For all the historians, what's the lowest seed to ever make it to a state championship, regional, etc.
North Edgecombe was the 16 seed in 1998. They beat the #1 Seed Camden County in the East (6-0) took over home field advantage. NE got healthy towards the end of the season, had to win the last 2 regular season games to get into playoffs. They went to lose to Starmount 22-20 in the State Championship game that year.

North Edgecombe. 16th and final seed, defeated #1 on the road. Back then, if a 16 beat a 1, the 16 stole home field advantage the rest of the way. So the 16th seeded NE had all these better seeded teams come to them, and defeated each one all the way to the 1A championship, where they eventually lost.

Guess I should have read this before I typed virtually the same exact thing lol.

How does Hayesville match up against EW? Well assuming they beat HT.
Being that Hayesville is from the rugged and battle tested Smoky Mountain Conference they will fair pretty well. I’m sure they will be disciplined and nothing EW will do will surprise them. EW im sure will not overlook them.. but these bye weeks provide time for athletes to heal but also give teams that have good rhythm a chance to get a lil off beat and possibly lackadaisical when comes to resuming game time again.

If EW is a true contender, they will have no problem beating Hayesville. I believe they are.

Like Otis said this game should be a running clock game if East Wilkes is a true contender and I think they are and I believe it will be.

That is not what happened at all. He didn't try to block anyone else. Not even a glance at another player. Just straight into the knee of #50. It wasn't an accident or some unfortunate mishap. About the ugliest thing I've ever seen at the high school level.
Over a week later and we are still on this? I guess everyone can assume no Swain player in history has ever committed a chop block on an opponent? I hate that it happened to the kid but let’s not act like Murphy is this dirty football program. This kind of stuff (and much worse) happens in football across all levels. Nobody is perfect.

I watched some Bishop McGuiness last night after a poster said yesterday they had the best offense in the state.

While I don’t think they are the best in the state I must say I was a little shocked. I think they will give Mitchell some problems.

I wouldn't think they are states best, but they can move the ball quickly down field with that QB, #5 and several tall fast recieivers. When protection breaks down, they keep moving and that is what I think makes them hard to contain. It will be a good ball game of a pound and ground team versus air raid.

It's easy for an offense to look good when you're playing a schedule full of teams that couldn't beat some schools jv squads.

Not knowing anything about either team, I would go with all Deana’s picks except for BM & Mitchell. Bishop McGuinness has a good looking record, but Mitchell looks more battle tested.

The CSD-Swain was the toughest for me to pick. I know Bryson City is a tough place to play. How healthy is Swain? I’ve been trying to keep up with how healthy teams are. One major player can change a team’s makeup in a heartbeat at the 1A/2A level.

I went with Mitchell because they have played better competition and proven they are a tough bunch to deal with over the years.

If Mitchell had played their schedule they would be 10-0 or 9-1.

Did you guys watch CSD play Corvian.. both of those teams are very legit regardless of schedule.
While I think both are legit, they aren't unbeatable.Especially corvian. Like I previously mentioned a few weeks back, Chris Hughes said the 2a west was the corvian invitational. I don't believe corvian is that much better than everyone else if they even are. Let's not forget, corvian has a freshman QB that's asking a LOT to go on the road in the playoffs and win in some of these tough environments.

Yeah what Chris Hughes said is ridiculous. Murphy would overwhelm Corvian in a Black Friday game at The Hill. Let the games begin!

We're still on it because people like you keep bringing it up. I have no idea if Murphy is a dirty program. None. I do know what I saw, and that was as cheap of a play as you'll ever see. Stuff like that happens in football. (I know because I played a lot of football back in the day) I wasn't trying to call out anyone in my initial post, I just wanted to find out if the kid was ok or not because it looked really bad for him. I still haven't gotten an answer to that question. Instead, I've gotten a bunch of folks trying to make excuses for the Murphy kid.

If Swain doesn't have a good secondary they will have a hard time against CSD based on what I have watched on video. The CSD quarterback looked agile with the ability to throw on the run and under pressure. Speedy receivers too.

One of the teams south davidson beat. Won over a 7-3 West Wilkes team in the first round of the 3a playoff. 🤷
SD has 3-4 assistants that could be a HC at other schools and added over 125+ years of coaching experience to the lineup. Add in a strong weight program, spring ball and summer and you have a new thought process. A new way of thinking. A new way of practicing hard so you can play hard. As for the schedule, you get what you get and I would challenge any of the posters on here to explain to me how good their team would have done the last 4-8 years in a conference with Salisbury, N Rowan, Tville, Lexington and other much bigger schools to go against as SD has 350 kids. The realignment did help and the Cats are working hard, playing hard and setting records. Now to see how far the can make it in the playoffs. Goal is to be 1-0 every week. Go Cats!
