5* MD commit Zion Elee. Locksley said we obviously paid him to visit.

Among other things, I didn’t think coaches comment publicly on recruits. Locksley mentioned by name.

"Why would I be mad for Zion to make five to ten grand to go down to South Carolina and he's been one of those guys that's been really loyal to this area, loyal to me and the program that we've created. We have constant dialogue, so some of these schools have the ability to where they take kids to come take visits, and they hide it behind the NIL stuff."

I thought this was pretty much SOP for higher rated recruits now. Is it supposed to be a shock?

That's what I thought. Beamer is constantly asking Steve Fink during his signing day pressers if he can or can't mention a recruit's name.

If it’s not then the only issue is they are doing something shady with no guaranteed benefit. Before paying players was above board that was something that was a regular gripe about the winners “Alabama cheats, they pay the players!” Who doesn’t? Don’t be mad because they cheat, they just cheated better than you.

If this is a standard procedure maybe the MD feels threatened? Why get into if it’s normal? In that case SC ain’t the only one paying him to visit.

Trying to recall, but I don't think I've ever heard a coach mention a recruit by name during the recruiting process. I am fairly certain it's against the rules until a LOI is signed. Hopefully Beamer files complaint with the NCAA.

Had it been the other way around...we'd impose our own penalties followed by NCAA penalties next summer

Funny thing is, there's nothing to investigate. He made the comments publicly. They could hand down a penalty tomorrow. If anything, we might hear something by late next year.

It's a crystal clear rule violation. Says the kid's name and talks about his recruitment.

He also sharply criticized the character of the recruit, saying he only came here for a visit b/c we paid him too. I hope Shane hits that angle hard in the recruitment.
