Never attended a day of school there but the town their from is an old south type of town. They were complimentary of State but told me that they grew up hard core OM fans as was most of the town. They pretty much said that since the removal of Col. Reb and the "traditions" of the school, that they don't really care that much about them any more. The school doesn't stand for the old south anymore, etc...
I found the whole conversation facinating and came to the realization that OM probably was the more popular school in the State because of the rebel flag, mascot and plantation image. More of your lower class whites would identify with that I think than with our school. Their elimination of symbols and our domination in athletic events and academic superiority has really catuapulted MSU to flagship status and there really is no going back.
