Dan Mullen, asked about name coming up for jobs and commitment to MSU on Nashville radio: "I view this as a premier job in the country."

future, averaging 7 or 8 wins a year will get him extensions and maybe more money, and he probably knows that, and also doubtful that anyone is interfering with whatever he wants to do, he's being given practically everything that he's asked for. If he bolts, he bolts, but I'm not going to worry about it, and he'll think good and damn hard before he does.

Like it was just said (for the majority of us) State fans'll be decently happy as long as we win 7-8 games a year & beat TSUN. While the bear nation's fans think they should be in Atlanta (which they've never been to) every year. I told a buddy of mine the other day. Mullen is also making this job a BETTER job. New facilities, upping the pay for assistants, awesome attendance & having a pretty good AD & Prez that show passion.

the SEC is about to win its 6 straight BCS title- 6 in a damn row...it's the most popular, makes the most money, has the most exposure....and we are a part of that. Just being in the SEC makes our school and job better than most of it's lower half counterparts from other conferences. Especially if we continue to make bowl after bowl the next few years.<div>
</div><div>While we may struggle with the LSU's and Bama's- we are surpassing the Purdue's, Virginia's, and Arizona's in stature- provided that we keep winning. We really have huge growth potential the next 10 years

The only thing I really see holding the program down right now is the stadium. Our facilities will be top notch with regard to everything minus the football stadium and hopefully that's a matter being resolved now. I think not having at least a horseshoed facility hurts us with recruiting - way more-so than any sort of stigma Starkville has.

having both end zones open and certainly may have some effect when dealing with certain recruits. I personally don't even like end zone seats but agree that we need at least the north end closed in to at least give the "appearance" of a big time stadium even though we aren't increasing total capacity that much.

It's not a number thing to me, but just an atmosphere/visual plus that we severely lack in. We'll never be able to compete with the upper echelon of the SEC in terms of seating capacity - I'm fine with that. As long as we can create a top-notch atmosphere where most of the crowd noise is kept within the stadium, I think we'll be fine...

Budget is important too, but I think budget is less important than recruiting base in terms of program potential.

Your budget and your ability to raise money drives facilities and coaching pay, both which help with recruiting, but ultimately you're still limited by your recruiting base. Of course, the programs with the better recruiting bases are the ones that have the larger populations to draw from normally, and the programs with the larger population base to draw from usually are the larger schools with the larger alumni base and walk on fanbase, which means they're also the ones with the larger budgets.

That's why LSU is such a great program. The stadium, facilities, and salary all come as part of the support they have, but the recruiting base is much more important to their success than their support.

Louisiana has almost double the NFL talent pool as Mississippi, and they don't have to split that talent with another in-state program. When you do the numbers, that makes them pretty much 4 times as likely to land an NFL draft pick with every player they sign in comparison to Ole Miss or MSU.

That's a HUGE advantage. To overcome that, you have to have a coach that can not only out-evaluate and out-recruit the schools with the better talent bases, but you have to have one that can out-scheme them too. The problem there is that if you land one of those coaches that can do all of that, he's more than likely going to have a shot to get that easier job with more pay.

You can maximize your potential by making shrewd hires and running your athletic department in the best possible fashion, but ultimately recruiting base is the biggest limiting factor in my opinion, for any program.

of their seats. A 62,000 or 65,000 Davis Wade would be a very attractive setting with a lot of amenities....not as large as most SEC stadiums but possibly larger than most on a nationwide basis.

and again now.

I think Mullen wants to build an Empire. He wants to be THE MAN that is responsible for building a national power. He and his family love Vegas, he's a well paid head coach in the SEC. I don't think he's going anywhere any time soon.

But if you mean Top 10 to 15 team 5 out of every 6 years, that will not be doable at either MSU, Mississippi, Arkansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri or Vanderbilt.<div>
</div><div>Florida, Georgia, LSU, Bama, Auburn and Texas A&M have not even done that.</div>

to see where Mullen's salary ranks when adjusted for cost of living (but not so curious that I want to be the one to do it). He's in the top-20 even without this, but the cost of living in Starkville is pretty low, and I'd guess adjusting salaries for cost of living would push him even higher on the list.
