Miami roster depletion for bowl

Thanks for posting this. At this point, the only impact player we think isn't playing for RU is Melton, although everyone is assuming that's the case. I haven't heard definitively that he isn't playing.

Monangai could change his mind but he said he's playing. And of course Powell is injured. Otherwise, I think we are pretty much in tact. So it seems we have a decent shot here. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do with all the bumps and bruises from the season healed up.

I'm glad most of our star players aren't doing the same thing.

There's no reason for anyone who isn't

(1) transferring, or
(2) entering the draft - and even this is not a guaranteed "opt out" for many

to sit out a bowl game. We aren't faced with many key contributors in either category this year. I'm hoping the few weeks off since Maryland will help our banged up guys to be closer to 100%. Go get that win!

I love bowl season! It's not irrelevant to me.

Bowl season all but dead already. With the playoffs expanding they are going to become even more irrelevant.
..
TV needs the bowls, they will stay..regarding relevancy ratings are still high, attendence has reached the bottom and impacted by economy and travel costs. ...First round of playoff games at colleges next year will have huge ratings...May even see the the FCS playoffs receive more visibility as the TV football calendar is being stretched out in December.....

Regarding NIL, i've concluded you can't complain forever as it is here to stay like self checkout at the store.

Also, to those that are cheering the Hoops #3 recruiting class, don't think significant NIL for basketball was involved, so its strange that it hurts football (and vent about kids making money) and cheer when its beneficial for hoops...it also is why Cam left this year and he is clearly missed...

I get that fans don't want to contribute and donate in other methods, but college player movement and monetization of abilities/NIL at the college level has been forced by the student/athletes and most likely will be curtailed with increased disclosure over the next 3-5 years,

You have to wonder if eventually NIL and Transfer rules will ruin bowl season. It’s already happening to some extent.
NIL will ruin the character of many of these kids. They'll be lucky to be decent human beings by their late 20s

I like the roster changes! As a coach you get a few weeks to prep new kids, see who has what. To me it is an exhibition game essentially.

Our defense needs to be opportunistic. They are -3 on the year with their starters. With a key RB , a starting Guard, and starting QB gone we need to really take advantage of that.

I don’t remember that. The NY6 bowls yes. I don’t recall anyone that has sat out of a playoff game without an actual injury.

There seem to be some close cases like this where there was a fine line with too injured for a bowl but OK for the combine...but outright perhaps not

A lot of 2-deep out; QB2 as well.

He was injured all year off and on. He played in the Rose Bowl in the year prior which was a great game OSU had with Utah.

There hasn’t been one yet that sat out of the playoffs. Could there be in the future who knows but I think it’s way less likely when there is an actual championship opportunity on the line vs an exhibition game.

With all the players opting out, these Bowl games are quickly becoming a "pre-season game" except it's played at the end of a season instead of before one.
Not just players but coaches as well.

It’s Pro Bowl-ish….I want to have the same feel as I do for the regular season but I don’t feel it. I’ll watch ours and here and there for the rest. You never know which one could turn into a fun game like the OSU Utah one I mentioned above. I don’t watch NFL really so football is pretty much done for me.

DBs probably the most likely. I think Melton really has a shot but it really depends who he winds up with.
I think you are right about Melton, depends on where he goes more than his own ability. I don't see anyone else on this current roster going into the draft this year who should be long term contributors. Hope I'm wrong but I don't see it

Great site. Surprised no early NFL draft entries for Miami

No, we know there's a major issue whether we win or lose. We play without a QB.
