The Men's team played 5 tournaments in the Fall. They will play 6 in the Spring. If the NCAA Regionals were played today their Ranking would put them on the bubble. Last year the 3 lowest ranked teams to make the 81 team field were #61 New Mexico St. #64 North Carolina St, and #65 Furman. 28 teams make the field by winning their conference championship.

There are currently 311 teams with enough qualifying rounds. Virginia is the #1 Ranked team

BIG10 Rankings

There's no preseason ranking.

The Men finished '24-25 #126. The initial '25-'26 ranking was #85.

The Women finished '24-25 # #102. The initial '25-'26 ranking was #76.

The Women were hurt when 1 player withdrew in the 1st Round in Canada due to illness. Once the tourney starts you van't replace a player. That meant they had to play with 4 and finished 11th out of 12.

The Men have made a pretty big jump but what could have been. IF, repeat IF, the 3rd Steelwood round had been played and RU held on to 2nd, they'd be ranked in the low-mid 50's They lost 1/3 of the points this particular 3 Round event would have earned them. There was a tie for 4th. If it had gone 3 Rounds, those teams would have received more points than RU ended up with finishing 2nd in the 2 Round event, 41.0 vs 34.6.

I should add IF they stayed solo 2nd, continued shooting below Par, and stayed close to the winner.

Lots of IF's lol

I mean....seems like this is a lot better than pre-B1G (and better than we've done pre/post Gotterup)....right?

Better? If they finish in the top half of the B1G, as far as I know yes, but I didn't start following until reading about a local kid (Gotterup) making a name at RU. The '22-'23 team was pretty decent but faded at the end iirc.

Unlike the Women, the Men's team doesn't post a record book. I can tell you that the team hasn't been much of a factor in the B1G. It doesn't appear the team made the NCAA's as a team but Gotterup did as an individual. I did find that Rutgers won the Atlantic10 3 times in the span of 4 years, 30 years ago.

So far the 3 top ranked players are Frosh Politano (#97 out of over 2,000 D1 golfers) and 2, 1 year transfers, from Texas and Ga Southern. The other 2 are Sophs who have played every event since arriving at RU so kuddos to them and Coach.

I think last season (#126) was an outlier for the men being they were replacing 3 players who had 11 years of competing for RU between them.

The women have won 3 events since the Spring of '24 but 2 were the Rutgers Invitational against a pretty weak field, resulting in low ranking points. They received almost as many points finishing 4th out at Ohio State as they did winning at RU a week earlier.

They have a couple pretty consistent players in Lu and Truong but for the tourneys you need at least 3 and possibly 4 of 5 to have a decent weekend. 2 weeks ago their Frosh, Ryu, entered as an individual, finished 3rd out of I believe 93 at a tourney hosted by Lehigh at Trump Bedminster. Hopefully she can carry that kind of play over to the Spring. There are a couple experienced Juniors but 1 hasn't played at all so far.

I'll have to check their record book to see if they ever made the dance.

See what happens if you get me talking Nuts. Drone on and on.

@AreYouNUTS

Looked up some info. Rutgers best finish in the B1G championship was 6th in 2019 in what was a very tight 3rd-6th where 4 strokes separated the 4 teams. Both Gotterup and Saylor Dance finished Top 10 individually. Next best was a tie for 7th in 2024.

In 2023-2024 Rutgers was ranked #91 and 8th in the B1G. They are #64 and 8th right now so while their ranking is much better the addition of the west coast schools has made the B1G stronger. I choose to look at it as they're ranked ahead of 10 teams whereas prior to last year it would have been 6.:)

In the Fall, the team has taken 3 B1G Men's Golfer of the week which is pretty impressive considering they only played 5 team and 1 Individual event.

The B1G Women has been a good conference even prior to the addition. In 2023-24 the Women were ranked 84th after winning the Golfweek NIT and 12th out of 14 B1G teams. Their best B1G Championship finish is 10th in 2024. As I posted, they're currently #82 which is 14th in the B1G.

The current team has 1 individual win. This past Spring, Emily James took the individual title at the Rutgers Inv. Also Ellie Ryu took home the B1G Freshman of the week 2 weeks ago.
