Trump in their heads.... Again the entire thing revolves around him. It's like a celebrity roast

I have to wonder if this is the end of Rubio and Cruz. When the candidates get to the point where all they do is attack Trump it means things aren't going well

It upsets me that the 2 folks in that debate who could stay above the fray and stay focused on issues are getting no traction. The only thing missing from the Trump/Rubio/Cruz exchanges was "nanny nanny boo boo". I think this was a miscalculation by Rubio, and maybe Cruz. I think they did no better than tie Trump in those exchanges, and they both took some body blows. The other problem is that they may have made Trump a more attractive candidate to some of the anti-establishment base.

I'm coming to realize that this election, at least for the GOP, isn't about the candidates, but rather about the voters. Good candidates with successful political backgounds, like Kasich, are getting swamped by a guy with zero political background and zero class. I'm fairly confident that this ship will be righted once we get to the general election.

Unfortunately for the Democrats, they let Hillary chase anyone else with a shot at winning a general election out of the room 3 or 4 years ago. Trump v Hillary debates are going to be unwatchable. Fitting for a choice that's unpalatable.

You also said it would be Bush vs. Clinton, it's a lock. Unfortunately, the Trump crowd isn't going away.

Isn't that the truth. GOP voters have lost their minds. The reasonable candidates are relegated to the sidelines. The nuts-and I include Rubio in that with his "no exceptions" abortion position-are in control. They are want to burn everything down...govt is the enemy. meanwhile, a guy like Kasich, who has reasonable, rational, functional positions and has virtually no baggage of lawsuits, bankruptcies, multiple marriages, shady real estate deals, etc is getting very limited support. It's as if the craziest, loudest guy wins. this is what happens when a group of religious nuts control a political party.

No doubt. I gave the GOP way too much credit and now the WWE crowd has taken the place over. If they want Trump, so be it.

Yes, because religious nuts are absolutely going to vote for the guy with "baggage of lawsuits, bankruptcies, multiple marriages, shady real estate deals, etc".

You make no sense.

Hillary is an established politician, former Senator, and Sec State. Trump is a reality TV star.

She ran a private email server out of her bathroom because she's paranoid, making the situation all so much the better. Yes, she's established all right.

This is definitely a down year for the dems as far as quality of candidates, but the dem voters have remained level headed throughout. Admittedly, with the deficit doubling over Obama's term and other fiscal issues looming, I think this is a difficult time for a dem to run for POTUS.

What's funny is the Koch brothers and their ilk have no power in this election whatsoever. This election is going against their master plan.

Your statement is accurate. Once Trump gets the nomination, the religious nuts will vote for Trump.

Are the delegates bound to a candidate beyond the first ballot at the convention? If not, the goal of the Republican "establishment" might be to drag this out to a brokered convention to put in "their" candidate. Might that be why, all of a sudden, and out of the blue, Mitt Romney has become involved front-and-center?

No it isn't like the Dem side. One you win them via primaries they belong to the candidate

Not true if it becomes a brokered convention. The last one of those selected Dewey to run against Truman. The Democrats added super delegates at some point, and I think that was mostly their way of trying to avoid brokered conventions plus give the party the final say in the nominee.

Doing so would trigger a 3rd party run and would destroy what's left of the GOP establishment

At this pont, I think that the general election is going to be a mess. Whether that's 3rd party candidates messing things up for the established parties or just a really crappy set of choices, I can't say.

It's precisely because they stay above the fray and stay focused on issues. If a candidate is attacked they can defend themselves, so you get the childish nonsense between Trump and Cruz and Rubio.
Trump: "Cruz did ___"
so Cruz gets to respond
Cruz: "No I didn't, but Trump did ____"
so Trump gets to respond

and on and on it goes until it gets reduced down to calling each other a liar and a baby and a super duper poopy head.

Meanwhile the adults in the room must stand quietly and wait.

It's a shame.

I understand the counter argument that the choices on the Dem side aren't that great either ... but somehow the GOP started with 18 candidates and THESE are the one's at the top? Out of all of those? That's where the shame should lie on the GOP side. On the Dem side it is simply that they didn't start out with much of a choice.

That faction needs to step back and look at the fruit salad of their lives.
The far right is made up of Freedom Coalition types who have decided to stonewall everything that is left of them. They have made vows to vote against anything proposed by anyone with a 'D' next to their name. The moderate right is comprised of politicians who are will to work with both parties to get things done. There seems to be no middleground here and the two groups are growing apart--Boehner's exit as majority leader is good evidence of this. Trump is simply the end product of the mayhem. He's not conservative, in fact he's all over the place. The whole thing is rather comical.

'Will someone attack me please?!'
The good Dr stole the entire debate season with that line. Damn, he is good. He is the one you would like to have a beer or 10 with. May have to sit and stare for a few seconds, but he has some good stuff when you can receive it.
